My 2 cents is astro should have common sense that when viewers CRT breaks down, their next TV will be widescreen. CRT users will keep getting lesser and lesser. They should cater to majority n plan ahead.
Mio TV only has HD boxes. For CRT subscribers, the HD box will auto convert native SD 16:9 or HD 16:9 to letterbox for the dinosaur CRT TV. Just sharing.
Correct! Astro should transmit SD 16:9 in the original format instead of letterboxing it to 4:3.Mio TV only has HD boxes. For CRT subscribers, the HD box will auto convert native SD 16:9 or HD 16:9 to letterbox for the dinosaur CRT TV. Just sharing.
The current firmware supports 16:9 -> 4:3 conversion options when your tv type is set to 4:3
similar to the 4:3 -> 16:9 conversion options.
If I remember correctly, ther are
1) letterbox
2) fit to screen (image will be stretched)
3) expand (cut off the 2 sides)
Not sure if it is available on the previous firmware.
Discovered it while playing around after getting the firmware update.
Guess astro is squeezing as much out of their limited bandwidth as possible by reducing the quality and letterboxing 16:9 sources (picture only covers 75% of the screen, the rest is the black bars)
