Ok, hi guys, before I do anything stupid and start burning Astro's CS with their 'fixed scripts', I'd like to know if anyone has/have/had encountered this issue.

My issue : Copy Protection Failed, henceforth known as CPF
Connection Pathway : Astro B.Yond > AVR* > TV**, all via HDMI

So technically, if I watch anything HD related content, I'll get the CPF screen after 10 seconds, but I still have audio in the background.
If I direct conntect the Astro STB to the TV, everything works fine. So, what sort of fault do I have with my system?
The reason why I route it to my AVR* is that I can fully utilize the 5.1 surround sound from the HBOHD or Fox Premium channels, or lets say if there's football or F1 live, I could view it from my Home Projector (From AVR to the Home Projector). Now I'm going to have this issue stuck in my head with this damn CPF thingy.... Any ideas how to solve it?

1. Press Home for Menu. Select Settings and press OK
2. Select System Versions and press OK
3. If your Astro B.yond is not updated with the latest Software Version, please proceed to reboot the box followed by turning off your TV. It will go to auto update in 1 minute.
4. Ensure that TV is using only 1 HDMI cable (No AV or component cable are connecting together) and tune to correct HDMI channel.
*Example: HDMI1*
5. Please re-secure the HDMI connection between Astro B.yond box & TV HDMI port by plugging out & plugging in connection at both ends.
6. If problem still persist please swap using another HDMI port on TV, tune the TV channel.
*Example: HDMI2*
7. If you have own HDMI cable, please try to swap Astro HDMI cable with own HDMI cable. If “Copy Protection Failed” message disappear, try again with Astro HDMI cable.
8. If customer is using HD Ready TV, please change the HD setting to 720P (Home > Settings > Installation Settings > HD Settings)
9. Please switch off the TV and Decoder together and Turn it on again in few seconds for hand shaking to take place.
From ass FB hope it helps tongue.gif Maybe a handshake issue.

Thanks for your help, but it take it that you didn't read my post clearly....

why not use HDMI ARC?
your amplifier dont have HDCP stripper(99% sure)
or it is broken.
*
For some reason, I dunno how does my ARC functions, I can never manage to get it to work, i'll ask the Onkyo forum or something.. but for now I use my AVR so i can have the option to watch it on my projector too..

Anyway, what do you mean by HDCP stripper? Or how do i check? Thanks smile.gif

first let me explain what HDCP is lah.
HDCP is something that locks HD content.
simple enough
and because there is nothing to unlock it (HDCP Stripper)
u will see Copy Protection failed
When you plug into your tv it will show hd content because your tv have built in HDCP stripper.
you may ask why your tv cannot strip it when connected to avr , because your amp just output its raw signal without the hdcp "code"was not sent to your tv.(not a very good explanation .)
Option 1: live without hd channels
option 2:hdmi arc setup(if your tv supports only)
option 3:digital coaxial cable to your avr(if your tv doesnt support ARC)
option 4:assteruk beyond to hdcp stripper to hdmi splitter which outputs to the tv and avr)
option 5:optical cable from yr tv to avr(might not support dts and dolby digital from yr BD Player or Assteruk Byond)
for me because i do not have a HD Avr im using option 3 for bd player and assteruk byond pvr ,option 5 for tv
*
Yeah I roughly understand what you're trying to tell me. So if I know my TV has this HDCP thingy as it works perfect when I plug my Astro direct to my TV... but I believe my Onkyo TR-809 should also have the HDCP stripper, according to it's User Manual.

>>Not very good explanation, I must agree LOL, but I still could comprehend what you're trying to say. Probably I've set everything on the AVR to Auto output, thus sending the "wrong-ish" signal out to my TV?

Option1: NOH, I love watching and producing HD content tongue.gif
Option2: both my Amp and TV supports ARC, but I've NO idea (till this date) how to set it up properly, unless ARC only works if my input source on my tv is via HDMI? (idk i know nothing lol)
Option4: What kinds of HDCP stripper are there out there? I know nothing, but It's interesting as I could use this option if all else fails.
Option5-6-7-8:. hahaha well, I do have Tos-Link too.. but the main reason why i wanna plug to my AVR is so that i can use it to decode the 5.1 surroound, and also use it as my main splitter to my overhead projector....

did your amp work with hd channels before?if it did , i think the HDCP stripper broke .or u can play around the settings.
i do not recommend using option 4 because it will be messy like crap.
just call the person where you bought the avr from
*
I didn't get your first question just now... what you mean "did my Amp work with hd channels before?...... the only thing i use on it is my MediaHDD player to play HD movies...then just when i got astro Byond installed, i tried to hook it up to my amp, it worked for only 10 seconds before the Copy Protection Failed thingy pops up... "HDCP stripper broke?"... I could try playing with the settings.. i hope nothing serious or it's just a small issue?.

If i call/contact the shop/guy where i got my AVR from, what sort of questions should I be directing towards them?

i bet you're using the media player to play play pirated movies right.Pirated movies(obvsly not hd)aren't HDCP protected.
But your Assteruk Byond content is. so what i suspect your AVR does not have HDCP stripper
Did it CLEARLY states that it does?
*
whistling.gif .... well, more of HD content to be more precise.
but it said this
"The AV receiver supports HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection)*2, a copy-protection system for digitalvideo signals. Other devices connected to the AV receiver via HDMI must also support HDCP"
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

So yeah?... lol

ARC is quite simple to setup actually, but also depends on your TV and AVR supports it or not

If both supports, try this setup: (HDMI 1 is H1, HDMI2 is H2, and so on)

1. Find out which HDMI port on your TV has the ARC, usually it will be labeled there
2. Assume H2 is the ARC port
3. Connect your Astro to H1 (non ARC)
4. Connect your AVR's out to H2 (ARC port)
5. Switch on both, now you should be able to get the Astro audio from your AVR
*
yeah I know how to do the ARC thingy, but i can never get it work... the ARC is available via output of H1 from the TV and my AVR is receiving the AVR from its HDMI MainOutput lol...But, i'll figure out the ARC thingy later, my mainconcern now is fpr the HDCP thingy to be solved.

for HDMI Stripper, I've bought the following item... but it's not here yet... so I cannot tell you if it is working or not...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/300938129341

there are many China made HDMI splitter which strips HDCP signal so you probably can look around at aliexpress.com so it all depends on your luck to get HDMI splitter with HDCP stripped on output signal...

Want a high quality HDCP stripper?

HDFury 4 (Google) is a good one with hacked software... but prepare to spend RM1500 for it

You can use this as reference as well:

Wow... that's.. a lot... just for one T.T.... I'll check out the made in china one later i guess.. but lemme solve this one issue first... smile.gif

Thanks for the info smile.gif

well if you want to solve quick and easy, plug hdmi cable straight to your tv
digital coaxial from assteruk and media player(why do you need this when you have smart tv?!!)to optical input of avr
*
Because my main reason as that It's easier to to my setup... plus my AVR MAIN OUTPUT is direct to the TV and I also have another AVR SUB Output direct to my overhead projector....That's the whole point of the set up... So you recommend me to cal the shop that I purchase my AVR/TV from?

just want to ask a quick question..

my grandparents are still using the old astro silver box decoder..in the recent Astro bill, they sent a leaflet saying my grandparents can switch to the new byond decoder FOC..

my question is, is it really free? will they need to pay the extra RM20 per month for Byond? If they dont need to add another RM20, then they will change..if not, my grandparents will go on with the old decoder..

so is it free switching?
*
SHould be foc... why should they pay extra RM20... unless you've subscribed to the extra channels...
