StarHub on Friday unveiled a compensation package for the 35,000 customers who were affected by the service disruption that resulted from the fire at SingTel’s Bukit Panjang Exchange on 9 October.

Under the package, StarHub TV customers will have free viewing of more than 170 channels for one month.

Also, Digital Voice customers will receive one-month subscription waiver, while broadband customers will receive a $10 supermarket voucher.

“We understand the service disruption has inconvenienced our customers. This compensation is a gesture of our appreciation to our customers who have shown a lot of patience and understanding toward us during this challenging period," said Jeannie Ong, StarHub’s chief marketing officer.

SingTel will compensate its home customers who were left without broadband, phone and pay-TV services for days after a fire broke out at one of its nine key Internet facilities.

Some 60,000 home broadband service customers will get a speed boost for the next three months, the telco told The Straits Times on Monday. This means those on a 200Mbps plan will get bumped up to 300Mpbs for free, for example.

Affected mioTV customers will be given a month's worth of free viewing of all channels, while those who had their fixed voice line and mioVoice disrupted will get one- month's worth of free local calls.

For business customers, the telco said it will be reaching out to them individually to work out compensation packages.

Problem started at 6.10pm. Fire at UPS room. Total 78 channels effected - 59 SD & 19 HD. 7 regional playout channels being impacted. They're switching priority channels to CBC. Fire has been put off. Radio had a glitch but was recovered. Switching of priority channels takes abt 1 to 2 hrs.Due to the fire, LAN room connections impacted causing calls to Call Center being down now. Team is trying to recover.

such fire aren't supposed to happen in such a mission critical area

and the fire are still raging until ppl got time to snap a pic of it?

If that room indeed is the UPS room, means it's full of batteries
batteries = explosive
heat + batteries = ????

they are lucky there aren't any explosion, else the whole situation could be worse

by right the fire should be contained in the sealed room within a minute, but it doesn't seems so in this case.

We sincerely apologize for the service interruption which occurred at 6pm, 24 August 2014, which impacted 78 channels including our call centre telephony system. The service interruption was caused by a fire in our facility at Bukit Jalil.

Bomba was notified immediately. The safety of our staff is our priority and as such they were evacuated from the premises. The fire was extinguished at 6.30pm and only after clearance from Bomba at 7.30pm, our staff were allowed to re-enter the premises.
Our immediate priority was to restore the transmission of the affected channels followed by the operations of the call centre.

The TV channels were recovered in phases, starting from 8.30pm and all channels were recovered by 11pm. AOTG and IPTV followed shortly after. Our call centre was operational by 8.45pm.

We are thankful that there were no casualties. The incident is being thoroughly investigated and needed actions will be taken.Once again, we apologize to all our customers for the service interruption.

Thank you for your kind understanding and as a gesture of appreciation, we are opening up all our channels for our customers to enjoy (except for Pay-per-view services - Astro First, Astro Best and Astro Box Office Sports) for this coming long weekend, starting Friday, 29 August at 6pm till Monday, 1 September, midnight.

Free viewing for 48 hours seems unfair to those who subscribe to premium channels. As expected from Astro, they're reluctant to waive the amount in the bills.

Firstly, we would like to thank you for taking the time to communicate with us. However, we regret to inform that at the moment we do not have channel capacity to launch Fox Sports 2 and 3 in High Definition. We will definitely broadcast it to the public should there be a confirmation on the changes in any near future.

So looks like there will no longer be HD transmission of F1, MotoGP, NASCAR etc for at least till end of year.

No ASTRO arena hd anymore??hope they have Eurosport in hd

Did you guys notice voice distortion on Disney XD HD the last few days ? It will last approx. 5-10 secs and it can re-occur within the same show.

Astro may downscale it to so-called-SD and crop it with weird aspect ratio (like what they did to FOX).
