However I think you should not let him go easy. He wasted your time, effort and cause u frustration. If you let him go easy, he will do it again. Your head can be stepped and all he need to do is undo his action without any consequences. He will try again on another victim.

I was scammed of RM1400 once. But this guy is tricky. He doesn't want to refund and give all sort of excuses, epic scenarios, delay many time and such (it was easy for him as I'm in sarawak that time and he was in semenanjung plus I was still in university while he is working already).

So being a gentleman, I didn't announce it to his facebook/friends. I was doing this for him, being a good guy and trying not to destroy his future and ruin his friendship with others. I waited until I came to semenanjung, found his house and talk to his parents. His parents sucks, same species as him. Useless talking to his parents. They even dare to say it is my fault for giving my money to him so padan muka me, saying the world is like this, I just have to adapt. I was pissed and told them it is them and their son that is making this world worse for all of the genuine people/traders. Sworn I will not only get back my money but teach them a lesson.

That was when I investigated really deep and with the help of others, managed to not only collect enough people and evidences to present to the police, but also instill fear in him. Total scammed from me and others was RM24k. He is a goner for sure. He cried, beg, threaten to kill himself bla bla bla. Actually he cried a lot, screamed in the handphone saying he will kill himself for quite a few times. I told him if he want to kill himself, than it is his own action and doesn't involve me at all.

To cut the story short, he refunded all my money plus extra rm200 through monthly installments. Others were refunded too. After that, he has to quit his job here and ran to sarawak to start new (I was tracking him a bit, his parents ran too). I guess that is enough punishment from me so I didn't involve the police.

Hope he has changed.
