What are the best camera selling at shops now for shooting fast action but still capable of really sharp detailed pictures? My sis is tired of using her old nikon dslr. Most fast actions comes out blur. It is time for her to change so can anybody recommend? She don't like to fiddle much (except zooming) only just want a great camera for shooting sports and family.

Sometimes is not about the camera. But maybe about how your sister use it.

Try bumping up the shutter speed.

Cheers and happy experimenting. icon_rolleyes.gif

Lol RM1,500 UPwards? Hassleblad la.

No, seriously, it's the shutter speed. Set it to S mode, use 1/4000 or 1/8000, ISO800, let the camera decide the aperture and you're good to go.

which old DSLR is that? even old DSLR can shoot fast action if you know how smile.gif

anyway since u didnt mention what lens did she use, you're probably not really familiar with cameras so let us attempt to help u a bit

the main point of using a DSLR is the ability to change lenses. you can compare the cheapest, oldest DSLR and the newest, most expensive DSLR... it's very very hard to see the difference (unless it's under low light). lenses make or break the photos, not the DSLR.

to shoot fast action without blur, you need to get as much light as possible, in a short period of time, onto the sensor.

short period of time - so you'll 'freeze' the motion, i.e. wont get blurry photos. you can achieve this by setting the Shutter Speed. maybe 1/4000 should be quick enough. google or look through menus to learn how to set this in "shutter speed priority" mode.

the downside of using a fast shutter speed is you get less light in, i.e. darker photos. to balance this out, you need lenses that can allow a lot of light in by having a wider opening. look for lenses with an aperture of f/2.8 and below (smaller number = more light comes in). it can get expensive!

ideally for sports, get the nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 which is about rm7k. it's upwards of rm1.5k so that wouldn't be a problem now, wouldn't it? smile.gif

No camera or lenses under rm1500 can shoot fast action. Unless she is very good in manual focusing. Like in the old days with manual camera.

Learn the correct technique when shooting sport. It all down to the skill and not the camera itself unless the camera itself really got problem. Give you a best camera but lack of skill, the picture will turn out blur also

From that price range only one camera can do it. That is NIKON V1.

Pair it with 30-110mm u instantly get a great zoom range with super fast focus. And u can spam shots to 60 frame per sec too.

All in i think u can grab some at the price u mention.

My sis is impressed with Sony Alpha-58 (captured 9 out of 10 photos of her kids jumping, no blur). Canon Eos100 did 8 out of 10 nicely. All was needed is to set shutter to sports mode (A-B) and shoot. She tried Olympus and Nikon too. But for sports she made up her mind on Canon and Sony.

Between the two brands, which is better to buy for peace of mind and warranty. Anybody know

"sports mode" is just a 'shortcut' to a specific setting. you can do it on any DSLR.

trust me bro. she already has a DSLR, im 100% sure it's good enough for the job. just learn how. dont rely on whatever sports mode or what. learn about shutter speed n ISO n aperture n so on.

old DSLR + correct lens is way way way better than new DSLR + standard lens

If old DSLR can't shoot sports properly, you can forget about the new one. waste money.

I can use old junk Canon EOS 350D / Nikon D40 and still nail the money shots for sports events.

Yes it is shortcut. But my sis want few simple buttons only. If more settings, I suppose she can go into the menu system. Getting new things is one of her hobby.

get an Oly OMD EM-5, a fast prime n a big memory card, then machine gun away...

it (claims to) have the world's faster AF system
it has 5 axis IS
9.2 fps burst...

i think ur sis will end up getting a Canon 1DX + 50/105/135/200 prime laugh.gif if she keeps on blaming the equipment..

SONY dslr is mirrorless, no flip flop mirror, combined with focus tracking, that's why its can captured faster and maintain focus.
Search any 2nd hand model, combined with minolta telephoto lens, then u're good to go...
