Don't flame me - that is based on my experience using all these 3 phones. And don't turn this post of mine into any debate. My needs/taste are definitely different from many of you guys. What I can say HTC1 is still a good phone though is never my preferred choice.
HTC 1 only great features is its great speakers quality ( but I hate the look of the speakers and placement which looks like a lastminute placement on top; I'd have prefer the speakers to be hidden behind the case like Butterfly). And I prefer HTC Butterfly design over the HTC1 anytime.

Device design aside, how do you feel about about software experience in S4 & One?
Based on software alone which 1 do you prefer?

Lag exist in pretty much every computing machine.Trick is to minimize them.Android has come long way since the version 2.3 days.Pre 2.3 did have issues with performance because Google was more concerned with OS/hardware adaptation. Aside from immature OS OEM's bloatware did cause some lagging issues with earlier Android devices.

With Android 4.1 things have changed.Android devices from major OEM's have good performance and user experience (in Samsung's case bit bloated perhaps).
To help reduce the lag issue even more Google recently added fstrim support in Android which already showing noticeable long term performance boost in older devices.

I have used current major 3 mobile OS. I have to say each of them has it own advantages. Frankly speaking iPhone is a good device because it doesn't need any learning curve in order to use it. However if you want to customize something you're out of luck. Also transferring media via cable is pain in the @$$.

I never own HTC One myself (I'm Nexus 4 owner) but I've used it extensively & I can say it's a solid device & you can get almost all the Google services in Malaysia.The UI/UX is quite simple & easy to use. Eventually you will encounter some minor issues but you can always Google to solve the issue.

My choice will be HTC One simply because I hate iTunes.

and my last phone Samsung Galaxy S2 rooted with custom rom have tons of apps without lag  whistling.gif

Not everyone have the technical knowledge to modify device software. Regular end users should be provided stable & reliable software for daily usage.

P/s : Eid Mubarak to HTC One owners that celebrate it. Hopefully we got something from Ramadan that just passed us, and hopefully we'll live long enough to meet it again next year.

As long as you only download apps from recognized app store like Google Play or Amazon I don't think you'll get the rogue apps. Some apps use higher than usual resource.You can always check which app does this and remove them.

HTC One's software is just fine for average users.IMO there's no need to modify much.Anyway in order to root you're required to unlock the device at HTCDev website.This will void warranty I'm sure you don't want that.
