Hello fellas happy.gif

The time has finally come to get new shoes for my car, or maybe new soles...

So, 1.8MT, Still on stock tyres and rims. Tyres are botak habis. Time to change.

Got a few questions which I hope youg guys can help with some pointers:

1. Any feedback from 1.8MT users who have changed to Lancer GT 18" Rims? It's the most boring change, but it does look decently good and cheap. I have tried a manual with lancer GT rims for a day, but that was more than 2 years ago and honestly at that time I could not tell the difference. Anyone want to share their experience?

2. 18" or 17" or 16". I travel short distances every day (almost 3 years, mileage not even 40k I think). Because of this, I like to enjoy my short drives, so I am little aggressive on the throttle. However, I don't think I'm aggressive on the cornering (meaning, I don't whack corners at high speed). I meet quite a lot of bumps everyday, a minimum of 7 to work one way.

3. Any rims+tyre combo to recommend? I'd like something simple like the Lancer GT 18". In fact, I sorta like the rims on the brand new suprima.

Beyond that, I'd like to gain some low end torque. Any tips/pointers? I hear lightened pulley and change to 4-2-1 extractor? Need recommendations. So so tempted to go for speedworks BOT, but with no proper review written, i'm a little apprehensive. Anyway, wheels first, then suspension, then brakes, then performance.

Like many would tell you, LGT rims are much heavier than our stock 16" rims. With a heavier rim, you'd get lower acceleration. That said, I've not driven a manual inspira on LGT rims though.

Your mileage is 40k and your tires are bald already?

Technically yes, but I did borrow my friend's manual with LGT rims, and I could not for the life of me feel any difference. It could be due to my car being crappy and his car being great, or I'm just dumb that way, which is why I'm looking for people who have actually experience and felt the difference. I bring up the LGT rims because I think getting cheaper (taiwan) rims will cost about the same anyway. I don't plan to spend more than 3.5K (rims + tyres).

And yeah, my tyres are bald haha. I don't check my tyre pressure that often, maybe once in 2 months, so I guess that contributed + slightly aggressive driving + the roads I take everyday (steep hills with turns). I also often use my vehicle often, average 2 times a day (x2 for return journeys), sometimes 3 or 4. So a lot of parking.

I know I know haha. I think the same too really. But as mentioned, I honestly could not feel the difference. I would like 18" primarily for the looks, then handling (suspensions next), and possible brake upgrades. I am nub at rims so I'm afraid I might really screw myself over if I pick the wrong 18" rims. Definitely want low end torque. Too many bumps, turns, traffic lights in my daily drive >.<. Sometimes when I drop a friend home, it's 23 bumps OMG. Over a distance of only 4 KM.

Any suggestions? What 17" rim are you using? Or reliable brands maybe? Especially for rims. Kinda feels like lucky draw when I don't have any way to know the manufacturing process of the rims.

LGT 18" stock rims are one of the cheapest JWL rated rims you can find for your lala that still looks good enough to-date.

Checkout what JWL rating is and its stamped on the rims... this is one of the main reasons I bought this super heavy rims... for Malaysian potholed roads.... Weight is 11.75kg to be exact.

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/993-...l-stanards.html

Acceleration is a bit slower but being manual, am sure it can be easily compensated, just tekan more.

Hehehe, good to see you guys still around. That's my reasoning as well with regards to the LGT rims. It looks good (though I don't know what to do with the mitsu cap), is probably durable (thanks for proving it), no headache about size. The only reason why it isn't a done deal is because I really want to increase low end torque, and this would take me in the opposite direction and God knows what kind of mods are needed to balance out the new rims what more improve after that. 11.75kg is heavy (0.o). Maybe I should bring a weighing scale to the tyre shops and start weighing those taiwan rims LOL.

I must come by the TT again some day. Been way too long.
