Let me start by letting you know that INTEND (Read: Always WANTED to OWN ONE) and i'm looking to purchase this beau;

Land Rover Freelander 2.0 (A) TD4 DIESEL 06 -06

user posted image

Since I have not much experience mingling with pipu who own one, I thought I'd put it up for the sifu's to kindly comment their views on some of the following questions I have;

- Maintenance? How much should I anticipate paying monthly/quarterly?
- FC - Are the LR known for their frugality when it comes to FC?

The above are two of my main concerns, I'd be happy to hear if there are any other issues/grouses I should look out for when checking this model out this coming weekend.

My relative had the previous gen of land rovers. Worst car she ever had (compared to her previous honda/toyota). Always got start up problems even after countless of repairs. Traded it in the end. Not too sure about this model though.

This particular freelander TD4, its main problem is the turbo. And the engine too. Not the engine design and durabilty(Its a BMW engine), but the diesel quality in Malaysia sucks. So long term use would hurt the engine much. Thats why MOST people would sell off this car, or keep it since its not worth selling due to the 2nd hand value.

Maintenance for a Land Rover, well, quite pricey if u go to their SC (near section 14 PJ). Theres a few Land Rover specialists scattered throughout Klang Valley, where u can get cheaper rates. The one I know is at Kg Melayu Sg Buloh..

But all in all, driving one is totally spectacular and u can ask most Land Rover owners, once they have one, they'll surely keep it. (If u can afford it) Hehe.

Btw, had a Discovery V8i. The car was 11 years old when we sold it. Still alive n kicking. Cant afford the roadtax n maintenance anymore since budget constraint at that time..

Thank you for your input, after much consideration and looking at these units from various 2nd hand dealers, I've decided NOT to go ahead with the LR's for now.

DON'T. It is seriously expensive to take care of one given the reliability issues.

Sorry to hear this happening to your car. What model isit?

It seems the general concensus is NOT to get one. I'll stay away from LR for now.

Maybe when I migrate to UK then can consider. icon_idea.gif
