Boss, but even at that time Mutiara Damansara (MD) was so near to BU, Taman Tun etc, many high income families nearby to fast track the success of MD...

But look around Cochrane...Jusco Maluri is not a good gauge of the current local neighbourhood as the shoppers come from many places. The ex-Carrefour there can be a good representation n visited few times...compared to the patrons of Tesco at MD, they are from two different world...

So geographically Cochrane lack of the strong immediate surrounding income support...

Am sure Ikea later will find that their shopper profile in Cochrane to be very different from those at MD...

Can't think of benefits of staying within close distance of ikea, unlike a mall or hypermarket, u can visit daily for your needs, entertainment and convenience

But one does not need to visit ikea everyday, or go there to be entertained or find daily necessity there conveniently

Also the crowd at ikea MD on weekend is suffocating, not enough oxygen if u are caught in that mad crowd

Some business need to sell noodles to a crowd of 100 people a day to start making profit

A Rolex authorized dealer maybe only need to sell 10 watches a month to make profit

But ikea business model best...capture all level of price point from all levels of society from Rm5 per item to per order of RM 10k. Sure that they also throw in loss leader...

No doubt many patrons of ikea are known to go there 6c6c to "copy idea"...
