i have used this device for more than a year. a week ago i could not read it. i ejected it and inserted it again. message i got was device was not recognised by my PC and then device failed to install properly.
under "devices and printers" it is shown as HD-LBU3 (Buffalo External HDD USB Device - Turbo PC) and the comment is that the hardware is working properly. but under the hardware properties-volume tab however, no info is shown. i also keep hearing a clicking sound from the device. it sounds like it is spinning and stopping.
this is a solution that i found online but i am not sure if this will work for me.
Already mentioned numerous times in this forum about removing the HDD from the external enclosure for data recovery purposes. Also do NOT use another external enclosure again. Example re-quote here... under "devices and printers" it is shown as HD-LBU3 (Buffalo External HDD USB Device - Turbo PC) and the comment is that the hardware is working properly. but under the hardware properties-volume tab however, no info is shown. i also keep hearing a clicking sound from the device. it sounds like it is spinning and stopping.

Another usual/common USB not enough power issue. That's why I've often mentioned either using an USB "Y" cable first, and/or removing the HDD from the enclosure and connecting it directly (via SATA or IDE connection) to a desktop PC. For data recovery purposes, never use another external enclosure.
Thus that's a very common way to test/check and recover data from external HDDs. Where have you been? QUOTE(lizamama @ Jul 15 2013, 01:59 PM)
