Hi there, My kit 18-55mm IS is quite stiff when turning the zoom ring. It gets annoying when going to 18mm you need some force to reach that focal length and when zooming in. Is there anyway to fix this problem? I noticed my relatives kit lens on a newly bought cam can rotate the the zoom ring nicely fortunately mine came out stiff PS: My lens is almost 3 years old. Before this I was not bothered about it cause not so stiff, now it tends to get stiffer over time. This post has been edited by sp6068: Jul 15 2013, 04:52 PM

focus ring or zoom ring? you are saying 1 thing while describing another diff thing. if you saying the zoom ring gets stiffer over the time...then i can say something (probably dust or sand) got into it and jamming it up. What can you do? buy new lens! Yay!! time to upgrade

Should be the zoom ring... TS, have you asked Canon to quote you for fixing it? if the price is more or less the same as a new 18-55 then you can get a new one instead... otherwise like Decapix said... maybe it's a good time to upgrade

Focus ring, then zoom ring, then back to focus ring, ... Anyways, for focus ring make sure that you have actually set the lens AND body to ManualFocus mode before turning the focus ring. Otherwise you are damaging both the lens and body. For zoom ring, nothin much you can do. Try to Google if you can find any methods for cleaning or just get a new one. A kit lens doesn't cost much anyways. Good luck.
