Q & A1. What Do we Need from Client to get the exact quotation
Hi, before proceed to pricing quotation, we need a dimension layout plan either in pdf/ jpg format...
so that we can get a roughly sqf for your house.
Afterthat, we will send a rough pricing based on sqf only..
Once get the roughly price, client can make a appointment with us so that we can go and check on the site, and giving the best price for your house.
2. How is the charging rate for Interior Designer
Hi, our price basically based on 3 type of charging rate
A. Drafting and 3D visualizing service
B. Interior Consultant Service
C. Interior Consultant & Site Supervision Service
Our Fee will be charging various by criteria that request by client..
Price is highly negotiable...

Furniture layout plan (include construction plan, and layout of built in/ loose furniture)
M&E layout plan (all powerpoint location, A/C wall light location..etc)
RCP - reflected ceiling plan (Ceiling layout, lighting point, lighting type...etc)
3D Visual - Visualize the space/ design with photo realistic drawing (digital rendering image) that could reach 80% of actual house design.
2D drawing - Full set of construction drawing with dimension, specification, detail
*Our space planning will be well plan before proceed to the construct, the spacing of the area should be confirmed before proceed to construct.
Beside that, all of the M&E, Ceiling lighting point drawing will be prepared to minimize any of extra cost during the construction period.
There is no issue on the drawing for contractor / carpenter, contractor / carpenterwill be follow our 2d drafting (elevation and section, detail, material) to get the info to make the built in furniture...

You can specify what kind of responsibilities (big or small) the interior designer will be given. So you can say you need redecorating and he/she can do the design work and collaborate with you on the aesthetics, even help you source items like furniture, light fixtures, etc.
I suggest comparing the values of each quotation. If, like the other thread has posted before, you can get more bang for the same amount of buck, go for the one who provides more services.

It's 1 thing to draw beautifully, but entirely another when it comes to detailing. In this field without detail drawings, you will encounter many problems on site if just based on 3D drawings to construct. And RM18k for 3D and furniture layout is quite high end, good for him but i did a project in Parkcity b4, owner paid designer RM25k for 3D drawings without any detail drawings. End up the whole idea can't be use because on site measurement differs with 3D drawings and most of the initial conceptual design differs completely. It's easier to design shoplots because there aren't many build in furniture, but for residential mainly bungalow units where there are many build in furniture, without detailing, you wont end up with a nice interior.

Most do it because the opportunity for revenue is so much greater on the build side rather than design. A few good ID fellas I know will never waive the design fee and for a simple reason, you've requested for a professional service and that is what they provide their clients as professionals.
I applaud these fellas as it is not easy to explain over and over again why you charge a design fee when another company does not.

Ehwee, I would like to address on your 1st paragraph. An Interior Designer
Should provide all layout except single line electrical diagram because we
Are not engineer or draftman. We should provide 3D drawings and details drawings.
We will also provide presentation board for all furniture, colours, material, textures
And soft furnishing. And lastly we will provide BQ and it is up to the client to go
Ahead to engage my contractor or he may find any other contractor to do the job.
It is my job to consult But it is not an interior designer job to do a site inspection unless
we are paid to project manage. My current client is very understanding. He's having his
Reno now and he is from this forum. When ever he ask me questions, I'll give him a feedback.
