Hi xboxian,

I connected my xbox 360 to lcd monitor using component input. Then how do I hook up Xobx 360 to a speaker (assuming that I have 5.1 speaker -e.g. Edifier R501) ? tongue.gif What kind of connector should I have?

Can someone give opinion should I just get 2.1 speaker or 5.1 speaker flex.gif ? Which brands are great for Xbox 360 in terms of gaming and watching dvd? The price should be around RM400.

1.5? never heard of that one before sweat.gif I would use stand audio L-R connections, unless your hearing is super sensitive i dont think you would notice the difference. I heard optical is pretty sweet but if you on a budget then the standard is the way to go. Ive always had good luck with philips if you wanna check their mini home theatres out (5.1) they work well. they support component too, but i dont tink they support optical (well they didnt use to)

Actually I just want to get any good pc speaker since it's cheaper than home theater. Yesterday I went to one of the speaker showroom and test the 5.1 pc speaker. I saw they hooked up the speaker to the dvd player which support dolby. Sound not as good as home theater but I still can feel sound coming from different angle. If I hook up 5.1 pc speaker to Xbox 360, is it can produce the same thing? If not I maybe I just get the 2.1 speaker so I didn't waste my ears.

About the optical thing what actually that thing do? Can you give me any optical picture link?

the optical are the only way for you to get true 5.1 sounds from xbox. your amp or speaker should also have optical IN and capable of decoding Dolby Digital signal.

To get the positional sound you need either something that can do Dobly Digital via the optical plug, or Dolby Pro Logic via the normal audio plugs (did I mix this up?)

Thank man.... Now I understand..... I need an amp or speaker that can decode Dolby Digital signal.... so it's mean xbox 360 doesn't have they own chip to decode the signal right? thumbup.gif

I don't think the amp or speaker can decode the signal are cheap...... Maybe I just go with good 2.1 speaker...... flex.gif

well, xbox360 support Dolby 5.1 by optical output only. the analog will have dolby surround for 2.1 setup.

so, if possible, get a speaker set with optical input support for 5.1. exp like klipsch DMX5.1D, logitech z680 or z5500.

for speaker like edifier R501, it's only a speaker set with amp and doent have dolby decoder built in. so u cant connect ur xbox360 to have 5.1 srround sound. cuz this type of speaker need a computer soundcard that support analog 5.1 output (with 3 deferent connector, green, balck and orange) cuz the surround sound is decode by the soundcard it self and outpu it to deferent position's satelit speaker. unless u get an external soundcard or decoder unit like creative extigy or DDTS-100.

or u may try to look for creative inspire GD580 as well if wanna cuz cost. it should be about RM800. i saw it early this ear at lowyat.

hope u guys understand what am i talking about... kindergarden standard english... pay sey~~~~

actually, you can hook up the analogue out to a Dolby Surround Pro-Logic receiver to get 4-channel positional audio (Left,Right,Center,Rear), though it may not be as discreet as Dolby Digital / WMA9Pro, the rear channel really works, im having a Pro-Logic setup, can hear bullet whizzes and gunshots from the back in COD2. not sure if Dolby Surround Pro-Logic II (5 channels - front L-R, center, rear L-R) would work though, dont hv the system.

should be around 800-1k. 700 might be hard to find, but still possible. maybe if there's any store trying to clear old stock.

xb360 support pro-logic II. i have tried pro-logic II and DD/DTS, trust me a true 5 channel sounds are much more better than any pro-logic II sound. hearing the gunshot and bullets whizzing in Black Hawk Down movie are really sweets biggrin.gif

for budget tight, get an external soundcard like extigy or any other that capable of decoding Dolby Digital signal + cheap pc 5.1 speaker. should cost you rm500-rm600.

Home Theater in a Box. Everything you need is inside the box. DVD player, speakers, amp, subwoofer and all the cables.

There's some good deals within that range at Desa Home Theater in Puchong. Lemme see if I can find any links.
