I've been a gout sufferer for over 10 years (since I was 23 yrs old). And believe me I've tried every single drug and protocols out there except daily and adequate amounts of alkaline water since I don't have a consistent supply of it.
Just try googling Gout cures - you'll easily find testimonies of thousands of different protocols while medical journals concede to the statement - "No cure".
The reason why gout is so prevalent, without a drug cure, is because not enough doctors suffer from it. Conventional doctors themselves have no idea how gout begins, and natural-healing doctors are better educated but there are few around. The best advice you can get about gout are from gout sufferers.
What is Gout?
Gout is not a disease, its a symptom - a major one.
In simple terms, gout is a symptom that whatever you've been doing to your body be it eating, drinking, exercising, sleeping is just plain wrong and will get worse if you don't start doing anything about it. This is the sole reason why there is no one-size-fits-all approach to gout, and regrettably it is a myth that a single drug or product can act as a true cure. Another big myth is that one doesn't need to be old, fat or obese to get gout. I was at 13% bodyfat when I had my first attack which is the bodyfat average of athletes in Malaysia.
In medical terms, gout is a symptom and indicator to more serious health problems in the future. The common ones kidney stones and diabetes.
What happens during gout
Every gout sufferer knows that purines get metabolised causing high uric acid in the blood. Urate crystals form but doesn't get pee'd out and instead gets deposited in the joints. Your white blood cells keep attacking it and you either feel gouty or get the full blown acute attack.
Myth 1
Doctors tell you that, other than purines from food, your body also produces its own uric acid - which is false. The urate crystals form days later AFTER having a gout attack. New research from former WHO head shows that uric acid is more likely metabolised by fungal or parasitic activities.
Myth 2
Conventional doctors will tell you that your kidneys lack enzymes to properly expel uric acid. That's what they tell me every time even though my kidney work results show no issues whatsoever. In reality, it's true that your body isn't expelling enough uric acid. But its false that you lack enzymes to metabolise purines.
Why people get gout
1. Fungal/parasites
Every gout sufferer should check for this early on. However, most will turn out negative because medical scientists haven't found a reliable way to look it. There are hundreds of thousands species known to affect the human body.
2. Lack of pH buffers (High body acidity)
Every time you eat, drink, work, exercise and sleep you will cause an acidity change. The body will use pH buffers like sodium, magnesium, calcium, potassium and other minerals to buffer the change so that your blood and parts of the body can keep within their respective healthy pH levels.
For gout sufferer specifically, the body had produced too much acids without sufficient minerals to buffer. This causes the urine to be acidic which ultimately renders the kidneys unable to optimally expel excess uric acid. This build up eventually leads to gout attack.
This is the most common cause. However, not everyone's high acidity is from the same mineral deficiency.
3. Sugar and Fructose
Both are known to inhibit your body's natural ability to rid uric acid.
4. Fat loss (Losing weight)
Over a period of time, uric acid can be stored in fat cells so the blood stream can have high uric acid when burning fat really fast. I lost 6kg in 1 month and instantly had an acute gout attack. Many others with a history of gout have had the same experience.
Curing gout with drugs
Colcichine - stops the pain by halting your white blood cells from attacking the crystals
Allopurinol/Uloric - lowers uric acid in the blood.
These work but you're only dumbing down the problem, not correctly fixing it. Behind the scenes your body and kidney is still having issues with excess uric acid.
Many gout sufferers have to increase their dose of Allopurinol or Uloric because as they age they're increasing their body's acidity.
Curing gout the real way
Every gout case is different due to different inefficiencies in the body either from diet or minerals. So do trial and error to see what works. For minor cases, upping their water intake is enough.
1. Stop sugar
Stay away from sugars - all processed and carbonated drinks.
2. Stop juice
Don't drink juice even if fresh. Fructose without the fiber is problematic and makes you fat quickly.
3. Lower serving from starch carbohydrates
High amounts of rice, pasta, potatoes cause sugar spikes
4. Colon and kidney cleanse
This is to restore function and might also remove fungus/parasites
5. Restore pH levels:
i. Google for acidic foods/drinks and apply it.
You don't have to stop eating meats or high purine foods. I take 150 grams of protein every day. The primary factor is the acidity of the food after it gets metabolised.
ii. Baking soda/sea salt
This gives your body the sodium and bicarbonates to help buffer the acids. Take quarter teaspoon in water, 1-4 times a day, 30mins before or after meals.
Note: If you eat alot of salty foods, then Sodium may not be what your body is lacking.
iii. Potassium
Some people take Baking soda on its own and it doesn't work. That's because potassium and sodium levels each other out. If you increase one, you need to increase the other. This translates to higher buffers.
I take fruits and veges for Potassium.
iv. Magnesium/Calcium/Vitamin D
These 3 work in tandem. Try take supplements for these to a high but safe amount.
v. Vitamin C
3000mg a day. This is your main and healthy anti-inflammatory supplement.
vi. Fresh coconuts
Reverses body acidity and the only juice allowed for drinking.
vii. Vitamins & Minerals
Today's vegetables aren't as nutritious so take multivitamins from a good brand.
Other methods I tried but didn't work for me since I had adequate reserves of Potassium:
1. Cherry fresh, juice, concentrates, extracts
2. Celery seed boiled, extracts
3. Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
4. Chia Seeds
5. 2-4 liters water with lemon
Feel free to PM me if you're not clear about anything. Good luck.
