Dude, change the hsf before u attempt to do anything, 9800 cards do release and enormous amount of heat when overclocked. And take a look at the core wether its a R350 or R360. If its R360 then u can flashed it to a 9800xt bios to gain some oommphhss.

Nothing much can be done with the stock cooling. Even the stock cooling is not that good with stock speed, just adequate only. Buy artic cooling Ati Silencer lah, just rm95 at the Bulk Sales area.

very true.... stock cooler hopeless at any kind of OC... had one before, after a few weeks sold it because wasnt satisfied with it.... my suggestion, u really have to change da cooler if u wanna start any OC with da card... if not da heat will make it unstable to be used... even with ram sinks on da rams doesnt help that much...

The priority is the gpu core, if the gpu is using stock cooling adding ramsinks wont help either since only the memory would benefit it. U need to exchange both.

u should be able to get it to 9800pro speed if u change the cooler. the stock is just way too modest for the heat it generates

We can guide u on how to change. If youre not interested in changing the fan, then forget about OCing the card. You'll end up with a burned card later on.

QUOTE(speedoom @ May 13 2006, 09:23 PM) thanks for the info guys.... but then, i dont know how to change and not really interested changing the fan... if u r going to change the cooler for RM95, i think betta sell it off rite? since it still hav market value close to RM300. if u r lucky can get more. add RM95 RM400 u can get a betta card dy. jz my opinion.

Dude, we cant cope with the technologies. Upgrade when new things right on the shelf ? I think 9800 Pro still have a potential since its a flagship model last time. For me myself, my Ati 9800XT is working well for me. Why buy a new card when old card is enough ? For me i'd opt to change the cooler and whack the hell out of it

for a cheaper solution, just mod socket A hsf and put it on the chip. i have done it with my 6600, reduce the temp about 10celcius. try it This post has been edited by LarharT: May 18 2006, 04:45 AM

Dude, try not to double post and just edit your last message. Btw using amd socket A hsf might do the trick but u really need to do something about its weight. Using cable ties might solve the problems, go ahead and try.
