Guys, need help....i need to turn my S3 into a wireless receiver/wifi dongle.

Here's the situation...just bought a new Desktop PC..

pc = doesnt have wireless card

Need to download softwares from the internet to install graphic drivers etc.

Internet = unifi streamyx..NO CABLE.

My phone can tether using USB cable, but no DATA plan at the moment.

So, i want to use my UNIFI wifi network, and connect it on my pc by using my S3 as a wifi dongle.

Can i change my S3 into a wireless receiver/dongle?

Please share. Thanks

This is a really weird situation. rclxub.gif
I guess just download the required driver on your phone, then transfer it via USB to the desktop and install?

● Turn any conversation into a video call with up to 10 friends.
● Use Hangouts on computers, Android and Apple devices.
● Hangouts stay in sync across devices so you can start or continue them anywhere.
● Get notifications just once. Once you see an alert, you won’t see repeats on your computer or other Android devices.

So you are saying whatsapp can do all these things?

Are you even comparing apple to apple?

Just wondering biggrin.gif
*
Hangout sounds great on paper.
But in reality it sucks big time.

Let's compare it to whatsapp.
-unable to send video at all
-cnt batch send multiple pic, only one by one.
-pic received not automatically saved, need manually save one by one.
-no clear indication of message delivered or read.
-very often, message not received unless u manually open hangout app. Makes it a useless messenger

Let's compare it to previous Google Talk

-no idea who is online
-always unable to call even tough the other guy is clearly online. I need to whatsapp him ask him open hangout app only he will receive the miss call notification
-no voice call only. Forced to video call.

In short hangout sucks big time.

This watch surely in the range of 200-400

Currently I'm still considering whether or not to buy chrome cast. More useful compare to the watch imo.

I'm using aosp rom where mhl port sill never work.
Chrome cast nor only let my phone project to tv, also works with my ipad. But the price... And the waiting time.... Hm...

No, I haven't tried it myself, I read that in the comments.

Here for instance - http://xda.codexc.com/?page_id=1110#comment-164

So are you saying ProBam's camera allows saving to the SD card?
The two ROMs I was looking at last night were Slimbean and LiquidSmooth. Both looked decent, but I guess I'll try ProBam first now if what the poster I quoted above says is correct, and then Slimbean if it isn't.

Thanks for the comments guys!
*
Slimbean camera can save to external.
Aokp rootbox and cm one also can a.
Got camera app that dun allow?

rooted, still can use ota update? or better use ODIN?
heard my friends that update via KIES will potentially brick the device sweat.gif
*
once you root, and have cwm,
dont really care about ota already.

malaysia ota always slow.
whenever got new version of stock rom come out,
custom rom will change their rom to be base on the new stock rom.
just flash that custom rom and done.

fancy custom rom with too much feature may contain more bugs and isues.
less feature and more close to stock is more stable.
hence rom like Neatrom & wamanlite so loved by many.

update via KIES or any other method is highly unlikely to brick the device.
it requires extreme noobness and bad luck to brick a device

*
samsung never lock the bootloader of any of their phone.
there is no bootloader to unlock.

actually tasker is not difficult to use.
if know basic C-programming, its easy to catch up.

even if you have 0 programming background, all you need is common sense and logic. its just telling the phone, if something happen, do another something.

check out this video if you lazy to read wall of text.

oh.. so this is considered normal for s3?  blink.gif
*
its shouldn't be normal.
i was assuming its a cm bug. since i'm using aosp custom rom.
not a big deal consider its very rare and doesnt do any real damage.

the first generation nexus 7 have this weird screen become washout after watching a video.
it also need a screen off and on to make it normal again during android 4.1. luckily in 4.2, it will automatically restore the contrast after few seconds.

S2 is 2-3yrs ago phone.... and with the pathetic 512mb ram if not mistaken , 4.1.2 is too much to let it handle alredi...LOL
*
s2 is solid smooth even on ics.
jellybean makes it even more consistant smooth.

compared to xperia s, and various xperia first gen, it totally pownes them in terms of smoothness.

s2 screen is not hd, just 800x480,
but that means way less pixel to push and with the mali400 gpu, everything fly smoothly on it.

Got a notification that there an official update available this morning...downloaded..installed..and behold!

Stuck at boot screen with the Samsung logo! 2nd time this has happened. First time it was faulty motherboard (according to Samsung service centre) so claimed warranty but now the warranty has ended. Sigh.

FYI, this phone was never rooted or flashed with custom firmware.
*
just use odin to flash any official firmware.

sometimes i feel samsung playing with us, pushing ota with no changelog, and the end user doesnt feel any difference at all. worst of all, with risk of soft bricking.

Hi Guys,

This morning at 730 am i was prompted to download the new firmware by my phone so I downloaded it using my data (3G). Never once did the download got interrupted or shown any issues. After installation, the phone hand at the Samsung logo and wont load.

At 11am, I sent it to the Lowyat Samsung Service Center.
First, the guy at the number ticket counter told me that me its known issue that download update over wifi/3g is unstable and can cause issues so we must use KIES. No one ever told me that as all my previous updates were done via wifi/3G. Got a feeling that if I told him I updated over KIES, he would have told me the opposite. I didn't want to waste my time talking to him.

When my number was called, I explained to the CS lady again. She was more friendly and told me that they will try to flash it but no guarantees. She said its known the new firmware is unstable (unstable official firmware, great!). If they can't flash within an hour then it could be hardware issue. As my phone is no longer under warranty, I will have to pay.

Now patiently waiting for 12pm.

Back in February, I had a similar issue and they had to change the motherboard but it was FOC due to still having warranty.

But why do I have to pay for Samsung's own mistake?
*
some day in the future, when you decide to learn rooting and realize how ridiculously easy to use odin to flash firmware, you'll laugh back at this story rolleyes.gif

actually my previous reply sparked my curiosity and i did some google search.

found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810048

so simple and easy to do. basically copy the said system apk to pc, replace 2 files inside,
then send back to the phone. reboot and profit.

i choose a very nice looking nexus ring. very satisfied with it. :-)

go check the thread, inside the first post got many links to other lock ring also.
*
Quoting back my old post regarding lockscreen ring.

it is very easy to customize the lock screen ring, all you need is a PC and a program to open and edit zip files.
There is a healthy selection of lockscreen ring here
http://faithcry.believable.org/lockrings.html

my favourite will be the nexus logo one, but the colors are not in the correct position.
it bugged me for quite a long time, if i edit the png image using windows standard editor, it will lose its transparency and become unusable.

introducing a web based picture editor. with this editor, you can add image, rotate stuff, and do all sorts of thing you like, let your imagination run wild

*
Slimbean, like all aosp rom, the mhl port doesn't work. And no wifi direct.
No s beam, no gimmicky smart features.

Camera working fine.
Excellent rom.

anyone uses slimbean here? Seems some of their website's link is broken? like their gapps and addons
*
I just update to slimbean v8 today from v7 without wipe.

Everything smooth and nice. No difference in smoothness for me. It's already very smooth before.
But the settings gets a major rearrangement. They try to integrate all the extra settings into the stock settings category.
Instead of putting everything into one slim settings like before.

Why need gapps or add on?
Just flash the rom, no need gapps.
It works fine already.
