I got this from the website of a school. I hope this can reduce the stress of the students who are going to take SPM 2013 or SPM 2014.

This scale is set by your teachers. I don't believe it takes 90 marks to get A+ for English. I have lots of friends who can hardly write a grammatical sentence and almost all of them got A+ in SPM 2011.

I obtained this from the website of another school. By the way, very few students in my school got A+ for English in SPM 2012. Many good students who often got A+ for English during the school exams also did not get A+ in SPM. The A+ marks for English may be lower in SPM 2011. |

QUOTE(Neutralysis @ Jul 6 2013, 11:06 PM) This is the grading scale for SPM 2012. It shows the minimum marks required to obtain the grades A+, A and A- . This may seem true and applicable to SPM 2012 only, as you mentioned it yourself. But, I don't think it's applicable for this year or the next, as we all do know that the grading scale for the SPM exam may vary annually. So, I don't see why this piece of info can lessen the burden of SPMers in one way or another I got this from the website of a school. I hope this can reduce the stress of the students who are going to take SPM 2013 or SPM 2014. |

QUOTE(work_tgr @ Jul 8 2013, 02:31 PM) What's surprising is 90 marks for A+ for English and 93 for Mathematics. These two subjects alone convinced me this grading scale is definitely not set by MOE and is definitely not last year's.I have reliable sources (marking examiners) to tell me it takes only 6 marks for Add.Maths to pass, and 40 for Sejarah to pass. And any English teachers out there could tell you a student who normally fail in school exams can end up with A+ in SPM. |

These two subjects alone convinced me this grading scale is definitely not set by MOE and is definitely not last year's. It is impossible that the passing mark for Add Maths is 6, because if this is true then almost nobody will fail Add Maths. Last year in my school there were 5 students who failed Add Maths, and they always got higher than 6 marks in the school exams. And for Sejarah, the passing mark is definitely below 40, since the graph for Sejarah is usually low. As for English, a lot of students last year who usually got A+ in the school exams ended up getting only A in SPM. So, the A+ mark for English must be quite high, and 90 sounds reasonable.I have reliable sources (marking examiners) to tell me it takes only 6 marks for Add.Maths to pass, and 40 for Sejarah to pass. Both my parents are teachers, and from various sources I got, all information I had given are entirely true (but probably differ for years.). I've got these news from way too many sources to say it is impossible. And for English, okay, perhaps the statistics for last year was higher. But 90 is still impossible because - the strict marking scheme for writing alone cuts away more than 10 marks out of the total 100 for normal students. those who perform better at English would probably 3. (for long essay, normal students would get only 25-33 out of 50 while better ones probably 38-44, true story from a exam markers) (do the Maths, assuming you get only 30. You have lost 20/180 where 180 is the total marks for P1+P2) - you won't get full marks for Section A. marking scheme forbids so. most you get is 33 or 34/35. - same for summary. It's very rare for students to get full marks for language because many do not paraphrase, most get only 2/3 out of 5. - many school teachers mark their internal exams too leniently. Some teachers in my school could give 45/50 for section B when in actual SPM they could only get 28. 90 is simply impossible. 80 is more likely. Unless there was really a major revamp last year, which I doubt so because I am quite exposed to the world of education (many family members, uncles, aunties are teachers + news from their colleagues) and I would have known about such revamp. And it's possible for someone to do well in school exams but not well for government tests. I got some friends who do very well in school exams for form 6, (score B+ in school exams), but for actual exam they got B - to C-. It must be because of the continuous writing. And for English, okay, perhaps the statistics for last year was higher. As I mentioned above, I got it from the website of another school. Maybe the teachers in that school do not know about how the SPM English paper is marked.
