I will be reviewing the player that has been mentioned here. Utilizing the Marvell QDEO chipset with full BD Java Menu (2D & 3D). Will post a critical review once I complete my tests. Will have calibration checks as well to see if its any different from the Oppo player that can play isos.

Quick review before I do a full in depth review.

Works as advertised. Has internal blu ray rom and 3.5in HDD slot. Has also 3 usb ports.

BD iso works with full menus. Also, picture slightly sharper than Oppo. But I believe QDEO implementation is slightly different. U hv full control of all QDEO options!

I hv mostly isos and bdmv folders as my backups and so far except for one title they all play fine.

The BDROM works flawlessly as well.

I will test all possible files. I hv tested m2ts and it works as well. I will test mkv with lossless audio once I hv the files.

No its not Android based. I believe its full Marvell based and shd be Linux based (I think).

I have been looking for a media player that can do full menu to supplement my Oppo that is the only one that I know can do 3D with full menu (old firmware). However, the Oppo 93 is no more in production.

However, lets not get ahead of ourselves. I am yet to complete testing, so let me complete and see what other issues it has.

Pricing is not cheap, its direct from China. So it must be worth it before I recommend. Let me complete my testing and I will report back.

geforce,

I'm currently checking to see if I will buy one.

movfreak,

Yes, we will need to since there is a Minimum Order Quantity to be able to get decent pricing with shipping, not sure about warranty as hv not worked it out yet.

I'm a little tied up for the next 10 days, hope to have something by the end of next week at least. Plus I need to watch some complete movies to ensure there are no other issues with the player.

Okay, please note that the person whom I sent a pm to about this player, did indicate to me the price he paid. He said the NFS portion of the player is not stable.

Cool. I will need to test NFS and Samba but hv never set them up with any player before. I will try it on these.

I used Taobao agent to help me purchased the goods so add another 20% is what I paid.

For example RMB2200 convert to RM is (RMB2200/1.8*1.08)=RM1,319.99 + shipping cost.

About the price of Dune Max when it came out.... Will check with the person who bought it if he got it at the same price.

How is the Hualu H8? MTK makes good chipsets as well, I believe Oppo uses MTK in HDMI 2 for the Oppo 93.

Check with the seller at Lelong. I tried one mkv file with DTS-HDMA on my HiMedia 900B before and it can bitstream without proble. Maybe I'm not that sensitive though..

The seastar unit plays BDPs and isos, 3D as well. Its cheap and worth testing out. Might ask my brother to be the guinea pig.

Lazada does not mention this but lelong did.

Some more details on the Bevix 8178M.

Calibration wise, it is identical to the Oppo and a test pattern generator if u leave all QDEO settings at default.

Some differences, it only sends out YCbCr 4:4:4. There are no options to use other colour spaces, so if u set likes RGB, u're stuck.

However, all displays will accept YCbCr 4:4:4.

So the good news is that it does not alter the signal compared to a reference set, but u're limited in terms of colour space.

So meaning the best setting will be using default setting?  Right?

If u want unaltered video, yes.

I would like to mess around with the rest of the QDEO settings (especially some of the adaptive contrast and EE to see if it can improve a little for poorer video sources).

Is there an option in the menu to change BD region?

On the Bevix it was an option in the menu.
