Why don't get the 120GB version?
Also if you really want higher performance with cheaper price, do RAID 0, with two cheap SSD.
RAID 0 SSD is always faster than any single SATA 6GB/s SSD.

using y50, single slot hard disk bay...120 too small...so going for 250 lo...if change new laptop can use the same ssd right

Yeah you can, but you don't need high performance SSD, most user don't need either, they makes little difference in performance.
most of the SATA SSD stuck at 6GB/s anyway, but the RAM caching software like Samsung Magician will help.

Most of the newer laptop moved to m.2 SSD iirc, which does not have the 6GB/s cap.

thinking of getting this cause got 5 year warranty....or not might go for mx100 which is best for buck from what i read

The SSD price will just keep dropping, no need for extra long warranty for it, after 10 year 1TB SSD might just cost as cheap as 1TB HDD.
Also if you torrenting on SSD, the SSD maker will not honor the warranty if total write bytes exceed the limited set by them.

hmm...will it still hurt the ssd if i torrent using external hdd?
