hi. i'm considering SSD for my desktop. i know typically ppl will recommend the 120gb ones, but i wanna know if there's any limitations or shortcomings (particularly speed wise) on getting the sub-100gb SSDs?

i plan to use windows 7 64bit, and apart from my operating system, i would probably install graphics/3d modelling software, at most would use about 30gb in total. what would u recommend? any particular brand/model i should get?

my budget is about RM300, but depending on recommendation, i can push up to RM400.

With your budget, you can get a 120GB easy, or does your local store jack up the price so high you can't get it within RM400? shocking.gif

my local store does mark up the price of 120gb to almost RM400. thing is, that extra RM100 can fuel my car for 2 weeks. so i would prefer to not spend that much for an extra space that i dont need. i already have two 1tb HDDs in the PC. so i'm asking for u guys who've used it, do u really need that extra space? or is the 60gb is limited in some ways due to previous technologies?

Since u staying KL, why not just buy online instead? The postage only cost RM6 to your doorstep and allow more choices and price comparisons.
Regarding recommendations quite a few:
Samsung Evo 120gb RM379
Crucial M500 120gb RM359
Plextor M5S 128gb RM359

120gb = 111gb that can be used. OS (20gb) + your software (50gb) will take around 50gb ady. 60gb wont be enough in case later on u need to add more things.

i'm in JB actually. but yes, i am considering buying online. since i cant discuss long and hard with the seller, i ask the other users here instead.

since u get the budget already , just buy 120GB. for 60GB, can used around 50~GB, minus ur OS and apps, 30GB, left with 20GB, some SSD , the performance will be slow if ur SSD is almost full.
last week i want to buy 60GB also, but dont have the model that i want and the price just diff RM100.

RM100 not that much for 2weeks of fuel.
u even paying utility bils more than that for just 1 month. This SSD u will be using at least more than 3years.
RM100 difff for twice capacity? why not?

actually, where i'm living and the way i'm living now, RM100 is a lot. RM100 is indeed 2 weeks worth of fuel for my entire family as i live on campus, where my house door is 7 minutes walk from my office door wink.gif. and utility bill is included in rent (which is RM300).

anyways, thanks for the advise. appreciate it. i'm going for the 120gb.

Look for gigaleon at Taman Johor Jaya. RM$300 for Plextor M5S 128GB.
