QUOTE(horns @ Dec 9 2014, 10:18 PM) lol! yeah i myself am not fond of it also hahaha! still, i think time will tell meanwhile, mlc FTW! thats the only thing preventing me from purchasing the 840 Evo, when i was first hunting for SSDs i saw good speed and software support, but TLC NAND, then endless debate within myself then wanted to opt for 840 Pro, but too pricey (that time was 400+ for 128GB) then in the end, purchased Intel 530 at RM369 PS: wanted to try Corsair Force series but Intel seems more "reliable"

QUOTE(1024kbps @ Dec 10 2014, 09:59 AM) TLC will be the future of large and cheap SSD, i read the article bout it somewhere. also larger SSD has longer life span if the SSD controller and the OS is doing it right. HDD capacity can increase as large as they want as i dont really care, you dont wanna lose 60TB of data at once do you? TLC is the future for consumer SSD but not at the current pricing, i mean, would you get a TLC NAND SSD when its priced the same as other MLC NAND? might as well get the MLC right? at least its proven to have higher endurance

QUOTE(ViralTestUnit @ Dec 25 2014, 12:41 AM) Thinking to grab Samsung 840 EVO, but the problem is my MOBO only supports 3Gb/s sata. It obviously will bottleneck the SSD but from my early research, it will only has significant difference for sequential read/write but not so for random read/write. I'm planning to utilise the SSD for OS (and some programs), which to my understanding usually has pattern of random access with relatively small data transfer sizes. Opinions would be greatly appreciated. speed wise, you wont be using it at full speed (obviously) 3Gbps = 300MB/s? Samsung Evo can reach 500+MB/s but its still faster than standard HDD. HDD's IOPS is also extremely limited compared to SSD. so youll still get the benefits despite the "reduced" speed (able to access cache quicker, load multiple programs at once etc)

tbh, SSD replacing HDD is what everyone wants. but the cost is the main issue
SSD can deal with physical damage more than HDD can. its def suited for being transported around.
but rmb, all mainstreamers are cheapskate. so what fast? i want put more things inside than speed

QUOTE(horns @ Dec 29 2014, 12:36 AM) yes i had a pretty bad experience before. the whole set of data in my external hdd was gone because of my carelessness. luckily i had a complete backup. transcend ssd 370 512gb is now at MYR 689.00. since it's for data storage, it doesn't need to be super performing. edit: let's see if this happens in 2016 and beyond http://www.tweaktown.com/news/42280/expert...yond/index.htmleven the slowest SSD is still faster than average HDD
