Okay, thanks bro for replying. First time buying an expensive laptop. For my brother, not me. Still waiting for reviewsss.
*
i personally saw the laptop myself. for me, i love the all aluminium and thin design. it also uses dual cooling but maybe a little poor compared to standard sizes one.

I am also considering these 2 models - V7 and N550JV. Between the two, which model do all you sifus think is the better one, ie. Build quality, more reliable, better after sales service? I heard Asus and Acer both have poor after sales service and Acer notebook are very problematic. True? And does N550JV have heating problem? I read some reseller saying this in another thread.
*
specs wise, the N550JV is better but the after sales service is poor and the heating problem is true, due to poor ventilation. acer on the other side, have better after sales service than ASUS.

Acer's quality issue is always questioned by most peoples. actually, there is no brand in the world that offers the best laptop. so dont listen to peoples whom say Acer sucks or else.

Oh I see, thanks for your insight. smile.gif Strange but when I spoke to the sales guy at this computer shop, he was totally against Acer and swore that his shop decided to stop selling the Acer brand due to his own experience with its numerous problems, in his 7 years working at this shop. I find that the V7 meets almost all my requirements for a great multimedia notebook (great specs, beautiful IPS FHD screen, pretty good sound), except for its keyboard which is too smooth and shallow. On the other hand, the N550JV has amazing speakers and a nice matt FHD screen, but I'm concerned about its heating problems. Perhaps I should give Acer a try.
*
true about Acer V7's keyboard. it is too shallow, no typing feedback and some flexes but im sure that they are able to 'give the best' to their owners. smile.gif

Why you say RT will be scrapped down?
*
because RT still sucks in terms of apps usability.
if MS dont do anything, it will really fail.

The apps store is getting better day by day. But WRT still cut you off from all the legacy desktop apps.
If you are happy with it, by all means go for it.
Do take note we have not seen launch of new WRT device for some time now. It could be that brands are waiting for W8.1 (will have similar update to WRT), or it could be that brands realise WRT device really can't sell (MS itself has a serious inventory write down in Surface), and will be pushing W8.1+Intel CPU tablet/hybrid from now on.
The Atom Silvermont to be launch later this year seems to have good combo of performance/battery running time for small tablet market, and can run W8.1 proper.
Nvidia, of course, is saying they are working with MS on the next version of Surface smile.gif

and what is SLI? blink.gif  blink.gif
*
yes. the Y510P has an ultra bay for swappable graphics card, HDD bay or DVD-RW. HOWEVER, you can only choose 1 option.

SLI = Scalable Link Interface, one of nvidia's dual graphics technology to combine the powers of both identical graphics card to produce a single output. read here for more.

-any brand
-budget rm4-5k

-any screen size will do

the laptop must withstand 24h, coz im always seeding my torrent, + im mostly playing online games at night
*
are leaving your laptop like a server do? then you might have to find extra cooling solution for it or the lifespan will be lowered due to excess heat produced from prolonged running. its better to find large sized laptops so that internal heat are able to escape. anyway, your suggestions :

Lenovo
Y510p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT750M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080)@RM3999[2.7kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8, red backlit, GN37 exGPU & ODD, 120w+170w psu, 2 yrs

MSI
GE60-2OE, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM4299,8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8, backlit keyboard
GE70-2OE, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM4499,8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8, backlit keyboard

Illegear
RE-15, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GTX765M + (1920x1080;matte)@RM3599[Onkyo], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), FreeDOS [CPU Options: i7-4700MQ - i7-4900MQ]

Need advice.

laptop for adobe illustrator + 3dCAD/CAM + wifi. No gaming but just for work and light internet use ie browsing + emails.

Budget 2-3k. Thanks
*
no specific screen size? then you have more options :

Inspiron 15R, i7-4500U + AMD HD8850M (GDDR5)@RM2449 [2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04 , 6 cell; W8SL@RM2649

Lenovo
Y410p, i7-4700MQ + GT750M(GDDR5)@RM2899, 8GB, 1TB, W8, red backlit, 120w psu, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty
Y510p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT750M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080)@RM3099[2.7kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8, red backlit, swappable ODD, 120w psu, 2 yrs

prices are RRP and negotiable.

Thanks but between Asus's N series and G series, what are the differences?
let say if I compare N550JV and G55VW side by side.
*
N series is a multimedia laptop, while the G series is a gaming laptop. if compared side by side, the G55VW will be thicker compared to N550JV, as gaming laptops need to have better cooling solution to keep away the heat. the G55VW also have stealth black colour, which resembles a fighting jet and more ergonomic design for comfortable gaming experience, compared to a non-ergonomic designed N550JV.

the bigger screen the better biggrin.gif. anyway in terms of reliability which brand would be the better buy. thanks

reliability is the hardest aspect to know among manufacturers. for me, i justify it though the RMA rate and after sales service reputation.
so above the 2 brands, both actually seems quite good.

N series for multimedia and normal gaming, G series for gaming and minor professional works.

Hi guys, need a laptop recommendation

1. Preferred Brand : any
2. Budget :rm2-2.5k
3. Usage: light gaming, programming, compiling software, preferable i7 for faster compile
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: it's ok to be big.
Prefer backlit keyboard, like to work in dark room.
And freedos, can install my own  brows.gif

I have a light and small laptop currently, but compiling software and gaming in that netbook is going to kill me, so I'm thinking to get a performance laptop with limited budget. I had a pc as well but due to my accommodation now, I can't move the pc to my place, so I gotta buy a performance laptop.
*
hi. i seem to know you, you are the one that i had been asking for job positions last time.
anyway, your option is :

Lenovo Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT750M@RM2499, 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS, 120wPSU, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty
Dell Inspiron 14R, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M (GDDR5) @RM2499[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04 , 6 cell; W8SL@RM2699
Dell Inspiron 15R, i7-4500U + AMD HD8850M (GDDR5)@RM2449 [2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04 , 6 cell; W8SL@RM2649

how much is the MSI GS70 now in MY?
Is this model any good? In term of thermal performance, etc.
*
my first thermal review of the GS70 is quite surprisingly good. being a thin desktop replacement laptop, the heat dissipation is good compared to other thin gaming laptops. the GS70 tends to run cooler at the palm rest area, which makes it comfortable for long term gaming. the CPU temperature under stress test is 85C and GPU is 76C.

EDIT - the pricing for GS70 with base specs are RM4699, with best specs RM5499.
