1. Preferred Brand :
Any one that has reliable after-sales service centres
2. Budget : max RM2700
3. Usage : Document processing - MS Word & Excel, surfing WWW
4. Preferred laptop/screen size
11-12 inches (priority is mobility as i need to work on the go)

Extra preferences : Min 4GB memory, 500GB HDD (SSD not important), Intel Core i5 CPU, Win 7 OS, dedicated graphics card

Something like this to give a better idea (reference):
http://www.lazada.com.my/Acer-Aspire-V5-12...er-436454.html#

Lazada prices are cheap, but after I went through the feedback from those who ordered from them before, i would prefer to buy from an honest retailer with a storefront.
*
You can't have the best of everything, not at this size and price range unfortunately sad.gif
Since you don't game, you don't really need a dedicated graphic card, its overkill, and not to mention generate excessive heat.
Can consider this one, its one of the best options out there for a portable working machine~
Almost all notebooks come with W8 already nod.gif

11.6"
Lenovo Yoga 11s, i3-3229Y + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD + (1366x768, IPS touch)@RM2599, 4GB, W8, 2 years; colors: grey/orange

* Price in RRP, negotiable
* Use remaining budget to extend warranty to 3 years

1. Preferred Brand : Any
2. Budget : max RM2000
3. Usage : Surfing internet, mostly document work, occasional coding
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 15.6", or as big as possible

Prefers to have no Windows installed.

Do you think it's worth waiting for more Haswell equipped laptops to come out before buying a laptop? My current laptop is failing quite constantly, but I think it can still hold for about an extra month or so.

Is it worth waiting it out first? Will there be a significant increase in the number of Haswell equipped choices?

Thanks a lot!
*
Buy when you need, wait if you can nod.gif
Haswell notebooks will surely come, and replace all the Ivy Bridge ones currently in the market nod.gif

How about Sony?

Is Hybrid drive good? HDD + mSATA? i enjoy better loading speed and more space storage. Of course will lose to SSD.

Nothing from Sony at that price range unfortunately sad.gif

In terms of speed, SSD > Hybrid > HDD

<2kg might be a bit too much, especially if you are looking for one with a dedicated graphic card
Can consider these, but do take note that ultrabooks/light notebooks with dedicated GPUs will definitely get hot when on load (gaming). Its the law of physics laugh.gif

Hi I'm entering Uni very soon so I'm shopping for a new laptop.
I've rarely used laptop for daily usage since my desktop is enough (HP pavilion p6150d)

1. Any brand will do, as long I get good after sales customer service!!
2. around 3k
3. Uni work + gaming ( dota 2 etc.... )
4. would prefer something 14inch and above

please recommend me some good laptops! biggrin.gif
*
Dell offers the best warranty service because of its next-business-day support, which is very useful for a student who definitely needs his/her laptop all the time
Can consider these:
14"
Dell
Inspiron 14R, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT625M@RM1699[2.33], 4GB, 750GB(5400rpm), Linux; W8SL@RM1999
Inspiron 14R, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT730M@RM2099[2.33kg], 4GB, 750GB(5400rpm), Linux; W8SL@RM2299

if you prefer something much ligher and slimmer:
14"
Dell
Vostro 5460, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT630M + (32GB mSATA SSD + 500GB(5400rpm))@RM2199[1.54kg], 4GB, W8SL, 3 cell

* Price in RRP, negotiable
* Use remaining budget to extend warranty to 3 years (~RM250), this one is a MUST, otherwise no point getting a Dell laugh.gif
* Use remaining budget to upgrade to SSD, that will give you a very significant boost in terms of overall computing experience

Dell doesn't really have a lot of 15 inchers nowadays, but you can consider this if you appreciate a FullHD screen brows.gif
15.6"
Dell
Inspiron 15R, i7-3537U + AMD HD8730M + (1920x1980; anti-glare)@RM3299[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W8SL

The 1st one is more geared towards longer battery life, but weaker performance. The 2nd one is the opposite nod.gif

Again, prices in RRP, negotible
Use remaining budget to extend warranty to 3 years, and also upgrade to SSD thumbup.gif
