I got a situation here. After working for 3 years, the company wants to promote me from Sales Executive to Senior Sales Executive. I didn't expect it. The difference is
Sales Executive can claim OT (3k basic + average RM250 OT ~ RM3250)
If promoted, can't claim OT anymore. How much should I ask for?
I considered myself hardworking, always meet deadlines, creative in solving problem. Should I "lion open big mouth" or just ask for a minimal adjustment (like 5% of 3000 or RM150 only). The new salary will be 3250+150= 3400.
Guys, any of you got experience before?

since you have lost the OT claiming capacity so they should compensate you with other things say, petrol or entertainment fees etc a minimal increment should be expected as well

What kind of sales u doing? I didnt know Sales Exec got OT? Futhermore Sales is not based on your "level".... Junior Sales can make more money than Senior if they got alot of sales...Anyway....tats on commission based...
Are u on commision based?

5% adjustment is very little for a promotion... maybe it's just an upgrade rather than promotion... title upgrade..

Patience is a virtue

If you are asking for RM3.5k you should ask whether if there are other benefits that comes with the new title.

Thanks for your reply.
My job function is more like a "product executive" but since i joined the Sales Department, I was given "Sales Exec" title.
Besides salary increment, there will be NO other perks or benefits like petrol, medical etc. Why? because the whole company only the director & GM got these petrol fees/ company car. Standard medical card is given to all staff. More Annual Leave is not my priority choice because I am still entitled to claim Leave when I work on Sunday/ Holiday. Usually I have more than enough leave.
Thanks dsiew for pointing out that it is only a title upgrade, i agreed. For the past 2 years, my annual salary increment is 5% only.
My Conclusion, I can only ask for 3.4-3.5k only. Hoping that when I jump to another company, carrying a 'senior level' will get me better salary.
More feedback are welcome...........tell me your experience too......thanksss

conclusion: if that job doesn't kill u, even if u dun get the salary, get that position, then change job. what u get is a better resume, better position and better salary for next job.

dun ask for increment for the first 3 months after they promote u bro... work as usual... see what they offer after 3 months... usually promotion does come along with increment in salaries but some company promote u first then after few months seeing u still doing good..only then they will increase ur salary jus my 2 cents thought ^^ This post has been edited by ycinator: May 12 2006, 11:52 AM
