
The Crime Index - a greener color connotes a lower crime rate
Statistical website Numbeo, who maintains the world’s largest database of user-contributed data about cities and countries worldwide, has released its 2013 Crime Index ranking. The indices measure crime and safety in a country by taking into consideration;
1. How an individual perceive the level of crime in their country
2. Change of crime rate in the past three year
3. The safety of walking during daylight
4. The safety of walking during night
5. How worried an individual is of being mugged or robbed
6. How worried an individual is of having a car stolen (or things from the car)
7. How worried an individual is of being physically attacked by strangers
8. How worried an individual is of being insulted or pestered by anybody, while in the street or any other public place
9. How worried an individual is of being subject to a physical attack due to skin colour, ethnic origin or religion
10. The level of problem of people using and dealing drugs
11. The level of problem in property crimes?
12. The level of problem in violent crimes?
The result revealed that, amazingly, the top four countries with lowest crime are those inhabited by people of East Asian descent. On the opposite side, the top three nations with the highest crime rates are all from Latin America. The survey found a pattern in countries with lowest crime; they are mostly from East Asia, Gulf Arab states, Scandinavia and Germanic nations.
