Axiata, SingTel , Telenor to know Myanmar telecoms bid on Thursday

Myanmar, which is offering operating licenses to global telecoms firms for the first time, will announce the outcome of the auction as planned on Thursday despite opposition in parliament.

Myanmar is one of the world's last telecoms frontiers, with only 9 percent of its 60 million people at most having mobile phones. But faced with big investments and uncertain returns, some bidders have dropped out of the auction.

Vodafone Group Plc and China Mobile Ltd have abandoned their joint bid, saying it did not meet their "internal investment criteria."

The remaining short-listed contenders, some of whom have local or foreign partners, are: Singapore Telecommunications, KDDI Corp, Telenor, Digicel, Axiata, Bharti Airtel, MTN, Vietnam's Viettel, Qtel (Ooredoo), Orange and Millicom International Cellular.

Telenor and Qatar Telecom Win Myanmar Licenses

The licenses awarded Thursday are part of Myanmar's efforts to open up its once tightly controlled telecom sector to foreign investment after decades of military rule. Analysts said the process would also serve as a blueprint for tenders of other highly-coveted licenses, including in the oil-and-gas sector.

France Télécom, which joined with Japan's Marubeni Corp for its bid, was named as a backup candidate and would replace Telenor or Qatar Telecom if either failed to meet certain requirements.

The two new licenses, valid for 15 years, are due to be completed by September. Telenor and Qatar Telecom will have to meet population and geographical coverage targets, for example, to ensure that the country's large rural population is covered. The companies also will have to share infrastructure and offer low initial subscription fees.

QUOTE(yok70 @ Jul 2 2013, 06:37 PM)
The share price dropping on M-REIT has been disappointing. Only de-compressed about 10% yield from 4% to 4.5% for major players, which is far from S-REIT's 20% or above de-compression rate to yield of 6+%.
The bad is by looking at historical performance on Bursa listed defensive stocks such as Nestle or Telcos, their yield are also highly compressed. The reason for this probably has something to do with heavy local fund involvement in local market as these huge capital funds are looking to invest in stocks that could provide high cash flow (via dividend), so that they can pay the dividends without much hesitation. There is nowhere else to invest besides these high yield stocks.
In addition to that, some M-REITs are on the growth path, such as Axreit and some retails REITs. For DPU growth of 8-10% pa, the yield de-compression becomes "auto-mode" riding with time factor only. That said, they don't mind just hold it and wait for the fruit. They are not aggressive on return, as there is no competition. We have only one EPF funds, for instance.
As for bond yield rise, FF may leave, but local funds should still stays as they have nowhere to go.
As for interest rate hike on debt payment concern, even if it happens, it won't be aggressive. It's hard to believe rate could rise as much as the REIT's growth rate, say 8% pa for the next 5 years. Besides, many M-REITs has gearing ratio of below  35%, some even below 20%. Besides, some have almost 100% loan with fix rate such as Pavreit and IGBreit.
For all the above, I think it's unlikely to see much deeper correction on M-REIT. However, the sector may overhang for months or so before people getting more comfortable on the fear of QE exit effect.
Just some thoughts.  cool.gif

IOI Properties to distribute 2.162b IOI Corp shares under IPO

IOI Properties Group Bhd, which is seeking a relisting after its demerger from its parent, IOI Corp Bhd, has proposed the distribution of 2.162 billion of its shares held by its parent IOI Corporation Bhd.

According to its draft prospectus posted on the Securities Commission website on Thursday, it said the distribution-in-specie would be on the basis of one IOI Properties share for every three shares held in IOI Corp.

IOI Properties said it would not be raising any funds from the listing exercise as it would not be issuing any new shares.

On its dividend policy, it said its ability to pay dividends or make any other distributions to the shareholders would be based on having profits and excess funds not required to be retained to fund its business.

MWE buying 22.15% stake in KEuro for RM155m

MWE Holdings Bhd is boosting its stake in Kumpulan Europlus Bhd to 27.14% by acquiring 115.40 million shares for RM1.35 each as it seeks exposure to KEuro's projects, especially the 233km West Coast Expressway.

MWE said on Friday it had over the past two days bought 26 million KEuro shares for RM1.14 each via business transactions for a total of RM29.64mil.

Following these acquisitions, it then decided to up the stake by proposing to acquire another 22.15% stake or 115.40 million shares for RM155.79mil or RM1.35 each from Tan Sri Chan Ah Chye @ Chan Chong Yoon and Sze Choon Holdings Sdn Bhd.

Kumpulan Euro, through its 80% owned WestCoast Expressway Sdn Bhd, had on Jan 2, 2013 signed a concession agreement with the government of Malaysia for the West Coast Expressway project.
