Introducing the Xperia Z Ultra from Sony. The world's slimmest smartphone with the world's largest Full HD display*. With a 6.4" screen, big screen entertainment has never looked as clear and defined on-the-go.
Sony's unveiled its latest addition to its Xperia Z series, a new smartphone that blurs the line between smartphone and tablet once more -- the appropriately-named Xperia Z Ultra. Packing a 6.4-inch display that runs at 1080p resolution, it bests other similarly gigantic superphones that all currently hover around 720p. This new screen is paired with Qualcomm's latest and greatest mobile processor, the impressively potent 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800, throwing in 4G LTE connectivity too.
It all weighs in at 212 grams (over 50 grams more than the Xperia Z) but the body has been slimmed down to a mere 6.5mm uniform thickness, jostling with the barely-announced Ascend P6 for title of thinnest phone despite those high-end specifications (and screen dimensions). There's 16GB of built-in storage, 11GB of which is user-accessible, while a microSD slot will add an additional 64GB if needed. To power that screen, Sony has also cranked the battery pack up to 3,000mAh and we're hoping that will be enough for all those high-end components it'll be powering. There's no specifics on LTE bands just yet, but the phone also packs a pentaband HSPA radio, ensuring the global model will play nice on AT&T's 3G service, at least, when it launches later this year.
That HD (1,920 x 1,080) screen is also the first smartphone display to debut Sony's Triluminos tech, promising a wider, richer color gamut and, at 6.4 inches, it offers 60 percent more screen compared to the 5-inch competition. It also has Sony's X-Reality for mobile technology, improving picture reproduction, increasing sharpness. It's all protected by the elements with waterproofing (IP55, IP58 -- an improvement over the water resistance found on previous models). This particular Ultra model also adds handwriting recognition and will work with any graphite pencil, capacitive stylus or metal pen with tip diameter of over 1mm. The phone will launch in the UK with a £21 voucher to use in its movie, music and PlayStation mobile hubs, as well as a month's free access to Music Unlimited.
Like Sony's existing mini-apps, you'll be able to jot down notes and sketches on top of other apps, including during calls, which could make it a tempting device for business-types. Imaging chops come in the form of an 8-megapixel Exmor RS sensor (capable of HDR video and stills) and a front-facing 2-megapixel camera, while the Xperia Z Ultra will be running on Google's very latest Android iteration, 4.2 (Jelly Bean), a step up from what's currently installed on our Xperia Z. It will launch globally from Q3 2013 in white, black and purple and we'll be giving it the hands-on treatment shortly.

is only next week to Q3, july, isnt it? I don't think girl will like this one, because the design language is too manly. When girl compare Z and S4, they prefer S4 over the design while Z is just too fierce....wondering how the market work out on this one. But it is sure sexy one phablet.
need to look how's that battery performance when the device is available. so far I'm happy with my note 2 but if the battery life is similar, Sony can have my money
yep even S4 and One use S600. I wanna see S800 vs Tegra 4
haha dun too happy..next LG Optimus G is using S800 too. And news already reported Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE Advance spotted S800 as well. No doubt Galaxy Note III did the same too

Not really into Tegra unless it is for gaming
+1 Tegra for gaming... lenvono K900 w intel X86 processors yo!

I like how they use same design language in their Z line-up. Especially that wake/sleep button
Anyway it come with sony stamina mode. So i think 3000mah is good enough for a day normal usage
I agreed with you on stamina mode. If it performs similarly as per xperia Z , 3000 mah shouldn't be any issue Of course everyone wants higher battery as much as possible It does look significantly bigger vs mega 6.3 based on hardwarezone photos. But I don't think this will be a pocketable problem with me

"The camera on the back of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra phablet has an 8MP Exmor-RS sensor that can record 1080p video and supports HDR for both stills and movies. There's no LED flash though."
GSMArena said no LED flash. Probably due to pre-production model?
Design superiority aside, the Z Ultra also emerges victorious when it comes to sheer horsepower, with its 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800, which will be melting the benchmark charts very soon. The only disadvantages it has before the other two is the lack of LED flash, and the smaller battery, which, however, is still able to provide above average endurance results, and even record audio playback at 120 uninterrupted hours.
I can live with the 8mp camera but no led flash? What a bummer.its more tablet than phablet if u ask me.plus I lost interest on whats coming after snapdragon s4 pro..this all new processor was like body builder with overdosed streoids but hey, thats just my 2 cents the 3000mAh I think it just cukup2 makan..especially with full hd and 6.4" screen.I owned Xperia z twice..cant tahan the whole day also even with stamina mode on plus if u see the ad,they didnt talk about the battery at all..
make it 6",lots of mAh and good camera would be better I think..
Looks like Sony is gonna take away quite a hefty sum from me this year - first will be the Xperia Tablet Z, then this - the only worthy replacement for Note II.

Some posts I read on G+ were blaming that fruit company for brainwashing people to think that only thin can be good. Anorexia is never good for anybody.

Same here...all the new processor is pretty meaningless unless you play 3D games...and frankly...Android 3D games sucks compares to the PS....wanna play real 3D games, better buy a PS VITA. Even my SGS2 with JellyBean is very smooth and more than good enough for everyday task....calling, whatsapp, sms, surf internet, play music to my car stereo.
Only reason i am looking for a new phone now is size....but i do think 6.4" is really too much...the Samsung Mega 6.3 while still can fit into my hand, i doubt can fit comfortably in my pocket....i dun wanna carry a bag wherever i go just to carry a phone!
Lol..have a look on the back surface..no led flash at all..thats why I said its more tablet than phablet and as for camera on tablet, the quality will always be like at the bottom of the par..like 8mp on Xperia tablet z.. Lots of noises and not sharp at all..
I wonder if you can put a paper on it and write on the phone while writing on the paper. That would be pretty useful I think, for tracing or just simply to write on a better surface, or to keep a copy of what you wrote/drew.
as much as i like it, the size is really overkill laaaaaa
this isnt for everybody, there are people who want big phone like uncle benny, u wan smaller version, get xperia z, u want smaller version with xperia zu spec, wait for honami or myb a rebrand xperia z.
i think it could be a pre production model, that is why no led, but say if really no led flash in the phone, i believe it will has some sort of a detachable flash accessory. watch this video below, pause at 0.27sec, u can see some sort of connector hub.

Itu charging port for the dock la..look at your Xperia tablet z..also got..and a detachable flash? I lol literally.

according to compare picture here .. its not much bigger than mega

OoOOo..finally Sony manage to make an awesome screen on a phone. Damn those colours reproduction looked good.
If, i were to buy this, its gonna be a tablet than also happen to make calls/smses. Its smart that they promote the wireless headset as well...putting this beast next to your head is gonna make you look like an idiot..LOL.
Its a bless for person with big thumb plus once u get used to 6", after that even 4.8" Will make u feel awkward
Really? So we are at that stage now? lol..I have fairly big thumbs but my hands are not that big. I'm struggling to operate my even an xperia S one handed now. Xperia Z is too big for me plus the sharp edges turn me off.
As for the ZU, I consider this a mini tablet and its seriously tempting.

wahhhhhhhhhhhhhh he use ball point pen as the stylus!dem tempting mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
I really like the design of this device, it is coherent with their whole lineup (unlike their previous phones during the Sony Erricson era), and it shows the attention to detail.

well, im a girl & i hate S4 design would trade my less than 1 week XTZ to this if it comes out sooner

Idiot? Nowadays, nope.. Seeing ppl using a 7" tablet as a phone is a no surprise to me. In fact it's surprising how small the iPhone 4 screen feels now, I can't even consider to use it for Web browsing, nowadays.
well, im a girl & i hate S4 design would trade my less than 1 week XTZ to this if it comes out sooner
You got style, but why the selling off XTZ? i would definitely prefer both Honami and XTZ. Dont like the XTZ? The triluminous screen is really impressive by the hands on video...hope to see it in store soon
i can imagine myself using this phone by copying notes on the paper one moment, using the same pen/pencil, jot down notes on the ZU the next moment without any hassle. Another useful thing is i can trace some pics/diagrams and edit it from there.

There's something screaming 'cheap' all over on Samsung's device... dont know how to explain it I do love XTZ, previously i've owned an Asus Fonepad, that 7 inch size is sufficient enough Yep, let's see what Honami will bring us..
Was late to the Xperia Z party so i didnt get it just because my truthful Xperia Ray still works...

I too used to owned a fonepad.
Quite good, but the huge Bazel make it very uncomfortable in my pants. Hope this one are small enough to be carried around.
Lol comparing this design with the note 2? The note 2 was crappily designed, no offence. This looks freaking awesome, and with the specs, and features, it's giving note 3 a run for its money. When you go big, you don't go back! XD
Samsung will find it hard to beat this for those who like gigantic screen. Spec wise Note3 shud be able to compete. Can't wait to compare. This is the Big Fight of 2013.

Design wise just a expanded version of xperia Z nothing special to me To me is still a big slab of rectangular glass The xperia Z design never impress me n so is this XZU. I buy stuff for its features n design is one of bottom last in my priorities

macam over saturated sikit~more like super amoled to my eyes~

at least for me la~as for now smallest for me will be 5",5.7" just the right size and 6" slightly bigger..
IMO, this XZU is one of the first phones to have latest S800 processor and 330 gpu, first to have triluminous display, biggest full hd display (although not the highest ppi), large battery capacity (3000+ mah), but why no led flash?
The only downside is tat 3000mah. How could Sony even place aEven battery size smaller than note 2? Even htc butterfly s with a 5" screen has a 3200mah.

most likely the target consumers are browsing, video and gaming enthusiast..if u watch all the promo video, none of it elaborate more on the camera unlike their others flagship models like xperia z etc~

Why does phone need to be bigger and bigger. Phone stays as phone la
There is always the smaller flagship phone like SG4 and others. Nobody force you to buy big phone. So bugger off ok. Tak suka, beli iPhone. Squint your eyes till blind looking at the small screen.
just for the the dubious(?) distinction of being thinnest, sony has to sacrifice 1) led flash 2) lower cam quality 3) smaller battery. all rather unnecessary if it were only a few mm thicker. that sort of specs will practically rule.

looks like their marketing guys won.
You can carry this in your other pocket...
LOL. But seriously, no LED is a seriously no-no.....
Hardware zone.sg reported phone will be available for sale in Spore in July. Based on a guy who is now at Shanghai attending the launch
great news. One of the news portal also reported that the devices is aiming at South East Asia countries like Singapore and Indonesia coz ppl here like big screen phones, so SEA will get the devices earliest in July. Malaysia was not mentioned but i think we will get this beast in July too.
No flash is a definite bummer..come night time, don't even think of taking pictures..sure blurry one. As an all out full function phone, its a bit lacking in that department. That's why I still think its more suitable as a tablet (aka secondary phone)..at least for me. It would be one hell of a media consumption device...fuhh..gaming and watching movies/videos should be top notch.
looks like you're surrounded by small thumb around you.mine is not that big but typing on 4.3" is pain in the arse.
Lol. Idk what made you come up with that assumption, but average of people around me are 90-100kg. They sure are big. But big phone? Mehh. Biggest phone average person can handle is 5". Even I find it hard to handle Note II using single hand

There won't be anymore in the future, I bet. Flagships are getting bigger and bigger. The only hope lies on Motorola to make one not bigger than 5"
The metal slip for the dock one also use magnetic one wor like apple mac book pro charging port
According the spec, Sony will give interchangeable inserts in the kit make it possible to use this dock with your Xperia Z Ultra with its cover or without.

Even I find it hard to handle Note II using single hand There won't be anymore in the future, I bet. Flagships are getting bigger and bigger. The only hope lies on Motorola to make one not bigger than 5"
lol~put 1 or 2 layer of gloves and then go play with nokia 920 if u want to know hows it feel inside my shoe .the bottomline,5" might be bigger and might be smaller to some of us~ i do think 5" will be the lowest in next 2-3 years

No lar, there will always be smaller versions. I think there will be one under 5" and the others will rangr from 5.5" to 6.4". 7" has proven to big for phone....6.4" is really pushing it, not all people will buy into it...which is why the Note 3 will stay below 6"(it's too big a cash cow for Samsung to risk failure with an unacceptable size..)....Maybe there will be 3 range....below 5", 5.5" to 6" and the 6"-6.5".
Design wise just a expanded version of xperia Z nothing special to me To me is still a big slab of rectangular glass The xperia Z design never impress me n so is this XZU. I buy stuff for its features n design is one of bottom last in my priorities
Well it's all about personal preferences. I would rather carry a device that has more than enough specs and looks great, than a highly spec-ed phone that looks like crap.
too bad no LED flash at camera , this model direct competition of Galaxy Mega ? but Gmega processor only dual core...and Z-ultra is using latest snapdragon.
Yes, only a brief review - satisfactory only , nothing exceptionally great. this is the link Use CHROME browser to view and it will auto translate to English

hmmm could have been great, but without led, theoretical weak battery and lower quality cam, it's not a must have, on paper at least. but anyways still need real use reviews before can draw conclusion
still got the htc one max and note 3 to look forward to. and I cant imagine LG will be left out of this phablet/stylus trend as well.

Lol. But for a wireless headset, that's damn big oso
from the video it's not a headset, more like a tiny walkman stick that can receive calls. very neat
me want! now is this bluetooth handset compatible with anything other than the latest & greatest Z series devices? coz i would like to use this with my older phone

Yeah compatible with multiple devices that supports standard Bluetooth® audio streaming (A2DP). And this handset can also connect to two smartphones or other devices at the same time.

but Xperia Z already RM2299 when available here ??
I expected 2,499 - 2,599
not necessary the bigger, the more expensive. Else the LTE Xperia Tablet Z will be RM3k if calculate like that. Note II is just RM100 more than S3 when launched. So maybe this will be just RM100-200 more than the Xperia Z. This is not a mainstream phone coz not all ppl can accept such a beast.
Just call my site Sony Center, they said from source, July/Aug not really possible, but Sept is confirm appear at Malaysia.
Price wise cannot give yet.
Sept'13 is quite late already as u will see more and more >5" LCD launching soon.... >6" phone wont be hot selling as its too huge to keep inside pocket ....

bigger screen is better , but it is not practical to bring out , and keep inside pocket.... 5" will be alright... phone maker are killing themselves slowly ...
isn't it counter intuitive to always flip open and close that flap when i want to charge the phone?
wouldn't the flap get loose after extended usage? assuming i charge that beast once a day only, its going to get >700 opens and closes in a year.. wouldn't that wear off the rubber / plastic?

flap for water proofing, charging dont use cable, instead using magnetic dock thing like mag safe on apple macbook

Moreover, the camera wise is blow par(13 MP should be for high end phone) and RAM is just standard ( note3 should override 2GB when announce )
To be honest, I hardly use the flash. I notice a lot of people using the flash as a torch light but I don't like that nonsense. I always have my 200 lumens torch light in my pocket in case I need light.

can't agree more. Kinda disappointed with the camera and ram, internal memory of 16Gb also kinda little. Is additional 16GB to make it 32GB really that more costlier?
will grab the 32GB Xperia Tablet Z first before i lay my hand on this. Xperia Ultra + Xperia Tablet Z kinda too over the top. Maybe just keep my Note II and do the Note II + Xperia Tablet Z combo.

I hear the Honami will have an awesome LED as well as 32gb internal memory.

haha...i think you are the minority. I never have friends or acquaintance carry a torch light all the time. On the contrary, we love the led flash as torch light once in a while.
and I use the LED flash more as torch light then camera flash coz i hate the wash out look of the photos with flash.

I think the processor can handle more pixel, 1080p is too easy for it. Probably 1200p only can see it struggle
Yaya.
This phablet is really perfect except one thing - why no LED Flash, I not using it for taking photo as I never like flash, but....... I need flash as torch light during I enter the cinema.

this is true, i do use it a lot when in dark. Another solution is use the screen ! since it so big, why not use it

It's actually quite funny, I see people at the cinema lost in the dark. They'll stand for a while, getting their LED up and then start walking again. Haha.
I don't use the LED for anything, rarely take pictures in complete darkness.

haha... many people use the LED as torch more than taking pic. i'm another one!
few years back when i always travel to other country like bangladesh, power failure happens every single day. since then i really appreciated the LED torch on my SE k750. back then it was like a life saver to me. till now, i still use the LED as torch occasionally and it's indeed very convenient.
and yes, taking photo with the LED flash does make the photo look more washout. avoid it if possible.

Trust me, When you get Xperia tablet Z, you will not stop at Note2 any more. 1080p and 720p is noticeable different especially watching movies. I have switched from Note2 to Xperia Z and end up now with HTC One because of that piece of screen..ha..ha

Try out the Xperia Z at Sony Centre but cannot accept the "small" screen. At normal distance (about 25-30cm from the screen, my eyes can't really tell the difference of the screen PPI. If view at 2 inches distance, then can see the Xperia Z FHD screen still looks crisp and smooth but it is not my normal viewing distance.
Hopefully the yet another Honami will give us some top of range specs - 13mp Exemor R cam, 3GB ram, 32GB internal memory, S800, 3,500mAh battery and water-proof. 5" screen is kinda small, wish for a 5.5-6 inches screen though.
HTC is still in my blacklist, no more HTC for me after Desire HD.

Anything above 5" is phablet territory and it becomes a niche market.
After use Sony product, Xperia Z is my 1st Sony Android device, I just know how great Sony are compare with Samsung.
This Friday will getting my second Sony product - Xperia Tablet Z. Haha! Exact!
Glad to hear that My 2nd android phone was Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo and i still keep it until now. Sold my 1st android evice which is 1st version of Samsung Galaxy Tab 7. Alot my friends who never use Sony and only Samsung don't know how great are they Worst, some don't even know they still exist or using android
Using HTC One now. Waiting Xperia Honami out and see whether it manage attrack me back to Sony side or not

Ya, this is the down side I seen Xperia Z Ultra, Sony shall keep the LED Flash, it won't cost much adding it, also I don't think it affected the slimming body. Huawei P6 is 6.2mm also got LED Flash.

Even HTC also great, stable and better than Samsung, stability wise, Samsung is the last.

I took a stab at a demo unit Xperia Z. The flaps were loose from too much fondling. I believe that is why there are many XZ owners who complain that the water indicators turned red. I feel flaps are not a good way to protect the device due to this weakness.

But I guess they had a reason why the LED wasn't included.
1 word:
ANOREXIA.
Come on they could have put another 0.5mm and another 500mAh battery and a LED with better camera optics.
Thanks for the pic bro....with the pic, I pretty much can consider this as a replacement for my nexus 7....only worry is the 3000mah battery which i afraid not gonna be enough.

seriously will not having flash for camera??! thats a basic need for a camera.. you devise a killer high-end device but simply decide to remove one of the basic need? i would say it is lame.. imagine, you buy an expensive car, luxurious and all, but without power window.

Coz the designer told the engineer to bend over..... designers should have only 10% voting power on product design.

if XZ is too small for you , then forget about HTC1. To be honest, i don't consider HTC, any model before HTC1 as well. HTC1 is really impressive in term of design and sound quality.
To be honest. Upon first look/impression this is definitely the phone to have. Especially those who wants a phablet with the premier feel that comes with it compared to the plasticky Samsung galaxy series (before any Samsung fanboys attack me I'm actually a proud owner of Note 2).
But upon a closer inspection there are 2 main drawbacks as highlighted in the forum earlier :
(1) no led flash. Like Sony seriously? (2) 3000 mh battery capacity seems a little bit. Well. Insufficient for a phone of such magnitude
Apart from that I really think this phone will be galaxy note 3's main competitor.

I hope Samsung don't go bonkers and make the Note 3 6.5" just to show they have a bigger di-ck....
Note should stay under 6"....
Maybe they can make a Mega 2 with 6.5" and high-end specs.

All the "seriously" and "why did they do this" questions are easily answered by the reason that management gave designers full powers and asked the engineers to bend over. That's the real world. Not that we can't b*tch about it.
For the sake of 0.5mm or 1mm they could have easily crammed in a fatter battery, gave us dual LED flashes, maybe better optics, AND FFS to reduce weight lose the glass back come on. I'm 100% sure that incredibly sexy glass back added 20g to the weight purely for aesthetics.

yes, ultimately the marketing ppl win. they should really do a proper survey of what the customers really want, not what the marketing think will be a good selling point. dun understand why some big corporation make those obvious stupid mistake.. ***hint hint*** the big M with their Tingkap 8.
i can forgo the glass back for a plastic back with removable battery any time. Now have a spare battery to swap in and out of my Note II conveniently.
If they put zu as much stronger in every aspects, no one want xperia z ady.
Not true at all Not everyone wants a 6.4 inch phone. This is only for a very limited niche market The upcoming Honami will be an upgrade to current xperia z

Tingkap 8 was designed to FORCE users to change simply to something totally different, just because. And they were willing to lose 1 entire buying cycle from Enterprise customers because they knew the Enterprise will not change.
Now they got forced to bring back some pre-8 features coz many 8 features were ridiculous, and were made to be dumbed down as much as possible.

yaya, cinema is the only time the flash come useful for me, i always bring a powerbank along, so light not a problem for me, but if phone got flash only need few sec to turn on and use, not so hassle need to take out powerbank from bag
though size is much bigger than what i expected, seeing the pictures i can live with that, but the absence of flash... need to think very hard on that...
guess need to wait for honami to come out then only decide...

I think Honami will be bulky due to rumors 22MP and Xenox flash, if this the case, I will pick Z Ultra.
Ya, so LED Flash not really important already, but is still better have.

haha I am not fans of any brand. But I do admit I love Sony because of the physical design on the smartphone and sleek UI. One of the smoothest UI I ever used back to those year. Right now I love Sense 5 UI too in my HTC One because of the simplicity and smooth. Never a huge fans of Touchwiz UI. It bored me quickly just like iOS. Sorry no offence
Same my friends all also talk and drool over Samsung product especially female. They easily get eaten by any marketing and advertisement throw by Samsung.
But I do have friends who from iPhone convert to Xperia Z user and they do agree with me that Sony is great. Seriously, no one will know Sony is great until they really use it themself
I am seriously rooting for Sony this time. Their portfolio for this year is just beautiful.

Agreed with u. People who have used sony then will feel sony quite good for their bucks given. My friends mostly using sony coz of my influence.. And they love it, and start forget Samsung.. Hmm.. Sony is not that bad.. Just might cant accept by everyone. People prefer the fame of product..

I would said Sony is very well balanced in terms of hardware and software. I hardly find any serious bugs in Sony software actually
Ya agree it hardly penetrate people nowdays since Korean seem like a trend now. But sad to see LG and Pantech didn't get much attention at here too. Samsung took all the spotlight.

yeah another thing i really hate those K-fags too (but that's personal & out of topic)
Your female friends drool over Samsung? hmm that's quite new to me i find myself mostly in male dominated industry & it's surprising to see them drooling over S4, even have the nerve to ask me change my trusted Xperia Ray to something else. Apart from Note 1, there's nothing interested me in that brand.
Uncle Benny, this is pre order from Clove. Currency around RM2500
But 1st stock around September
Traditionally clove prices lower than announced retail. In this case is higher by £20. At RM2500 export prices this could mean local prices be around RM 2.2-2.3k range based on previous trends Personally I think maximum price here will not exceed RM 2.4k
lol i think they need slowly dream. They all combined also lose to the oldest Nokia N8
lol~i have to agreed with you~sony's camera phone are over rated~the best will be on sony erricson xperia arc~after that other models like xperia s/ion/tx and even xperia z sucks.(at least for me)

i tot its supposed to be cheaper or at least same rrp with xperia z for the lack of led flash and its 8 mp camera~
yeah another thing i really hate those K-fags too (but that's personal & out of topic)
Your female friends drool over Samsung? hmm that's quite new to me i find myself mostly in male dominated industry & it's surprising to see them drooling over S4, even have the nerve to ask me change my trusted Xperia Ray to something else. Apart from Note 1, there's nothing interested me in that brand.
haha coz most my female friends are blogger and u know Samsung in Malaysia paid those bloggers to be their ambassador So all totally brain washed by them.
I don't mind doing it for Sony, HTC or even HuaWei if only they are as aggressive in engaging blogger as Samsung.

i really wana c whether the new triluminos display can compete with slcd3 on htc one and amoled scree of s4 or iphone 5 screen. i hope it wont have any viewing angle wash out colors anymore.

i asked soya cincau, he said Z Ultra display is most natural compare SLCD and IPS. Din ask about retina display though

would like to see that also.as for now, super ips is on my top list~
Oh..20 megapixel. I really hope they come with a really good camera this time..not just some megapixel boost marketing gimmick. At least give the nokias some competition.
from the pic, looks like the phone will have - single LED flash - single loud speaker at the back - camera lens looks just like any other smartphone (looks from the outside la) - dedicated camera button - same design as XZ
well, to me, this looks more like the rumoured XZ upgrade version than honami

Tablet I use it for different situation. Actually I only use tablet at home, I never bring out tablet one.
You're quite similar to me bro hehe..
Tablet at home / indoor use only while I need the 7" or similar size for the 'on-the-go' use such as GPS navigation placed somewhere around car dashboard area or when riding bike having the phablet attached on the bike. The IP58 is great for bike during rain or shine
And I hope the 6.4" size is big enough for internet browsing, news reading n forum reading such as this comfortably. I am pretty comfortable with Nexus 7 last time, hopefully the lack of 0.6" isn't gonna affect that much. And I hope the battery performance isn't as bad as the Nexus .

Hehe! this is what I prefer also, this 6.4" seems pretty well in size and weight.
Tablet even the Tablet Z still heavy for carrying all time.

Apparently only the 3G version will hit Spore in July . LTE version - no date yet known. Is there a 3G version - I thought it is only LTE . Maybe I missed this info there is also a 3G version

Oh! then I wait LTE.
Sony center here told me also only around Sept can get, Malaysia is release LTE version.

not that heavy, the more i handle tablet Z the more lighter it becomes...too bad it's just ....big. and i'm missing my Asus Fonepad size already (it's on it's way to my sister since i got my XTZ), was my getaway from boredom when at work. dont feel like holding a file with tucked in tablet Z everyday

like me i have already moved on to android but until today i still cant let go of my Nokia King of camera phones. Am been hoping android release a phone camera that at least at par or better. Even HTC One claim their camera is so called ultrapixels its look worse than my Nokia N8
Example this pic until today i can never recapture such quality pic with any android phone

but what about both, like the best in camera & walkman, size just enough (like Xperia Ray) only with higher spec. i love the design of Ray tbh...small & sleek phone great for everyday. phones doesn't need to be slim but big all the time nope, do not suggest iPhone coz i hated the OS & iTunes. sound crap too with my Sony earphones.
Anyway now waiting for Note 3 announcement will decide to get this or note 3.
Love the water proof feature.
The reason I use Note, then Note2 is because of the Spen. I like drawing and photo taking, so both need pen/brush to achieve good result. But now, look like Xperia ZU and Asus Phonepad also support pen input, i don't think i will go /wait for note3 instead. You should try on XperiaZ which allow underwater filming. It is a new experience to me when i had it before. Now i aiming for Xperia ZU because of screen and pen input too. You are a pro in photography , sure you will enjoy something different in photo taking.

I like xperia ray..compact and have all the goodness of the old SONY/ERICSSON midrange device. But..but..for me the iphone has the best stock audio quality out of all the phones i've tried It sounds very clean and flat. For me, thats the only reason to buy/recommend an iphone.

One of the videos showed the ports being covered by a long flap. This will be a potential point of failure if you decide to take a swim. I've read many of the XZ thread posts about people having water leaks despite closed flaps. Even the S4 Active suffered leakage when the guy went swimming, posted in the news yesterday.
Bottom line I'd say just take the "waterproof' thing as an insurance agains splashes rather than full blown dunking.

thanks...perhaps for you the stock EQ in iphone/ipad is sufficient enough while i like playing with custom EQ. maybe there's also iphone apps for that, i'm sorry because i'm not aware of it (due to less incline of asking colleague's iphone & have a look)
if not itunes is such a hassle of transferring files i would consider having them

Yeah, could be a hit and miss if one flap fails, etc. I shower with the phone pretty regularly and so far have no failures yet.
Yeah. Thats speaker looks huge (the grill at least). Its a better speaker placement than the current one on the Z where your palm will be constantly muting it out when you're holding it.
sony is getting some real action this year with their products
yeah... won't
and yes, sony has been real busy this year, rolling out lots of worthy new models, as well as a whole lot of software updates in the pass 2 months. i'd say they are definitely getting into the game!

hmm looking at the latest leaks...why i think the design ni tak berapa menarik? sure this one is Honami? looks slightly 'cheaper' if u know what i mean. but the speaker did show something promising this gotta be loud! me likes

i think its still prototype . Hope the speaker volumn / sound like HTC One
It might be a prototype..but don't expect the end product to be any different in terms of design. It looks to employ the same design philosophy as the ZU with the metal frame with slightly rounded edges, the same magnetic?docking pins and typical sony flaps. I say its pretty legit.
Actually I wonder what is so good about Sony phones?
I previously used Samsung S1, which is a total crap Then I jump to HTC Sensation XE, which is quite good Then to HTC One X, so-so... at least better than S3 in terms of software UI. Then to HTC One, which is wow... unbelievable amazingly incredible phone.

So far haven tried Sony phones yet.
As i mentioned in previous page, no one really know how good Sony is until they use it themself For me it has the best and smoothest animation UI (not anymore with Sense 5 now ). Sleek and beautiful style as well.
My current is still Xperia Ray...i skipped all the latest Sony phones since they dropped Sony Ericsson, was late to the XZ party too..instead i got myself the tablet Z

Samsung S1 is the Worst android phone I have ever used. Even HTC HD2 on android is better. Using this as example to say Samsung doesn't make good phones could be wrong. I gave up wanting to use another Samsung. However it's successor S2 redeem its failures. Try Note2 which I still say is best Samsung phone I have used to date. I won't say is perfect n there is no perfect phone yet but this score highly with me till today

+1 for the Note 2, still one of the best until Note 3.
HTC One the best for phone niche, Note 2 for phablet niche.
but, phone and phablet gonna collide, when 5 incher is not consider as a big screen phone anymore with so many 6 inched around. when screen race come into a threshold, i think the future might be something like google glass.. the "super wide" screen is just a small screen in front of your eye ball, and maybe a device on your palm which will just serve as a "joystick/controller" for the glass.

well, looking at the one of the leak photos of the back view of the device, someone commented that it has a casing on it, which covers and makes the camera lens looks smaller than it is.
i took a closer look at its side, i too notice that i cannot see the side round power button at all. it's been covered as well. and there's like an opening for the flaps to open for the SIM/microsd/usb slot on the side as well. clearly it's been slap with a casing for the photo with the back view of the phone

maybe...just to protect the final identity of this prototype..who knows?

i think so...there's definitely some kind of case used in that pic. as to not fully exposed the final look. they must retain some element of surprise ma.
Just waiting for the announcement now, then wait for release. Gotta go pre-order again at some Sony Centre. Didn't even get my wireless speaker the last time even though I was probably one of the first to buy and fill out the damned form on facebook.
Bah.
Actually, I think this time I'll wait for a roadshow and then get it along with whatever free gift they promise us!

wow cant believe so much hate in youtube comments about this phone and Sony in general
and LOL at the pocket test. if Asus Fonepad can fit my side pocket easily, then this is a no brainer but i'll worry if it will break due to it's thinnest

couple with lack of led flash, lower battery capacity etc, the screen is also not pressure sensitive...so for those who uses stylus a lot on the note/note2, may not be such a straightforward upgrade.

do you have a big hand coz it doesn't seems big at all in your palm. comparing it with my hand holding Note II, it appears it is about half an inch longer only.
opps... looks like i have been "fooled".... anyway, nice mod.

nice spec except for the battery~my full hd 5.7" with 3400mAh barely survived the whole day with single charge~
I read somewhere saying the S800 processor saves more battery, and the triluminos display might somehow is power efficient too? with all these optimization, it might last longer than you expected, by the way they could have squeezed in a 3500mAh battery + LED flash, with the thickness slightly increase to ~7mm, just as thin as the tablet Z
i tried to understand more about triluminos so do a little research bout it. so what i understand so far was that this triluminos is a technology that enables LCD TFT displays to show a wider range of colors, and thus to display images that are richer and more vivid.
So i was wondering since triluminos is a technology and the screen use it still a lcd tft, which is the same as in xperia z, is it possible that this technology can be put into xperia z via firmware update? The TFT displays on the Xperia Z, ZL, and other older devices from Sony have been criticized for their washed out colors and poor viewing angle. see the comparison photo below,
and another thing, the x-reality engine, is an image processing technology that enhances the images and videos displayed on the Xperia Z Ultra. It makes pictures look sharper, reduces noise, improves contrast, and fine tunes saturation.. those who already try the honami mod, and installed the x-reality engine, did u c any significant improvement over the current BraviaEngine2?

well, if the triluminous technology and x-reality engine is purely software based, then yes, it is possible.
but then in the end, still based on whether sony wants to bring over these updates to older phone model. Like i am using Acso S with Bravia engine 1. the recent JB update we receive did not receive the update for Bravia engine2, and also did not receive the batt stamina mode...

From what I know, TFT is the basis for LCD tech, an IPS display is a variant of TFT LCD. So far Sony did not use IPS type screen thus resulting in poor visibility. The ZU however look like using an IPS TFT screen. Triluminos display from what I understand is where they change the normal white LCD backlight to help the LED display to show more colour. So most likely it hardware related.
But the X-Reality is a software which could be/ Has been ported to other devices

The 46- and 55-inch models of the XBR8 series features an RGB LED backlight system which Sony calls Triluminos. The new backlight system is claimed to provide a truer and higher color spectrum and allows this series of televisions to rival plasma displays in terms of dark blacks. This model also marked the debut of Sony's new video processor, the BRAVIA Engine 2 Pro. The display panel uses ten-bit processing and offers the 120 Hz MotionFlow technology.

Yup..Sony is weird. In the latest JB update for Xperia S, Extended Standby Mode was included instead of stamina mode. This Extended Standby mode was given to the Xperia P (2012 midrange) in their ICS update whereby Xperia S (flagship 2012) did not get it then, and only received it in the latest JB update. Now in JB, Whenever, the battery is low, it will prompt with a message to activate Stamina mode, BUT, stamina mode is nowhere to be found
No Bravia 2 as well. When it comes to Sony's firmware update, can rant on forever. lol.

Well maybe they decided base on range. like how they want Xperia S user to upgrade to SP at least or Xperia T Acro S to Xperia V or Xperia ZP
Xperia Go? well we missing MBE 2 but there's no replacement model yet for Xperia Go range Orz...

Xperia S do get a new camera module in JB, V too did not get stamina mode but extended standby, but mobile bravia engine 2 remains, somehow I think T/Tx is still with bravia engine 1. The 2011 lines even being updated to ICS never get the New Sony apps.
Well a lot of Sony app and changes can be install without rooting, and almost all can be ported. From what I see there's a slight reliability as the apps are not optimized, given that they themselves are late in updating their phone, they could not be bother and just give a barebones upgrades.
Mybe they have good reason.either related to technical or marketing. I dont think sony soooo stupid didnt put the flash. Just hand on and judge ur self either its fullfill ur needs or not.npw days people have so many choice, not only sony.
Yeah, tried already. Honami is using the same home launcher as ZU.
Apparently, Sony has contacted devs in XDA to remove all Honami mods. lol Honami camera mod thread gone already.
Why would Sony feel threatened by a mod on XDA? Was any specific reason posted? I speculate it has something to do with "proprietary IP" but I would like to be enlightened.

Probably they give it out for bug checking, not to be leaked out. Might be bad for marketing.

The creator remove the standalone camera port but still at his own ROM thread, maybe the remove had nothing to do with Sony, it just his own preference.

Cant comprehend your statement. then whats the point of a screen protector?
screen protector is kind of useless in my opinion(plastic is soft), the hardness for normal glass is around 6~7 on the mohs scale, while for metals like iron or steel are below 5, so metal cannot scratch normal glass, let alone processed glass like gorilla glass (unless it's hit really hard)

I truly hope Sony remove that stupid Shatter Proof sheet, then I can revert back to my old time habit, NO Screen Protector!

Yeah, but dust, sand, small particles would scratch it though
to be frank, its more like a human physiology. When people think that there are something protect it, they feel safer
I think sony should just remove it alltogether. It creates more confusion to the majority of uniformed sony users who slapped on another screen protector without realizing the existence of the shatter proof sheet.
Some even complained that their screen got easily scratched and thought sony bullshit them saying that their phone screen is scratch proof.

That shatter proof sheet only make people feel even less protection as it scratch easier.
Sony really shall remove that stupid thing, it is the most silly protection manufacture ever put in my opinion. Unless Sony can make a scratch proof shatter proof sheet, or else better don't apply it.
