Lama tak masuk this thread, been a bit busy and actually on holiday for the last 4 weeks. Bliss.

Both PE and G&G are very specialised skillsets and this type of degree/skillsets will have it's pros and cons

Pros

1. Companies who requires these type of skillsets cannot simply take any tom d*** and harry with an engineering or science degree for the PE or G&G position, therefore once you have been selected for an interview or once there is vacancies for these positions, the pool of candidates are not that big

2. Career in PE & G&G are very rewarding. As I have mentioned a lot of times, once you reach a certain years of experience cut-off, your market value goes up exponentially. I have 17 years experience as a Geologist and my market value is currently 1 million ringgit a year. With 15-17 years experience you can command salaries of about 750-1 million ringgit a year (base salary, expat premium, bonuses, share options etc)

Cons

1. Career is very specialised, so if you are interested in management position, forget about it. Very few G&G people can climb the management ladder, most of the technical management ladder is filled with engineering people. In most Operators (Shell, Exxon, PETRONAS etc) most of the managers are Petroleum Engineers.

2. Very difficult to get a position if there are too many of you applying for a limited position. But once you're in and starts building your experience, very very easy to start jumping around other companies or Overseas companies etc.

My motto, do what you like not what you think you're going to earn.

Someone mentioned about CCMS admin to me. I've never heard of it. Anyone care to explain?
