depend what position and department, offshore higher (Petronas principal exploration already 50k++ monthly)....mostly my place retire e been paid RM20K++, ,and they are direct hired...no need interview, straight away call them in...my ex-big boss just join Petronas this year..heard he being paid for RM90k++   ...

This morning dah bergaduh ngan one logging analyst (aku malas nak panggil dia petrophysicist because he has no clue how his data is being used). Asyik cakap my model is wrong because I did not implemet his "knowledge" of net pay (based on PLT) in my static model. Ohh, the porosity is 7% and the Sw is 50% in this well but based on PLT, only 1/3 of the section is contributing .... citer sket kat aku macaman aku nak masukkan dalam model, this "knowledge". The model has no cut-off, I only apply it based on what you tell me (3% porosity or 65% Sw or whatever) but if you yourself cannot give me a straight answer for that particular well, camno nak integrate into the model? And PLT is a dynamic aspect, kita handle masa dynamic model simulation la ... bodo kelu. Mat salleh tak mat salleh ... kena ngan aku gak ... stupid bugger.

Tak pasal pasal blood pressure naik ..... haih, dealing with stupid people is stressful.

I totally agree with your statement that if you know the company underpays you, then it's time to move on. New recruits/expats to my company is also being paid exorbitantly higher than most of us and it's creating some friction. One of the reason that a lot of the existing staff are looking for other opportunities.

Bart, better to stay with SK. U should know why, the are big EPCIC company know. They targeting all market in Malaysia.
Furthermore they have IBD (International Business Dept) to look potential international projects.

Sometimes we need to choose salary might be less, but long term career path is good. Or some of company will paid high, but the project only have 1 and 2. So you think and decide.

ok, as i stated above, i will be graduating next year in material engineering and production management (it's a double major program). i know that it's still early, but i was wondering about the best way to get into OnG industry (especially exploration, drilling, field etc). maybe the chance wont be as big as those who doing mecha, chemi, civil etc, or i'll have to start from bottom, but it doesnt really bother me. as long as i can get onto the right track, i would be really thankful.

So guys, do you have any suggestion? Please please please.

i believe exxon style they have like "false ranking" which to determine who will get good increment from each department, you are good performer, more than 10% should be no problem, some people got up to 15-20%, and from what i know, seldom HR expose the "salary bend" for each level, depend on which CL are you

Data from mudlogging is very limited (you still need them but usually you can't do much other than getting "indications" of something) while Measurement While Drilling (MWD) or Logging While Drilling (LWD) or those logging tools that gives you the accurate petrophysical or logging data that you require and spent millions on the wells for.

...... All this combined with the generally agreed on fact that Masters' holders have less job opportunities than degree holders  (the "overqualified applicant" argument), I think I'll take my chances gaining valuable O&G experience during the 1.5 years, even if it's non-engineering related.
