bro azraeil, mahu tanya sikit lah..
does the experience with consultant really help to join geo-service company? and do geo service companies frequently hire fresh gad with electrical engineering? often heard service company like slb, halli hire fresh grad but its hard to hear fresh grad hiring in geo service company like western geco, cgg veritas..

Hi,

to get into WG,u need to apply through SLB and specify your desired segment. And yes they do hire ppl coming from electrical background. It does not stopping you from doing the surveying work as they will provide an intensive training for it. the training is really helpful, teach you from zero to something smile.gif

My friend got married, when Gumusut is first cut steel at MMHE. Now he got 3 kids yet still no production.
I believe Petronas will never ever built Semi FPS anymore in this region.  tongue.gif

one year delay due to shell usa screwed up the topside gumusut concept design; they underestimated the topside weight that led to redesign of the pontoons. i was in the "thick of things" during feed design; they found it difficult to admit they were wrong. until today. whistling.gif

Guys, I'm an oil and gas virgin, please help me on this. Recently got invited for an interview as graduate engineer. Interviewer are cost/contract engineer, planning engineer. May I know what are the prospect for these position?

how is the career progression? what is the salary range? is it a very stressful/demanding department?

Im from chemical engineering background, already in the workforce for a year plus. Not sure it's a good idea to become graduate engineer again, which they told me is expected to last a year.

Malas nak bertugas ..... just want to go home and sleep. This morning dah bergaduh ngan one logging analyst (aku malas nak panggil dia petrophysicist because he has no clue how his data is being used). Asyik cakap my model is wrong because I did not implemet his "knowledge" of net pay (based on PLT) in my static model. Ohh, the porosity is 7% and the Sw is 50% in this well but based on PLT, only 1/3 of the section is contributing .... citer sket kat aku macaman aku nak masukkan dalam model, this "knowledge". The model has no cut-off, I only apply it based on what you tell me (3% porosity or 65% Sw or whatever) but if you yourself cannot give me a straight answer for that particular well, camno nak integrate into the model? And PLT is a dynamic aspect, kita handle masa dynamic model simulation la ... bodo kelu. Mat salleh tak mat salleh ... kena ngan aku gak ... stupid bugger.

Tak pasal pasal blood pressure naik ..... haih, dealing with stupid people is stressful.

Sabor bro sabor...
More to come after this, coz if you think that guy is stupid, misti ada yg lebih stupid. Uncle Einstein cakap: "two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity".. Tp unsure if Einstein considered everybody with lower IQ than him as stupid.. Haha... One proud thing about Asian is that we are still bound by culture and politeness...

It has nothing to do with IQ, rather with egos. Just because you're a mat salleh's does not mean you know any more than us asians. I usually like to put these people in their places. I put on my professor hat and will explain the process of building the 3D geological model and I will ask the person where he thinks the process is wrong ..... that usually shut them up.

I think Petronas wanted all major types of deep-water production facilities to be built/installed in Msia.

Kikeh is a SPAR, Gumusut a Semi-FPS, Malikai will be a Tension-Leg Platform I heard. I wonder what's next? subsea only?

I don't know but FLNG-like concept seems good. I don't know the economy-mechanism behind it tho'. It is just seems more practical, I think lah.

Hi sifus of OnG industry, i have a cliche' question, i graduated from E & E background 2 years ago, but have been wanting to join OnG industry. What sort of position can/should i try for? i don't mind joining as a trainee. Any good companies? Also, just curios, how much does fresh grad typically earns in OnG industry? Thanks.
