QUOTE(acgerlok7 @ Oct 10 2013, 07:15 PM) If dapat mechanical engineering, do tht bro...i think mech engineer is one of the most versatile discipline in the engineering field... cos when come to think bout it, everything related to mechanics, klau tak da mech engineer, no BMW, no fan, no air cond, no car and of course no petrol also... Yeah...but for science stream only petroleum geoscience is opened...that is why I am wondering whether is it a good bet to move to PG with mechanical base... on a side note, is UTP open for application atm? |

QUOTE(azraeil @ Oct 10 2013, 09:10 PM) Why would UTP not have PE degree? If I am in your position, I would take Mech E or PE (still cannot comprehend why UTP do not have PE degree), I suspect it's not under the science stream but in the engineering faculty. They have but it's already full for both mech e and PE Sorry for the late reply. Currently in Malaysia so have not had the chance to read the thread. So the only choice I got is PG...Really in dilemma whether to stay back in my uni to complete my bachelor in mech e or gö to utp.. |

QUOTE(HeReLiSm @ Oct 11 2013, 05:30 PM) which uni you are in now? I would say nowadays UTP is not really good as per what you'll expected. Environment, facilities and academic staffs, yes they are one of the best, but in term of management, kinda lousy. They are now taking students with lower requirements from SPM and such, due to their need to increase its capacity. UTP now become more profit-driven institute. I believe this is due to Pet is slowly reducing their sponsorship to the UTP. Even the scholarship provided to the even lesser and lesser. I am studying in Universiti Malaysia Pahang(UMP) now which is kinda new Uni,guess you never heard bout it do you ? Students from UTP has higher chance to get into O&G industry upon graduation, that's what I heard and they do offer better education in petroleum related subject. But that's only a small factors that you'll need to consider. Apart from that, UTP is a really great place to study. My second option is to go to INSTEP with my diploma and take 1 year course about petroleum technology. What about this bet ? is it a smart move ? maybe some words of advise from bro azraeil ? |

QUOTE(azraeil @ Dec 2 2013, 07:21 PM) Not really. If you were doing a Physics or any science background, I would say you're okay but if your diploma is Mechanical Engineering, I still cannot understand why they offered you Petroleum Geoscience unless they expact you to start as a freshie (meaning not being able to carry the Mec Engr diploma) Dear azraeil, what would be your advise to me ? |

QUOTE(azraeil @ Dec 4 2013, 02:10 PM) If you have no other choice and are willing to start fresh. Go for it. The prospect for a career as a Geologist is bright. You can also contribute to the team since you do have some background in Mech Engineering so people can't BS you that much when they talk about Facilities. Dear azraeil, actually my second choice is continue doing my degree in pure mechanical engineering in my former university. Do you think I'll have bright career prospect as well in future being a mechanical engineer in OnG industry ? |

QUOTE(stupidbo @ Dec 6 2013, 01:48 PM) if your intention is to join the E&P, a "rojak" academic background(mecha+geoscience) will definitely helps you in later years to come.you can easily integrate what you learnt in the past with what you currently working on if you are involved in field development project. if you intended to pursue pure mechanical engineering course, definitely this will opens up more chances for you to join the O&G as mechanical engineering is a very versatile degree. relatively, a geoscience background might lack in versatility if compare to a mecha background.but at the end, who has the highest probability to have the highest earning power?? Great opinion.thank you so much..erm does petroleum geologist gets to work 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off like people who work offshore ? PS:many people likes to eat rojak...rojak is the best QUOTE(lifeisgoood @ Dec 8 2013, 08:27 PM) What about FS ? i heard the pay is big too, especially their allowance? i guess both FE and FS has its own Pros ? Actually what is FS and FE ? |
