If you impress the bosses, the most you can get is a higher increment and maybe a faster promotion but your worth will only be seen in that company, those who works hard all the time and have a good attitude in taking new challenges would have gained the experiences and will be more valuable as his/her time in the industry increase. Other companies will value him more and will pay a good ransom to poach him away. You cannot cheat your way thorugh the industry. Other people or other companies will know your experience levels.
*
Agreed! Its the working attitude and the experience counts!

This will be my 16th year in the industry.

I'm in my 21st year in the industry, just barely managed to hit the RMhalf million pa mark. Never work overseas before, but sometimes I wonder how much I'm worth overthere....... whistling.gif

Probably around the same mark as me definitely. If you are a geologist, if you look at AAPG salary survey, you should be looking at USD150-200k average total compensation.

No, moving to one of the biggest Independent oil company in its region. It was an upward promotion (in terms of salary and also in terms of position), it's a smaller company as compared to where I am now and my models would make better and faster impact. So basically moving from a VLCC to a more nimble Luxury Yatch  blush.gif

I always have a principle that you only move when the package is 30-40% higher than what you are currently getting ... anyway, need to do medical and employment visa first. Once that is done, then it's a done deal.

Ramadhan here is long, breaking fast is at 6:30PM so not too bad but sahur is at 2:30AM because Subuh is at 3:20AM so you get really groggy in the morning because trying to wake up after sahur and subuh is not easy. Office hour is from 7AM to 1Pm so the wife is happy as I get to help her in the kitchen while she's preparing the buka puasa menu.
*
The company you are working right now is also the largest in its category, kan? Guess I have to google what does independent oil comp means..hehe.

Are you moving to the other side of the world, bro Azraeil? Or still in the same region, different country?

Wahh.. working hours during ramadhan there is sooo nice! I bet it's still not too late to wish you & your family Salam Ramadhan smile.gif

It's quite something to hear that from someone like you. I've only been in the industry slightly over a year, worked hard like a dog and in the short time approached by a few companies. Just that part of me tells me to have a sense of loyalty and stay on, but we all know end of the day the company just wants to make money and does not reward those loyal.

Petrophysicist is one of the rare skills in PE so once you get your required experience level, you'd be in demand like hot cakes. Get as much experience as possible and learn from the seniors as much as you can.

The company expects loyalty from you but they are never loyal to you. So end of the day, you should only be loyal to yourself and your family. It doesn't look good however if in your CV, people see that you jump company every year, so you need to have the correct window to look like a loyal staff (3-4 years per company is acceptable). It's all in the luck of getting the right opportunity at the right time.

it's hassle for some employers to get experienced, hands on, certain skill set and knowledgeable worker, understand of others work style, used to company working environment.. So they prefer to retain the employee (who would like to resign).. So the best solution is by counter offer 30-40% from new offer.. If new salary offer is about 40%, and counter offer is 30%.. your new salary is actually about 80% higher than the old salary.. brows.gif

I'm always looking for 30-40% min adjustment to jump... icon_rolleyes.gif

Most Petrophysicist are considered an engineer. You will definitely need field experience and also some offshore assignment to see the logging tools used and also understand the logging runs.

Again bro, an inspirational one!
Totally agree that we should be loyal, especially to only Allah that blesses us with the rizk.
