Hi people, I'm new here...

I have a 1 year-old male cat, which most of the time being taken care by my little sister. BTW, today I noticed that he's strange in sense of wanting me to cuddle him. He won't let me go have lunch. I "think", it's a sign of horniness. But then, he's got nobody to play with since morning, so he's a little lonely. Can that be depression?

So the question is: horny or depressed or something else?

Please advise.

I'm neither a vet nor a psychologist but I'll give my opinion. First of all, I would like to ask,

1) Is he strictly a house cat, meaning that he's never been outside before?
2) Is he the only cat in the house?
3) Does he never have contact with other cats?

If the answer is yes, then probably it's a sign that he's lonely/depressed/just need more attention from you or probably what he needs is another companion from his own kind. smile.gif  Try experimenting a bit for example try bring in your friend's cat just to see his reaction.

As for cats getting horny, from my experience  the first sign that you can see is that your cat started to 'mark his territory'. After that he will regularly do the unusual 'meow' sound, more like 'mauuuw' sound. This only applies to male cats only. If you've seen documentaries about lions or cats mating, it's almost the same. You get the idea. smile.gif

Thanks for your reply.

1) He's been at the frontyard and the backyard of the house, but never been outside of our house.
2) There are other 2; all males.
3) Yes he has contact with other cats, but only males.

Well, I realized that he purrs, which I never heard before.

I was hoping not. But I see he likes to play with the other male cat in a really disturbing way, which is "playing the back".

Please tell me that's normal if 2 male cats live with each other...

As far as I know, there are no Gay or Lesbian or Bi in pets/animals.

Those are purely human behaviour, not pets/animals.

I'm so relieved to hear this smile.gif

But I think that cat is normal by now, not purring whatsoever in a disturbing way sweat.gif

I mentioned I have 2 cats; one is the cat I described previously.

But there's another male cat too, which is very shy to come into the house. It only approaches the front door when hungry. But no one ever touched or cuddled or played with him. He's always hiding under the car or at the garden.

How do I get to play with the kitty?

Is he once a stray cat? If so I suggest that everytime when you bring some food to him, maybe you could stay with him while he's eating and while he's at it, always touch him and try to communicate with him a bit. It probably needs time and patience to get his trust because he maybe have some bad experience with humans before.

Using fluffy things is also a good idea. Maybe you could make something like a short fishing pole except that the bait is that fluffy thingy and try to lure him out from his hiding place. After that you just play with him like that, no need to grab or cuddle him because he may feel uncomfortable. Oh yeah, forgot to mention, while playing with him try to intentionally put the bait near you once in a whle. Maybe that way it can reduce his shyness to people.

Thanks for your suggestion. The kitty won't even eat if I look at him, and will run away if I am like 5 meters near to him. He used to be a stray cat, but then he was still very little.

I could use the fluffy things.

Ten cats? WoW! I think I am the only one with the lowest number of cat here...

Found it early this year. One of them is brought back from my brother's friend's house. The other one was found in the house. And the other one is a "traveler cat" who always stray to neighbour's house and back to our house after 3-4 days.

My cats. The orange one is the one with "gay" issues, and the grey one is shy hiding under the car.

Yeah the orange one is very playful. And he's big. Does a one-year old cat should be that big? The grey one is near one year old, but he's not as big as the orange one.

@abang brother,
Congratulations. Looking forward to look at the pics of the new kitty.
