Hi people, I'm new here...

I have a 1 year-old male cat, which most of the time being taken care by my little sister. BTW, today I noticed that he's strange in sense of wanting me to cuddle him. He won't let me go have lunch. I "think", it's a sign of horniness. But then, he's got nobody to play with since morning, so he's a little lonely. Can that be depression?

So the question is: horny or depressed or something else?

Please advise.

I'm neither a vet nor a psychologist but I'll give my opinion. First of all, I would like to ask,

1) Is he strictly a house cat, meaning that he's never been outside before?
2) Is he the only cat in the house?
3) Does he never have contact with other cats?

If the answer is yes, then probably it's a sign that he's lonely/depressed/just need more attention from you or probably what he needs is another companion from his own kind. smile.gif Try experimenting a bit for example try bring in your friend's cat just to see his reaction.

As for cats getting horny, from my experience the first sign that you can see is that your cat started to 'mark his territory'. After that he will regularly do the unusual 'meow' sound, more like 'mauuuw' sound. This only applies to male cats only. If you've seen documentaries about lions or cats mating, it's almost the same. You get the idea. smile.gif

I mentioned I have 2 cats; one is the cat I described previously.

But there's another male cat too, which is very shy to come into the house. It only approaches the front door when hungry. But no one ever touched or cuddled or played with him. He's always hiding under the car or at the garden.

How do I get to play with the kitty?
*
Is he once a stray cat? If so I suggest that everytime when you bring some food to him, maybe you could stay with him while he's eating and while he's at it, always touch him and try to communicate with him a bit. It probably needs time and patience to get his trust because he maybe have some bad experience with humans before.

Using fluffy things is also a good idea. Maybe you could make something like a short fishing pole except that the bait is that fluffy thingy and try to lure him out from his hiding place. After that you just play with him like that, no need to grab or cuddle him because he may feel uncomfortable. Oh yeah, forgot to mention, while playing with him try to intentionally put the bait near you once in a whle. Maybe that way it can reduce his shyness to people.

Thanks for your suggestion. The kitty won't even eat if I look at him, and will run away if I am like 5 meters near to him. He used to be a stray cat, but then he was still very little.

I could use the fluffy things.

Kittens are like kids you know, once they've got a traumatic experience they'll remembered it for a long time. sad.gif

Good luck with the fluffy things. By the way where/when do you found the cat?

Back in my hometown strays always come to my house from since when we're living at the govt quarters to my present home. Some of them ended up to be part of the family and now there's roughly about almost ten cats in the house. My mom loves em all.

Ten cats? WoW! I think I am the only one with the lowest number of cat here...

Found it early this year. One of them is brought back from my brother's friend's house. The other one was found in the house. And the other one is a "traveler cat" who always stray to neighbour's house and back to our house after 3-4 days.

As far as I can remember, while we're staying at the govt quarters it started out like one, stray female cat. After that it gave birth to a couple more and more of them came to my house. As years go by some of them dissappeared without a trace, died during birth (along with the babies), killed by accidents, poisoning and by other cats. At the same time new cats come to pay a visit and make my house theirs too.

When we moved to our new home, we bring the surviving 4 cats. The mother, which have the colour pattern of an african wild dog and two of her children. And then the same thing happen, cats come and go and make my home theirs. I think it's weird because other neighbouring houses doesn't have so much cats.

Last week when I go back to my house to visit my parents, some of them already grown up and the new alpha-female cat is pregnant blink.gif. My favourite one is a white, very short tailed female cat with blue & green eyes. She loves to sit and play on people's lap. The other one is a yellow/white male cat which loves to hop & nudge his head on people's chin. dunno why he acted like that.

Oh yes, if the fluffy thing method fails, the last resort is try to grab the cat, put it into a large cage and put it inside the house preferably put it at a place where people always be able to see him. Don't forget to make it comfortable for the cat. Sounds rough, a bit cruel I think but If you want to be able to hold him, he need to get used to human presence. Afterall he still young and it easier to teach the young compared to the old. Then again this is just a suggestion and you decide what's best to your beloved cat. smile.gif

Yeah the orange one is very playful. And he's big. Does a one-year old cat should be that big? The grey one is near one year old, but he's not as big as the orange one.

@abang brother,
Congratulations. Looking forward to look at the pics of the new kitty.

Probably depends on his genes smile.gif . If they're active and healthy I think you shouldn't be worry. if you seen them eating grass or some sort of vegetation also don't worry. They probably trying to cure themselves from perhaps, indigestion.
