the review for nikon D7100 is quite good for birding as it has additional 1.3 crop factor over the readily 1.5 crop factor of nikon APS-C body. Therefore u will get extra zoom power using a telezoom lens.
for example for 200mm lens, u will get 350mm zoom (compare to fullframe) in the normal 1.5 crop factor. in the extra mode u will get the equivalent of 455mm zoom of the fullframe using the same lens. therefore u will get extra zooming power for free. which is very good for birding.

For me, the function isn't anything to shout about. If you wan to get the crop factor, you can simply get a Nikon 1 and mount a Nikon FF tele lens with adapter. there you get, even more crop than the d7100.

You can always crop a factor in computer, the crop function of the d7100 is basically cropping the picture in camera.

good camera with 24-200mm f2.8 zoom, but i don't think that would be enough for birding. I tried capturing bird pics like 2m or 3m (getting closer would scare them away) from them using 200mm on my 1.6x crop body and i still need to crop in computer to get the perfect composition.
