Hi all sifus here. I'm interested to get the 1.6L cerato and in fact I'm planning to book it on this coming weekend. When I tell my parents, friends, colleague about it, the only reaction I've got is

1. Why you buy korean car? Why not altis, civic, bla bla bla
2. Do you know the RV is very sucks?
3. Service maintenance very expensive compare to jap car
4. FC sure very high one

When I compare apple to apple with other C-segment car, I've found out that cerato actually worth every single cent that you've paid especially right now they have the great merdeka sales.

So, my question is how do you guys make decision when you bought the car? What influence you to make decision to buy it?

Maybe the questions have been answered earlier. Apology in advance if i ask the same old question.

No worries man as this is what a discussion group is for really. I'm sure everyone has their reasons, but well, here's my take on your questions as I asked the same when I was thinking of which car to get:

1) Value for money, bang for the buck. I tested the Honda Civic. Love it, but it just feels plastic and you really are not getting what you paid for. Safety wise, K3 is leaps and bounds ahead, and you get a whole lot more metal for that price (hence the weight). The only thing that the Civic had as far as I was concerned was the much better implemented gearbox. The Altis, 3/3 gave me the same reaction. Throwback to the 70s, wrapped in a 21st century shell.

2) Yes, but hopefully that will change.

3) Maintenance for any boutique brand car (or what I would classify as a car company/manufacturer that does not move a lot of product in the country in question) will always be higher somewhat compared to mainstream brands. For Korean cars, due to their high dependence on sensors, the cost will go up slightly for replacement of these sensors should they fail, and it does take a person with good knowledge of the car to troubleshoot these sensor problems (hence the higher manpower cost associated with the activity)

4) In so far, the FC is pretty decent depending on how you drive. My average currently after sorting out all my issues is about 570 KM/tank, giving me nearly 13 days between visits to the pump. Driving style 50/50 city/highway.
I think the real issue is only no.3 (at least from my personal experience).

Hi bro, thanks for your sincere comment on this. Really appreciated it. Talked to one of my friend who's driving Elantra and I'm now convinced to get a car that I like, which is the Cerato thumbup.gif

Dont want to pay for something which I dont really like. Now, the 2.0L seems tempting but out of budget, guess I will be still going for the 1.6L despite i love ventilated seat very much. Every single cent counts.

What's your view on 2.0L vs 1.6L?

Depending on your budget. do test out 1.6 and 2.0 personally.

my initial plans was to get the 2.0...however, after my test drives...i do find 1.6 kinda powerful enough for me (i dont speed or drive aggresively)

so again, it depends on personal preferences, diff of close to RM20k ...is a lot of money smile.gif

Hope it helps.

I've tried the 1.6L already and it looks quite good for day to day use. yea, 20k is a lot of money.
Guess the 1.6L serves well enough for city use. I'm staying in a very jam area, so higher cc means higher fuel consumption hmm.gif

thanks again bro and hopefully can bring back this baby by end of month and put a big malaysia flag there to celebrate the national day. rclxms.gif

Mine is a 1.6. I fancied the 2.0, but a few things put me off:

1) The higher price tag

2) Sunroof. To quote PaulTan, we are in Malaysia. It's hot here! Jokes aside, I'm not so confident of the Koreans having sorted out the sealing and mechanism for the sunroof properly so it was more of a liability than a feature.

3) Higher insurance and roadtax (RM90 vs RM300++)
Beyond that, if you are a lone driver or with another person most of the time, I think a 1.6 is more than sufficient. 2.0 would be a nice to have. I don't have the FC numbers for the 2.0 though so I can't comment on the actual fuel consumption of that mill.

Rather to save that 20k and use it to get a good tint, install a PPF (to protect the front side of your car against stone chips etc) and get some leather seat in stalled. Just my 2 cents really biggrin.gif
*
I'm having the same thought as well. Sunroof is pretty useless here. I enjoy the sun almost everyday by riding the bike. shocking.gif

Insurance and road tax are the most concerning one as well. Should be getting the 1.6L. Once I get it then will register myself as the official owner in LYN. tongue.gif

Yeah I think we've got enough sun on a daily basis. Not to mention the heavier equipment required to support the sunroof and all that. Not to mention the rubber seals that could harden over time and it's harder to wax up the car (hard enough as it is even with a stool).

Do check out a PPF as well. It's a bit pricy but worth it. I'm using xPel Extreme and it's taken a lot of beating for my car already. The car next to me which is black, has so many stone chips that it looked like it just got out of Afghanistan tongue.gif

What is PPF by the way hmm.gif

Natural occurrence especially in colder/ raining weather like what we were experiencing yesterday.  It is call condensation. Water vapor will form on the cold surface when the surrounding air is warmer.
*
It not supposed to happen at the head lamp area as it's sealed. So, the only explanation is the seal is not good. Could be due to misalignment of the rubber seal or any other factor. Will continue to observe it and escalate to SC if it doesnt go away.

If seal is not good or leaking you will most probably see water contain at the bottom of the head light instead of water vapor. Some do experienced this in new car but it will go away and without recurring after that. If problem persist even during warm weather then I suggest u get it change with a new set since it is cover under the warranty. Go to the nearest SC and let them have a look. Without doubt they will be able to fix it quite easily.  biggrin.gif

Thanks for the suggestion, I will continue to observe it for a while.

I think i have sent a request to this group. havent approve by the moderator i guess.

My suggestion for this is that you take a photo of the condensation when it is there, and when it is not as evidence. They've been known to not bother to look into issues that cannot be easily reproduced.
*
thanks, i have been taking photo all this while to prove it.

QUOTE(mxyzptlk @ Aug 26 2014, 06:00 PM)
hi all, i just booked k3 1.6 and got loan approved, this is my 1st time buying a car and hope any sifu here can help me with some questions.

1) the sale agent ask me to sign hire purchase agreement and loan agreement asap, should i or can i see the car 1st before i sign anything?

2) anything i should pay attention to through out the whole process?
Thanks
*
Bro, i just bought it last week. Let me share some of my experience.
1. Once you booked the car, the SA will place order in his system. Before I signed the loan agreement, the SA already gave me the chasis number of my car, however, i can't view it because it's still in Gurun. The car is now locked down with your name. I am not sure if you can see the car, maybe others can tell you more. Loan agreement basically is between you and the bank. It's about how much loan u need to get from the bank for your car. Once the loan agreement is signed, the bank can reimburse the remaining balance to the car dealer such that they can proceed for JPJ registration + insurance.

2. Before you accepting the car (after signed the loan and JPJ registration), the car dealer will issue a Delivery Order to you. This is where you need to be extra cautious. Check the car inside out, upside down, left right, 360 degree, test all features kao kao, check viper, signal, seats, radio, car body, tyre, everything basically before you SIGN the DO. Any issue discovered, please voice out immediately and ask for fixes. Dont sign if you not happy with the car. My car comes with some small dented spot, most probably due to small rock hit on it during transportation time. SA offered me to fix the dented spot after accepting the car. I make a big remark in the DO to make sure they fix for me. However, I changed my mind and prefer not to fix it because it's just cosmetic and the workshop is damn far from my house. At the end, the SA compensates some money for those dented spots.

Also make sure your chasis number, engine number, road tax, insurance comes with the correct details. a minor spelling mistake in your name or address cannot be accepted. Insists them to redo if you spot any mistake.

Maybe some other sifus can add in more if needed. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(LordAlonsoV1 @ Jan 21 2015, 11:39 PM)
Hi.. Actually I'm new here and will have my Cerato KX next week. Should I read all the comments regarding my next car, I found out few positive and negative points from members. I do research a lot before i make decision to buy iot feel satisfy without any hesitation. Many would compare to City V Spec, Vios, Mazda3 bla bla bla.. I would like to highlight few things from my view and experiences also from my expectation earlier.
1. KX reduces 10k from its predecessor with removing some kind of what most people think is important esp Safety Measure and fancy stuffs. To me, it is fair to Kia to remove all the devices and accessories as long as it didn't revise the main engine/system. Light, visor, memory seat, paddle shift l, auto climate etc to me is enough, so more people would afford to buy it. But, I'm a bit disappoint of the removal of paddle shift and auto dim rear mirror. But still not affect my interest on that particular car.
2. I drove Preve 1.6 (not CFE) before, i experience the same thing, comparing to the premium version (K3 here). Without ESP and TCS, also Turbocharger, still i can manage to drive comfortly, carrying my parents, in laws and siblings, so they can have a good rest while travelling. Still I can reach 200km/h (on few occassion) without having some major problem or faultness.
3. FC is also the main topic to be argue by members. Why mad when u drive this kind of car mostly in the city? Me personally have reached 5.6l/km at highway for 400km distance, cruising 90-110, and driving on the slipstream. Driver have the special bond with the car, can feel whether is consume too much gas or not, knows that the car is a bit heavy compare to the smaller power inside. Go buy K-car instead of this.
4. RV - am not experiencing any of this since i've targeted a long term use.
5. After sales service - first time own a foreign car. Cant say too much. Later post.
I know some other people are like me, still searching the best option to buy a stylish sedan. But to me this KX with this price and also huge discount, u should get one. IMHO, if u're looking for speed with full safety devices, and have more money, go buy Lancer/Ferrari/Maserati/Audi or other car instead. This car is for one who have a mid family cant afford too much or have a lil monetary constraints,  often travel long distance and looking to upgrade the comfort and style and experience, I would not hesitate to recommend this car. Go to showroom immediately, this week of cos, have a look, and place order before it ran out of stock (discounted one).
With regards, peace.

+1 for you bro. welcome to the club rclxms.gif rclxms.gif
I also think and make a lot of analysis like you before going for this car. so far, no regret though
