Hi all,

I just bought a Kia Cerato K3 1.6 today!
Incredibly excited! Picking car up sometime next week!

I just have a few questions about the car in general.

1) I saw a number of complaints about car battery. Is it because of too many functions in the car? If you have issues can you post your experience?
Lastly, any ideas or suggestions to save battery like turning off certain unnecessary functions etc.

2) Is the car battery issue only plaguing 2013 and 2014 Cerato's only?

2) I found a really nice bodykit called M&S. Is it recommended to add in bodykit because I saw someone mentioning it falling off after awhile.

Cheers! thumbup.gif

Congrats on your purchase. Wise choice indeed smile.gif

I think the battery issue is coming to a head as K3 starts to reach the 2 year mark in their lifespan. The issue plagues both 2013 and 2014 models, and I was concerned about it as well. Hence I had my battery checked during a recent service and got some inputs from the tech guys.

Basically as long you drive the car all the time, with some decent driving between starting and turning it off, the battery should last quite a while. During my 20K check, the battery was still relatively healthy. I do approx 40 -50 minutes of driving daily.

Just abit worried the battery is "conspiracy theory" made to die out at approx 20,000km so you have to pay Rm500+ for new one.

No. 1 is a bit worrying as it seems to be a very common problem and finding odd sounds can be tough.  If SC cannot find the source I'm prepared to spend some money for outside help to eliminate it. Just a matter of interest my 10 year old CBU Optima still give me a quiet cabin when driving. Very impressed with the quality.

CBU vs CKD... what u're expected...

Congratulations on selecting Kia Cerato. The cost for replacement battery is relatively cheap....compared to the price of the car. Hence don't let this issue control you on enjoying the many features and highly spec-ed car to the fullest. For instance, you may prolong your battery life if you skim on listening to the radio, watch less movies on DVD, do not turn on the lights until it is really dark, set the wiper speed to the bare minimum etc.... but is it really worth it doing all that? Just my 2 cents. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Guys, can you roughly tell me, especially those who are i driving the 1.6 and mainly in town drive, how much does a full tank bring you.. i'm kinda caught in between the KX and the full spec city to be honest.. both have their pros and cons...but i think if i were to say looks and comfort, the KX is a better car but safety wise, minimum would be the K3...so I'm looking at the final verdict which is on how thirsty the 1.6 lump is.. coz i know the 2.0 drinks (speaking from the experience of a forte owner).. anyone care to shed some light?

i did read through the pages and if i'm not wrong, some of you guys are clocking around 350-370km per full tank? My drive would be mainly in penang island and sometimes a mix of long distance driving.

Yes, 350-370km is about right for 100% city driving. If really driven smoothly and light footed..and maybe not much traffic jam on that particular week u might get 400-420km.. that's my K3 did.

I'm from Penang too! tongue.gif

Heard turning off the 'Welcome Home' or 'Follow me home' light will help save the battery. smile.gif hope this help.

I think Perror is right... as long as you use the car daily or frequently it should be fine. As with most batteries, it needs to be recharged too.

Thanks guys for feedback!

Also, one last thing.

I forgot to ask sales guy if the car has an immobiliser installed?

Thanks in advance!

To relate my experience as a Kia Optima owner for 10 years I must say that I never have to wait for any parts whether wear and tear parts, accident parts or cosmetic parts. I don't know about other models but I doubt the spare parts situation will be tight for a CKD car. There are many independent spare parts suppliers for Korean cars in the market so the availability of parts is not dependent on Naza.

it depends actually what parts we are talking about..usually the parts involved doesn't cause th ebreakdown to be as bad to the extent its undrivable..but i have had the brake switch replacement wait for a few weeks...the longest so far was i think the steering rack assembly claim..that one took a month or so...but nothing as absurd as 3-4 months..

I would say go for the Cerato KX. The City is capable but a 'kosong' car compared to the KX. Don't worry so much about the fuel consumption. Korean cars may consume a little more because they are heavier but you get more safety in a stronger body. If you can buy the car you can afford the small difference in petrol if at all.

If you browse back there is one owner who compared her Cerato 1.6 with City and the Cerato came out favourably. It needs some patience to browse back but the graphic in that post is easy to spot.

thanks bro, i did consider changing cars a few years back but after i did a test drive with the cx5 and altis, i decided to stick back to the forte coz they feel almost the same and those are priced much higher... i think there are way too many pages for this thread hence it may be difficult to scroll lol...but i will try.. thanks bro =)

Hi keagan, just wondering why did you change the steering rack assembly? Was it because of noise?
