It depends what build you want to go for lol.

If you want to do it the fastest on one base, you will need your first gas after barracks, the second gas after factory is started.
If you want to do it after an expansion (Reaper Expand), you will need the second gas about after the factory is started.

It's a hands on thing like many other games and arts. It's nothing as simple as just being 'faster'

Then tell him that his words aren't helping you to be faster. Ask him to be clearer and help you. It's not like you don't want to learn anyway. ;o
