Actually we are at the plateau sort of phase like laptops/notebooks were 3-5years ago. Anything else you want to add is largely incremental.

Samsung slammed with downgrades as Galaxy S4 ‘marketing charm’ fades
http://bgr.com/2013/06/17/samsung-galaxy-s4-sales-estimate/

The issue is that the market for high-end smartphones such as the Galaxy S4 and the iPhone 5 seems to have for now hit a plateau while the action has moved more toward low or mid-tier devices that are affordable for consumers in emerging markets.

"I am not sure why people still use screen protectors on today's high end devices especially phones like the Galaxy Note II with the enhanced toughened glass it has." the rest of what he said i'm not too sure. i mean a screen protector won't make the phone look as ugly as he said.
*
no matter how tough the current glass is... it's still prone to scratches. and i'm one of those that is kinda fussy abt even minor scratches on the glass. it happened to wife's s3. all she did was put inside the purse/ handbag. when the scratches showed... she said "i thought you said jard to get scratched... so how now?". i didn't expect the sracthes to appear in just 1-2 days... i was in the process of getting the SP.

the same should apply when one puts the phone in one's pocket.

Did you know that you can use Google Now Voice Search as a calculator?
*
i find Google Now to be very useful. too bad i can't replace the double press home button with Google now. the menu button may not work while we're in some apps.

and if you're one of those wondering how many type of Samsung Galaxy (android-based) models are out there...

All of us thought N2 & S3 will get 4.2.2 when S4 release. Looks like Samsung pull a fast one &
may release only after N3 launch in Sept/Oct.  mad.gif
*
i shared earlier... i dun expect Note 2 to be getting that update so soon... coz otherwise, they won't have any good reason to sell Note 3.

4.2.2 should come with most of the things that S4 has got like dual camera recording, etc... they should all run fine on Note 2. and if note 3 dun have anything new and interesting to sell, they'd lose sales to Note 2.

QUOTE(joytest @ Jun 18 2013, 08:41 AM)
I'm wondering if sony releases the zu 6.44 in 2 weeks' time will samsung wait till oct? There is likely credible competition this year. The xz was released 1 mth befire s4 and htc1 at the same time as s4. Despite production issues htc1 is influencing buyers and so is the xz. I don't know what samsung thinks but I believe they shd be prepared with the note3.
*
i think we can start to see price of smartphones going downwards...

Those of you who love the Note 2 will have no issues with the bigger 6 inch Note3. You will get use to it within a day. Having used the bigger 5.9 Vega, 6.1 Mate n 6.3 Mega I would say Note 2 size 5.5 seems small already
Nowadays you see Sony, HTC n several China n Korean makers jumping into the 5.3 to 6.4 display sizes to capture a slice of this increasing market
It is like what Steve Job had said, something along these lines " create something for the user who does not really know what they want" n having used it they just cannot accept anything else
When Samsung released the 5.3 Note many expect it to fail. History had proven this wrong
My first 5incher Dell Streak was a failure mainly due to its bad lag n mediocre performance. The Note easily dispose it off
*
i dunno la... i still think hitting 6" will be weird for me. the thought of putting that to my face (i know, its only 0.5" difference between note 2's 5.5") plus it might be stretching my hands a bit when i play or use with two hands (holding it with one and writing with another)...
update 1: i mean... can see the size increase slowly creeping in... next, 6"... then maybe 6.3"... then 6.5"... 6.8". before we know it, we're holding a 7" phablet to answer the phone call... biggrin.gif

dunno la... i guess i need to feel the 6" out there and see how it goes... wait, that sentence came out kinda awkward... doh.gif

i've yet to invest in a good BT set or earphones for answering calls. so, i really dun hope to reach that 7"-is-normal-for-phone standard so soon... biggrin.gif

Remove and add account again? Or Samsung servers are full? I think it's not the first time.

which reminds me...

anyone has any success trying to backup sms using the samsung service? i've tried many times and have never been successful. i wonder if there's a sms limit for the Samsung service... coz i've got like 1000+ sms... biggrin.gif

i know... there are apps out there and yes, i'm using such apps: SMS Backup and Restore. but just thought that since Samsung's also got one, figured might be good to also just have an extra copy.

Morning all gurus and use of GN2! laugh.gif

Anyways, I got a quick question her regarding to battery as lately I found weird battery reading on my set.

The batt seems dropping fast to me, let say from 100 to 95% within 2hours time.

But if I restart the phone the batt reading will back to 98%. Kinda puzzled with this matter as I used to give my phone a hard restart upon fully charge and thing like this never happens before until now.
*
100 to 95... 5% drop... in 2 hours. i'd think that's good, no?

as for the phone reading going back up after restart... i personally think its kinda normal for that. usually deviate like 2-3%

Ever since I found out that S-note was platform locked, I stopped using it.
Using HandyNote, I found that the Evernote export is just a static image  mad.gif
The dropbox integration is better in that it stores the native HNF file so is far more portable this way.

Well, I seriously find the HTC One Sense has some lacking stuff if you're coming from TW. I was completely surprised to read that they have no multiple toggle equivalent and some very basic functionality of settings access is missing from the H1 ROM. WTF.

And they have to wait for 4.2.2 to get that????

And their 4.2.2 update just got canned today it seems. So......
*
handyNote... sorry if this has been asked before many times (btw, breezed through Page 1 and dun see anything about this)...

what format does it use? HNF? is this proprietary (how different from the SNote format? google but dun seem to have a lot of info on this.

sharing/ editing... if i wanna share the file with others and let them edit, easy? they also need HandyNote installed?

like you, i prefer something 'open'. dun like the idea of being locked to a particular platform. biggrin.gif

feel free to PM me too... biggrin.gif

sorry la guys... just wanna rant a bit...

i noticed my Google Play is showing some US contents like Google Movies, Google Music, Google Books, etc...

i suspect it's due to my Google Play credits that I had gotten from my N7. i wanna keep these Us contents available and i think one was is to ensure your country is listed as USA. the thing is... you can't change the country if you still have some balance -- i got balance of usd0.55 that I can't use to buy anything.

i also noticed... adding a local credit card will remove all these extra contents. *sigh*

so i emailed Google and asked if I could just give away the USd0.55 so i can't change country. reply is -- still cannot. if i wanna change country, need to create new email + wallet. wth?!? why suddenly Google CS become so freaking silly?!?

Actually we're expecting too much on the 4.2.2. I bet when it released, everyone will be complaining that there's nothing much on the updates lol.

actually, there will be one complain that is consistent with all new firmware release -- wah, this new version drain battery like nobody's business!
it will go on for weeks and then just die off...

Samsung's strategy, purposely makes the release slow for older models. So that consumers' attention can be shifted to newer models.
Purposely packs the newer models with 4.2.2. laugh.gif
*
yup, if same functions, etc is available on old phone, who will still wanna buy new phone?

QUOTE(fruitie @ Jun 25 2013, 12:02 AM)
So if I want to purchase apps, will that be inconvenient?
Like need to register my CC again?
*
i used to register, use, remove cc... then when need to use again, register, use, remove.

last week, found out we have some prepaid visa card options now in MY. very cheap to setup too. i've signed up for one and will test it out + feedback here after that. i'm sure everyone here knows what's prepaid... so i'm just gonna put a little bit of $ inside it... but when i need to buy something big with the card, just need to topup before purchase.

the card i applied is AirAsia/ Tune's Big card. rm10 for processing. there's annual fee but if you swipe more than 6 times a year, annual fee is waived. this is not a credit card, so no govt tax. i find this better than debit card since i dun need a bank account -- debit card, if limit not set properly, you can still lose a lot of $. with this case, you only lose what you have in the prepaid card.

another option i know is Maybank. they also have this now... but the card got ManU's stars... which i dun like. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(joytest @ Jun 23 2013, 10:36 PM)
SatuGadget in Menara PGRM and DirectD in SS15 are popular.
*
yup, both very famous for giving good phone price. just took my aunt there over the weekend. good time to get s3 too... prices have dropped a lot for s3 which is still very good -- other than only 1GB for RAM. i was kinda surprised DirectD board listed SME set as being cheaper than AP for s3.

and OT a bit... i was at DirectD and saw this sales girl was free so she asked me what i was looking for. she looked chinese, so i replied in Cantonese. then she looked at me with a blur look... the other guy at her side said she dun understand chinese/ cantonese.

i'm a banana and many times people jokingly laugh at me and ask "why i'm chinese but can't read/ write in chinese". i was so tempted to say this to that girl but dunno la... these days, hard to tell a person's ethnic background. world is now so... connected. biggrin.gif

i received my Anker Powerbak yesterday. some may recall i had some major disappointment with my latest YooBao Long March purchase (charger 'blew up', etc)... these days, too many fake YooBao and very scary.

i got the Anker E4 powerbank. it comes with 2 ports (1A and 2A -- not many powerbanks have 2A port which is useful for our Note 2). it's a 13000mAH powerbank. it feels sturdy and somehow manage to to give the cheap feeling which one gets with the Long March.

it's heavier than Long March. size wise, its slightly longer. the package does not come with a charger. the guys at Anker are being practical. their documentation says any 2A charger is fine -- so no problem for Note 2 users. in fact, the documentation goes on the say that if we use 1A charger, then it'll just take longer to charge.

my unit came fully charged and i used it to charge my note 2 yesterday which was at 60%. it's still showing full bar on the Anker (with the last Long March i got, this caused the Long March to drop 1-2 bars -- I suspect I got fake Long March or a really bad one).

so far, i'm happy with this and will feedback more after 1-2 weeks.

dunno whether this is good or bad... you need to press the button to actually start the charge process. unlike Long March where you connect all the cables and it starts to charge. at first, i was also puzzled as to why the Anker was not charging, but after checking the documentation, i found out why... biggrin.gif

sadly, hard to find supplier in MY at the moment. i bought my unit from Amazon (the way Anker sells their product) and had it shipped to USA, then got someone to bring it back for me.

i've asked some LYN traders to check it out and bring this Anker (Anker welcomes resellers).

ok, photos...

note: sharing this here in Note 2 thread coz 2A powerbanks are hard to find...

update 1:
oh ya... in total, paid rm162.65 for it.

Design wise quite similar to Yoobao Long March. Notice the charging rate is 1800. Very good i must say. My Long March 2A charges @ 900 only.  sad.gif
*
yup... design about the same. on the back, the Anker does not have that 'groove' that Long March has. Anker is totally flat front and back.

ya, i noticed my Long March also gives only about 1000 reading. but it could be due to cable as i tried with different cables and got different results. the best is of course to use the short one that comes with the Long March.

QUOTE(joytest @ Jul 3 2013, 12:04 PM)
Nice one. Yes 2A are hard to find after the Long March. So far my Long March has not given me problems, but I got one Yoobao 13k (the one with the Transformer logo) and another 15600. I opened up the 13k and it showed good quality cells rated at 2600mAh, and according to calculations it is genuine capacity. Haven't tested my 15600 yet. One of brotan's posts before said actually a higher charge out rate will cause much higher drain from the powerbank than normal. Perhaps this is why the current generation of power banks do not have 2A outputs. I've been reading up a bit on DC conversion electronics tongue.gif
*
ya, read that article somewhere. in fact, Anker documentation sayd to expect about 30% loss due to conversion, heat, etc... so yes, they are being very upfront and professional about it. very transparent.

i edited my earlier post to also mention that total paid was rm162.65. it was the time when RM suddenly dropped against the USD about 2-3 weeks back.
