it is matter of preferences i guess. i did all my side quests during my first playthrough (normal). for second playthrough, i played main story only. 1 reason because of being hard as what you said, secondly due to malas to go through again. keh keh.
But playing the sidequest is a great way to earn experience aside from farming tho. One sidequest I redid in TVHM mode contributed to one whole level increase for my commando.

Somebody go help him... i got us sos... but at work

I would, but my laptop is a lemon when it comes to BL2 :/ Dunno why it so like that. No problems running TF2 or even DOTA2 or SC2. Even other Unreal3 engine based game like DCUO has no problem. Just BL2 that keeps pausing for a second every 5 seconds >.<
And apparently I'm not alone- a lot of people also complaining about the having the same problem with BL2 with the same laptop model.
But quick tip behind the spoilers:

When fighting The Warrior, there is some cliffs and rocks in the area where when you crouch behind the warrior cannot touch you. Use that to your advantage, crouch reload, uncrouch, fire. If the warrior change location, go to a different rock/cliff. Repeat pattern. Just watch out for lava. If you're a commando, even easier, Since got sentry to help. If run out of ammo, run up to a Hyperion teleporter and grab some, then go back to hiding. Repeat until about 1 to 2 hours has passed and the warrior would be dead and you can beat Handsome Jack dead however you want to.
