After a couple of weeks, a few 14" with Haswell processor laptop had joined into the gaming laptop family.
Since my cousin was looking for a portable laptop that suitable for female user, so I decided to bring a GE
40 for her.

↑ Thefirst thing we should do, no other: UNBOXING.


↑ The box packaging looks similar with GE70, yet it looks much high quality.


↑ Smile like a children who got their new toy.


↑ The keyboard.


↑ Concentrate reading on the specification

↑ GE40 equipped with a i7 4702MQ Processor, using a GTX760M 2GD5 graphic card, and a 7200RPM 750GB hard disk.


↑ The latest Haswell sticker tag.


↑ 1600 x 900 anti glare screen.


↑ The dragon eyes design

↑ A usb 2.0 port, card reader, and a audio port + Mic port.


↑ Dual USB 3.0 port, RJ45 internet port, VGA and HDMI port.


↑ Well..... the laptop definitely slim enough...


↑ She wanted to take a look on interior, let's do this.


↑ Using 3 heat release components on GE40


↑ Not only on the RAM, but on power supply as well.


↑ GE40 using a low voltage Haswell processor, a heat release component is enough for it.


↑ Yup it's a traditional 750GB hard disk. But it can change into MSATA module in the future.


↑ The power button is on left corner.


↑ Light growing on the dragon eyes.

↑ Some small test on CPU-z & GPU-z, looks like it haven't update yet.


↑ Can't show all the detail, because of the latest model GPU.


↑ Testing on 3DMark11, got a beautiful score 3589. The temperature of GPU increase till 60".


↑ Testing on Bio Hazard 6, using a 1600 x 900 resolution.


↑ With a 5789 score. GTX760M is more than enough for supporting it on 1600 x 900.


↑ She request to use it while testing till half way.


↑ Okay well... just some FB stuff.


↑ Or maybe some FB flash game.


↑ It comes with a laptop bag, although it's GE40 but the size of laptop bag is exactly same as GE60.

MSI Gaming had improved a lot, besides those big hunky performance laptop, MSI does has slim design laptop now, at least female player/user has more choices nowadays.

But i heard rumor saying that if you buy a ODD model , it will be a pain to upgrade to two mSATA

Enough with the girl. Can we get a review on the battery life during non gaming usage and intense gaming? Also, I'd like to know if the laptop handles heat well.

And, can anyone tell me if both models (the ssd+hdd and the dvd drive+hdd) versions are available in Malaysia, or is it just the cheaper one?

What you're speaking about is the global site. So far, MSI Malaysia only has ONE model, and that's from speaking with the official MSI distributer here in Malaysia. It is the GE40 2OC-019MY which offers a clean US Keyboard, ODD and one 750GB SATA.

I have been looking at the variants in UK and they do not have the mSATA + SATA variant. So far only the 2OC-009US has that.

You just need to bring to their service center and buy the upgrade from them. The two mSATA is nothing more than just an adapter sister board from one SATA to two mSATA. I can't imagine that being a pain to upgrade. Of course, that is, if you can get the parts easily. But that was what I was told when I asked my usual shop if it can be done. She said she contacted MSI and that was the answer given.

This notebook quite hot (CPU 98 GPU 85) during gameplay. within 1 hour your hand sure a bit feel discomfort.

My friend did the same thing upgrading at the service centre but it took him 2 weeks and thats a pain to me

Opening the back, taking out the old HDD... inserting a SATA to 2 x mSATA caddy... shoving in the mSATA SSD... screwing it back..

Unless 2 weeks to order in the part..


In that sense, I prefer Dell's Warranty and Support Services... too bad they don't have anything that matches this computer in terms of weight.. Alienware so damn heavy.. XPS not enough power..

yes that is why i am not going to buy MSI GE40 anymore unless the model comes with the adapter otherwise i will not wait for 2 weeks

haiyoo i just bought ge60 for rm4k last month

Weight and battery life is what's putting me off Alienware.

By the way, my GE40-2OC009US cleared customs yesterday and is awaiting to be delivered on Monday (as I was outstation yesterday). It would have been delivered yesterday if I was around. It was only processed and shipped Tuesday morning (Monday evening for USA). So not bad, quite fast.

I will give a review of it once I get my hands on it.

The 750GB SATA drive is in the caddy that's where the ODD is supposed to be. It's a HDST branded 7200rpm drive.

The mSATA is being had by a 2.5" to 2 x mSATA caddy. So your storage option is 2 x mSATA + 1 x SATA.
