go jobstreet find u'll get the better picture of the job scope. hospitality is like hotel job lu. pr must be good. greet customers, serve, carry begs? basicly its service industry. pretty hetic gotta work on weekends n public holis no life. but this job got high demand graduates almost certain to get a job. pay is ok ok lo. depends to ur post. in tis industry experiance is more important than ur degree. for example a person work 5 years in hotel industry with a certificate only is more wanted than a fresh graduate with a hospitality bac degree.

Taylor's hopsitality studies seems to be quite fun. I work in LCS (where TCHT) is located and always see the students around there. You should see how they were struggling in the kitchen
Hospitality covers a wide area, notlimited to just hotel management and food services. Travel and tourism management is another example of a course. I believe if you are a person who likes to interact and communicate with others, this could be a very suitable field of study for you. Try to call their number and get more information, although I know phone bills will cost a bomb. If you have any questions, keep asking. I am sure TCHT students would be glad to help, I am too.(currently working for Taylor's Corp) Good Luck |

think the hospitality colleges do go on roadshows in sarawak. facon has organised one recently. I personally prefer the ones organised by yayasan sarawak next year.
taylor's hospitality course is tied with toulouse institute in france. i understand that the best are swiss-based ones, and KDU offers those from IMI and ITIS from Switzerland. From perspective of learning experience, think Taylor's offers a more superior one. That's my take from hanging around students in hospitality management. |

HOSPITALITY
*********** Hospitality refers to the relationship process between a guest and a host, and it also refers to the act or practice of being hospitable, that is, the reception and entertainment of guests, visitors, or strangers, with liberality and goodwill. Hospitality frequently refers to the hospitality industry jobs for hotels, restaurants, casinos, catering, resorts, clubs and any other service position that deals with tourists. Hospitality is also known as the act of generously providing care and kindness to whoever is in need. TOURISM ******** Tourism is travel for recreational or leisure purposes. The World Tourism Organization defines tourists as people who "travel to and stay in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes not related to the exercise of an activity remunerated from within the place visited". Tourism has become a popular global leisure activity. CULINARY ART ************ Culinary art is the art of cooking. The word "culinary" is defined as something related to, or connected with, cooking or kitchens. A culinarian is a person working in the culinary arts. A culinariao working in restaurants is commonly known as a cook or a chef. Culinary artists are responsible for skillfully preparing meals that are as pleasing to the palate as to the eye. Increasingly they are required to have a knowledge of the science of food and an understanding of diet and nutrition. They work primarily in restaurants, fast food chain store franchises, delicatessens, hospitals and other institutions. Careers in culinary arts ******************** There are a wide variety of opportunities in the culinary arts profession. Below is a non-exhaustive list of some opportunities available to those interested in working as culinary professionals. * Chefs and cooks - Work directly with the preparation of food for service in various establishments including full-service restaurants, catering facilities, institutional dining, corporate dining, and various other venues. * Dining Room Service * Food and Beverage Managers - Manage all food and beverage outlets in hotels and other large establishments * Food and Beverage Controllers - Purchase and source ingredients in large hotels as well as manage the stores and stock control. * Consultants and Design Specialists - Works with restaurant owners in development of menus, layout and design of dining room and establishing kitchen protocols. * Salespeople - Introduce chefs and business owners to new products and are able to demonstrate the proper use of equipment. They may sell any range of products needed in the industry from various food products to equipment. * Teachers - Train future culinary professionals with their experience in the classroom. * Food Writers and Food Critics - Establish a public contact with the public on food trends, chefs and restaurants. Many write for newspapers, magazines and some publish books. Notables in this field include Julia Child, Craig Claiborne and James Beard. * Food Stylists and Photographers - Work with magazines, books, catalogs and promotional and advertising to make them visually appealing. * Research and Development Kitchens - Develop new products for commercial manufacturers, they can also be test kitchens for publications or others can be kitchens for restaurant chains or grocery chains. * Entrepreneurship. Many culinarians develop their own business with examples including restaurants, bakeries, specialty food manufacture (chocolates, cheese etc). I see that many students are at the crossroads when they are at the junction after their SPM / STPM / Diploma, etc not knowing where to head next. There are many institutions in Malaysia that are offering Hospitality & Tourism courses. These two courses are generally separated because it is 2 different specializations of area of study. COLLEGES / INSTITUTIONS *********************** You may wish to look into institutions or colleges such as Taylor's University College, Sunway University College, KDU College, KBU International College, SeGI College, Olympia College, TAR College and just to name a few. ENTRY QUALIFICATION / CRITERIA ***************************** Each institutions and colleges offers different entry qualification or criteria when accepting students into their institutions. Taylor's University College criteria for example is that the student needs at least 5 credits (including Maths & English) in their SPM examination whereas TAR College only needs 3 credits in the SPM examination. This may also trigger you to ask about its quality of the qualification you are obtaining because Taylor's University College offers a French degree (your certificate is from France) whereas some colleges may offer you a local qualification credited by the institution. The ultimate choice is yours. FEES STRUCTURE *************** Generally, this question of fees structure is very hard to define as different colleges / institutions here in Malaysia varies. Like I said, the specific range of diploma up to degree (3-4 years) may easily take you up from RM 20K to RM 80K. As for overseas, tuition fees may accumulate you up to RM 150K-RM 250K for your degree depending on the countries you intend to study. As for cost of living and the currency exchange rate, you may need to consider as well. MATHEMATICS ************ Referring to students who may ask about Mathematics if it is part of Hospitality & Tourism courses. You may be surprised that it is compulsory. Yes, many institutions or in fact majority of it requires Mathematics as part of its subject. You have to deal with figures everyday of your life. In Sales & Marketing, figures are involved. Front Office, you deal with money. A chef needs to calculate its costing of its ingredients and a restaurant manager needs to calculate its menu costing or even to forecast the budget of the buffet spread, just to name a few. JOB PROSPECT IN HOSPITALITY & TOURISM ************************************* This question like many would have ask if it is hard to obtain a job in the hospitality & tourism industry. THE ANSWER IS NO. If you think you have no job, write to me. I will sort out something for you. There are so many hotels, travel agents, airline industry, casinos, event management, restaurants, spa, cruise-lines, gold club, convention centres, service-related field industry players out there hiring each day. Keep your eyes open wide and do not narrow your mindset. There are many ways you can source for a job: local newspapers, online job websites, job fairs, word of mouth, networking, alumni, career centres, write in to the company itself, friends and many more others. KEEP IN MIND THIS STATEMENT. DO NOT THINK THAT YOU ARE A DEGREE HOLDER, YOU WILL BECOME A MANAGER THE VERY NEXT DAY AFTER YOUR GRADUATION. THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN. Begin with a humble beginning. I'm a Bachelor of Hospitality & Tourism (Hons) graduate and I started off from the very basic and slowly climbing up the ladder. You need experience. THE FUTURE IN HOSPITALITY & TOURISM INDUSTRY IS VERY BRIGHT. IT IS A NON-DYING INDUSTRY. NO MATTER THE ECONOMY IS DOWN OR NOT, PEOPLE STILL NEED TO TRAVEL. When people travel, they need to stay in a hotel, they need to fly across the globe, they need food & beverage (restaurants & chefs), secretariat service (business center). They need to gamble (so your casino comes in), they want to build business relationships (golf course may be a good time), they need to host events (event management companies & convention centres will come in) and MANY MORE... Do not let your parents hold you back to study what many would classify the top-3 jobs; DOCTORS, LAWYERS & ENGINEERS. I can tell you how much HOSPITALITY & TOURISM people earns per year. It may be more than those three depending on how you see it yourself. ******************************************** Dear friends, I believed enough has been said about Hospitality & Tourism industry as above. The ultimate choice is yours. The world is at your fingertip. Good luck and may you have a wonderful future ahead. The bus will come quite regularly, approximately every half an hour depending on the schedule. if you are staying at other places, there will also be rapid KL stopping at certain stops to pick up students. I will be taking the inter-campus shuttle since I am staying in Suriamas. How about you guys? |

QUOTE(Kyno @ Apr 15 2010, 11:28 PM) The question is what specific course are you planning to take up? There is always PTPTN Loan for Diploma and Degree courses, only Foundation and Certificate courses are not applicable for the Loan. For Taylor's, their payment method are by semesters which is around 3-4 months per semester. Though, you can opt for Payment by Installment where you can pay the fees monthly. If you are an SPM leaver and you meet the requirement of 3 credits (with BM pass), you are qualified to join the Diploma in Hospitality Management or else you can enquire on the Certificate in Hotel Operations which can then lead you to the second year of Diploma programme. PM me if there is anything. jq |

It entirely depends on the highest qualification that you currently have. If you are a SPM leaver, then you have a choice of either to do foundation or diploma. With the foundation qualification you would be able to go into degree after a year but if you decide to do diploma, the duration for the course is 2 1/2 years. Later you would able to get an exemption up to a year after diploma however it is not applicable to the foundation course. for more information please read the link below as it will help you get a more in debth understanding on the course.
