on paper yes, on the field not really...

this is the japan team that won asia cup, but this is the brazil team that is pretty young and newly form. U can put all the superstars onto one team, but if they don't play as one, they will lose to a much inferior team eg: England rolleyes.gif

maybe if brazil lost this tournament, they will form a new squad again. they already did it twice after wc 2010 and copa america.

wp Brazil. very entertaining stuff they have done.

Japan doesn't look like themselves at all. Problem suiting with the area i guess, all of em look so tired even before the 90 min mark.

and Brazil as the host, the pitch is quite...... low-tier stuff. Lots of brown spot all over the stadium even before the game begin

Japan still jet-lagged or a culture shock? Neymar goal was class, new Barca strikeforce preview?

The Samba boys are still a force to be reckon, they will progress to latter stage but winning it, not so sure...La Furia Roja for the semis anyone

If Italy struggle (I hope not), I cant wait for Brazil third game

well should be worried about Mexico also.. Italy have a poor record against em

as the bolded part, yes the 4-0 in euro final still hurts...so.... flex.gif

Yeah...past record is poor but on current form; Italy look to be back to their best while Mexico are rather stagnant in their performance recently...its either a convincing win or a stalemate...on the other note, the Azzurinni have a chance to take a revenge for their seniors in U21 uero final thumbup.gif

Total domination by Spain. Imagine a top team like Uruguay are being made to chase ball after ball. Spain still looking good after one World Cup and two Euros.

should've beaten Mexico by a bigger margin, if not for a lack of killer instinct of Italy forwards and the blunder by the defense

but 3pts is 3pts and looking forward for another 3 against the samurai

omg, wtf did i just watched? Action packed match from start to finish

okay italy might be the more fortunate side between the 2 but coming up from 2 goals down is never easy against team like Japan

now hopefully Italy can avoid defeat against Brazil atleast to keep the morale up and hopefully Japan beat Mexico on the final day bcoz they're too awesome to went home with 0 pts notworthy.gif

Great game by both sides. Unlucky for Japan. Questionable penalty against them and woodwork a couple of time. Clearly a better performance compare to Italy.

im joking of course tongue.gif the video above was created by the B-League, here in Australia they cover the funny aspect of football, mainly A-League football and Socceroos stuff. They are quite the popular post-match shows, even players and pundits like Bosnich joined them in their shows as well as twitter etc.

still cant understand how NZ cant win the OFC Nations Cup 2012. Looking at their lineups, they are first teamers who played in that tournament, many are A-League starters. If it was NZ i think the group will be more challenging, but on the other hand i suppose its a great experience for the many small countries in the Oceania region.

^yeap NZ would give a bigger challenge..last time they were in the wc2010 they're the only unbeaten team in the tournament tongue.gif

anyway considering Tahiti last won the OFC cup by beating teams like Samoa by 10-1, i wonder if Samoa meet Spain the scoreline could be like a basketball scoreline laugh.gif

Well Australia once beat American Samoa by 31-0, with Archie Thompson scoring a world record of 13 goals. So Torres' 4 against Tahiti is nothing to shout about really. That just shows the vast difference between the teams in the Oceania group.

It's a matter of numbers of goals scored against Tahiti. Should Nigeria somehow beat Spain, Uruguay needs to score at least 6 goals to get the better of Nigeria ( more if Nigeria won by more than 1 goal)

Both injured. Aquilani had a horrendous performance in this game. Mysteriously El Sharaawy was on playing 2nd half although report suggest he's still injured & not yet fit.

Generally speaking it was an improved performance by Italy, they took their game on Brazil unlike against Japan...u cant be too defensive against the like of Brazil but again, they should not be too reliant on superseniors Buffon and Pirlo anymore...youngsters please stand up!...Now, we can only 'hope' that Italy will revenge their euro defeat though

got overrun in the midfield...bcoz both Aquilani & Montolivo were not the ball winning type like De Rossi but still a much improved performance compared to against Japan

now looking forward to the clash vs Spain...a bit of revenge is on my mind but not putting the hope so high biggrin.gif

Aquilani was so bad in that game it wasn't even funny. After Pirlo retire, really Italy has nobody to man the midfield.

The Abate injury was really unlucky. He fall so awkwardly that he might have broke his arm.

Brazil well won, so very much expect Spain vs Brazil biggrin.gif

The irony of the people in Brazil doing protest daily about World Cup but they still come and give their mightiest support to the team

Monto had a knock on his head bro, plus he can play as anchor too just like De Rossi but Prandelli prefer him on midfield. For me the most useless would be Aquaman, watched him play in serie A last season he always make reckless challenge & footing,i dont effing understand why Prandelli still favor this guy.

The whole system is dependence on how Pirlo would distributed his passing, this is something they should cover when he's not available.Luckily he has a replacement like U21 Verrati,so i have much more expectation from Azzuri in next year world cup.

Italy will revert back to 3 man defense after horrible performance againts Brazil.

Italy probable: Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Maggio, De Rossi, Pirlo, Giaccherini; Candreva, Montolivo; Gilardino.

Sharaawy supposed not to be called up for this cup when he's not even 1st choice by coach as he would gotten more play time with the U21 team. This is a mistake.

very sayangla Italy lost in penalties that previously they were very good at, obviously thats the only way to challenge Spain, tactically dicipline midfield control 3-5-2, disturbing the middle...Spain-Brazil is indeed a dream final...I will take whoever win it

Well, I am more than satisfied with the 0-0 though, since people always brand Italy as a weak team.

Bias aside, Italy is not a weak team...but when u r facing the former world, euro champion who were scoring for fun in group stage (even Torres is currently the top scorer), the underdog was so obvious...

ppl tend to forget Italy vs Spain were always have been a close encounter since their rise in 2008 (bar 2012 final)

Euro 2008 k.o stage; Spain 0-0 Italy (spain won on PS)

Friendly 2012: Italy 2-1 Spain

Euro 2012 group; Italy 1-1 Spain, final ; Spain 4-0 Italy

Confed Cup k.o stage; Spain 0-0 Italy (spain won on PS)

And to add on, Spain actually never won or score any goals against Italy prior to Euro 2012 in any same level major competition.

The 1-1 Group Stage is the first ever.

Neymar live up to hype on this tournament. I don't know why people are too quick to jump on him based only on his performance against England on two occasions before. Many among his peers and South American pundit regard him as the next big thing since 2 years ago. That shouldn't be count for nothing. Beside people are forgetting he's very young and quite inexperienced on big stage. From now on, he'll only getting better.

Surprise of the tournament for me got to be Fred. I'm aware he was Brasileiro top scorer, but i thought he already lost it when he went back to his homeland few years ago. He originally wasn't first choice, it was Damiao. To come out with better record against the likes of superstar such as Cavani, Suarez, Torres, Balotelli, Villa, Soldado etc. that mean something.

neymar is good in this tournament...but i will reserve his judgement until world cup next year to call him the next star player...lets see him perform in full season with barca first....hopeful he will not end up like robinho....was labelled next big thing but later flop big time in europe...

btw if brazil can perform like this in world cup next year then they have a big chance to win it...

Stupid Spain, Torres, Pedro, Navas, Iniesta, Xavi, all reliable penalty takers, and yet the only one with enough balls to go and handle responsibility, instead of looking down and backing off, is Ramos, even despite his famous miss with Bayern. Yet it's easier to call him a f*ckin loser, isn't it?
