Guys, I am going to japan on 18 Nov til 30 Nov. First few days in Kansai and area and last three nights in Tokyo. Now yen raise so fast I feel so painful arr..lol
Has anyone been to Mt Koya? I am spending one night in the shokubo there smile.gif
*
I spent one night in Mt. Koya, stayed at Shojoshinin.

Fantastic experience. The cemetery is really peaceful and quiet, feels totally safe even at night, not like the cemeteries in Malaysia.

Food was great, even though it was all vegetarian.

Damn cold though, my kukujiao also become frozen.

Temperature outside was below freezing, temperature inside the temple around 3 degrees celcius.

Kerosene heater smelly like shit, and my shoes froze because they were left outside.

But so worth it. Really beautiful in winter.

heading to tokyo from 30/11 - 7/12, a solo trip, n still no plan yet

but lowyatter (thx dude ^^ n nice pic, u got ask for 4D?) had gave me idea to google this -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100_Famous_Japanese_Mountains
hoping to find those wit hot spring, lake, maybe some lite hiking.

any suggestion guys, and whether the date i pick good or not to go mountains place?

then my remaining days, will try to cover tokyo as much as possible. anyway, anyone around tokyo at dat time?
*
I think it'll be too cold and dangerous to go hiking in winter. Temperature can drop very fast and people have died before.

You can visit mountain towns but hiking would be out.

Hi, I have 1 question..Usually when you guys visited japan..you guys went there by travel agent group package or just by yourself?
*
Alone.

You can save a lot of money by doing the research, buying air tickets during sale times / off peak, staying in cheap hotels etc etc.

Japan-Guide is a very good source of information.

You'd be crazy to start looking for hotels only after arriving in Japan.

Agoda and Toyoko Inn are your friends, learn to use them.

OK lotsa options. thanks everyone i'll proceed with my research.
*
Oops, AAJ is cheaper than Peach, but the problem is that AAJ flies from Narita, so you need to transfer from Haneda to Narita if you fly AAX.

Peach more convenient, AAJ cheaper.

*edit* The transfer from Haneda to Narita will cost 3000 JPY by train 1 way, which makes the prices almost the same. Peach probably better.

Sorry to pour cold water, but are you sure it is absolutely safe to (ever) go to Japan?
Radioactivity.
If one can recall what we have learnt in Physics, some readioactive substances will take many years, some decades, to reach their half life.  Even at their half lives, they still emit radioactive substances.  And the Fukushima incident happened only a few years ago.
Many would say that Tokyo is far from Fukushima/Sendai area, but one should know how radioactive substances spread.  E=mc2.
Some foodstuffs may already been contaminated, and probably unknown to be so.

Having said all that, 'exposure' to such situations may probably be all right if one are only exposed for a day or two.

If one really wants to visit Japan, perhaps going south to Fukuoka or Hiroshima, or thereabout may be safer.  Of course, these cities are not as cosmopolitan and fashionable as Tokyo.

Come on, there is a reason for visa waiver.

Think Bhopal, think Chernobyl.
I am just reminding people as effects of radioactivity do not show up till years later.  More so for those who plans to have kids.
Exposure to radioactivity is not solely by air only.  Imagine you eat a piece of sushi where the rice and fish are slightly contaminated.
It is foolish to think that the effects can only be contained within Fukushima.

Its your health, you take the risk.
*
Seriously, GTFO out of this thread. Nobody here is going to travel to Fukushima, let alone spend time near the Reactor.

Sure. Now we understand why Msian's average lifespan and rate of mortality is lower than many nations.  Good luck to you guys.

Yeah whatever, if you have no FACTS or STATISTICS to contribute about radiation in Japan, then STFU.

For my over-optimistic brothers and sisters:

The leakages at the plants are still on-going, Japan needs 40 years to recover from this crisis:
Read this

Extract from this article: Radiation showed up in local milk and vegetables, and briefly appeared in Tokyo's drinking water:
Also read this

And to that somebody who thinks that Japan has very strict safety standards, well, maybe; but are they they the most open, transparent and frank people who will tell you everything, that I do not think so.

And to that somebody who is still alive and kicking, the effects of radioactivity take decades to surface.  Radioactivity does not give you an immediate sign or symptom.  But once embedded in your system, that is the beginning of mutation of cells.  You will see the effects years or decades later.

I am saying this becoz there are many young people in here.  Come on, it is only a holiday, if you want the scenery, spend a little more, go to Europe.  If you want the shopping, go to USA.
Cherish your health and your lives.

1.) Your first link says that FUKUSHIMA will take 40 years to recover, but YOU said JAPAN will take 40 years to recover.

JAPAN =/= FUKUSHIMA.

None of us here are going to visit Fukushima, so stop spewing lies about how dangerous Japan is when the radiation is concentrated in one region.

2.) http://www.jnto.go.jp/eq/eng/04_recovery.htm

Radiation in cities like Tokyo is comparable or even below other major cities. Contaminated food did show up but that was because they were produced in Fukushima. Checks have become stricter since then.

3.) http://papundits.files.wordpress.com/2011/...ation-doses.jpg

Look at this chart and UNDERSTAND it. Living in a CONCRETE house for 1 year gives you more radiation than spending 2 weeks in Fukushima.

Red Colour are wrong.

From Tokyo to Osaka , yes u need JR Rail Pass.  From Osaka Station to USO....you need another card / pass
Please do more homework
Suica / Pasmo only can used on Tokyo.    Kansai Region are another company card.
Please do more homework
(Even you got that most important pass in kansai) I still recommended you buy a xxxxx card.  For used in FamilyMart buy food / water. Or vending machine.
One thing made me mad are u still not learn!!  I told u JR company in Kansai Region only cover 20%  And now u still tell me ''Seishun Juhaici kippu''  bla bla bla bla bla bla....this stupid pass still JR!!!  JR.  JR not work in Kansai!!!
*
Why would she need another pass for Osaka -> USJ?

Universal City station is on JR line what, the full JR pass will cover it.

Unless she is only getting JR East pass.

Yes , JR Rail Pass cover her from Shin-Osaka Station to Osaka Station to Nishikujo Station then to Universal City Station.  What if she want to go other place?   She still need one most important pass.  JR rail pass in kansai still a rubbish pass.
yes it cover....refer upper reply
*
Haha, but she say only go to USJ mah, never say if want to go other places in Kansai.

Anyway, if she's only going to Kyoto and Nara then the JR pass should be enough la. Kyoto 1 day Bus Pass is cheap enough.

*edit* Actually scratch that, sounds like she's ONLY going to USJ.

Honestly, don't bother going to Osaka solely for USJ la. Either focus on Tokyo + surroundings or focus on Kansai area.

In both cases you won't need the JR pass. For Kansai you'll get the cheaper pass that RegentCid is talking about (go do more research).

I know I cannot cover all but again as my earlier posting, I don't like theme park. Not my cup of tea. Just look around especially DisneySea & off we go. We did the sme thing in Disney Hong Kong. Spend 2 hours only then we left.

We will purchase JR Pass for 7 days usage & want to make use of it as much as possible. I don't see anything wrong with that.

U maybe the otai for Japan but it doesn't give you right to belittle my plan/itinerary.
*
Wah, this one really high class, pay so much to enter Disney HK and then leave after 2 hours.

Need some opinion guys..

Do you think it's better travel by our own or by travel agency?

Because this is my first time travel outside Malaysia. smile.gif

Ask yourself:

1.) Are you kiamsiap?
2.) Are you willing to do the research?
3.) Are you adventurous?

If answer to these 3 questions mostly "No", then take tour.

I just came back from a business trip to Japan (went with wife)

I had a 3 year multiple entry visa that I applied for last year. At immigration, they asked me whether I want to use the multiple entry visa (max 15 days stay) or no need visa (max 90 days stay)

I was there only for a week so I told them it didn't matter, just use the multiple entry.

My wife didn't have the multiple-entry visa so she automatically got 90 days, no questions asked.
