QUOTE(PhungTM @ Aug 17 2013, 02:13 PM) Is 1GB SIM card more than enough for 7 days? Just going to use it for web surfing, chatting and maybe GPS. ( using iPad ) 1GB Data is enough for me 10 days free & easy. I was planning to get a pocket Wifi but it cost RM200+. I think I only used 4xxMB only. I tethering the connection with my girl too. it cost <RM140 and collect it from Airport. |

QUOTE(oneeleven @ Sep 18 2013, 09:57 PM) November to March, I wore only T-shirt but under a thick Japanese DOWN jacket, but not recommended for slow walking inactive people. Need something like hood, hat, scarf or muffs to keep wind off ears. Too many heavy layers cause sweating which may re-freeze and very inconvenient to take off and put on again when you go indoors for train or shopping. Will your shoes fall apart when soaked in rain and melted snow? Lockers are emptied by station staff after three calender days.Lockers: I've always wondered -- can you leave things in there overnight or a few days? |

QUOTE(zaff1984 @ Nov 25 2013, 07:50 PM) Hi, I'm going to Japan next month. I will buy JR Pass. Im using Hyperdia and study my route a lot. I understand of JR Pass validity. You is 7 or 14 consecutive days Japan Rail Pass? Basically my route is Tokyo-Sapporo (by flight)... and back to tokyo by train... Im not sure for the fee I should pay for Limited Express Train from Sapporo to Hakodate. Here is the screenshot from the hypermedia website. ![]() Should I pay full price 8080yen ? or I just have to top up since I have JR Pass. 8080yen is so expensive. if yes, then no need to pay for LXT Super Hokuto from Sapporo to Hakodate. remember do make a seat reservations too, don't like me stand almost 2hours to arrive Hakodate due to one of the LXT Super Hokuto break down (so unlucky), reserved seat that we made previously all gone and we have take next round of LXT Super Hokuto. Wasted a lot of time ... ![]() 20130716_074945 modified by ahpaul82, on Flickr |

QUOTE(zaff1984 @ Nov 25 2013, 08:56 PM) I really happy at last someone just get me an answer.. thanks buddy.. I will take 14 days JR Pass. I will buy JR Pass from JAL Kuala Lumpur. Where did you buy your JR Pass ? I only able to give help if the places I been before Really I don't have to pay for Limited Express Train ? not like sifu RegentCid can give helps in almost whole Japan. No, I didn't purchase JR Pass, I purchased 5days Hokkaido Rail Pass instead once I arrived New Chitose Airport Station @ JR Information Desk. my Hokkaido Rail Pass : This ticket cost me RM6xx. Your 14days lagi expensive.. You answer actually can find from here : HERE Limited Express Super Hokuto is under JR Company, I find no reason why cannot take it. but one thing I don't understand, why you need take flight from Tokyo to Sapporo since you wanted to purchase 14days JR Pass? It will end up more expensive on transportation fee.. |

QUOTE(zaff1984 @ Nov 25 2013, 10:57 PM) 14 days JR Pass will cost me RM1450. I mean since you decided to purchase 14-days JR Pass, thanks for the link really helpful. I thought LTD EXP is not under JR and route Hakodate-Sapporo will cost me more than RM256 and consume a lot of times. Flight tix to Sapporo is only RM180 and takes only 2hrs for Kansai, Osaka. That's why I choose fly. I'm not spend all 14 days at Hokkaido. maybe just 5 days there. Sapporo-Otaru-Asahikawa. might as well take the Tohoku Shinkansen Hayabusa from Toyko to Hakodate, (but 6hours+ train lah. no need to spend another RM180 one way flight ticket mah. because even you take flight from Tokyo to Sapporo, (flight time around 90mins or 120mins i forgot liao) you also need spend another 3hours+ from Sapporo to Hakodate. Unless you want skip Hakodate lah, (Sapporo-Otaru-Asahikawa) but I highly recommended you visit Hakodate. |

QUOTE(zaff1984 @ Nov 27 2013, 01:02 AM) JR Pass does not include Hayabusa shinkasen and other two bullet trains.. hv to pay additional cost... others bullet trains are free.... ermm.. I don't mind 6+ hours, I hv been 18 hours train in china.. haha... but Tokyo-Sapporo and going back Sapporo-Tokyo will be time consuming... I have to waste 2 days (1 day Tokyo-Sapporo) and (1 day more for Sapporo-Tokyo) in train... by the way its not 6hrs+ but it's 10hrs. haha. sleeper train is too expensive. if not I will travel at night to save time and accommodation cost. ![]() yup i know sapporo to hakodate is quite far... I hope there's beautiful scenenary to see along the way... I don't think I have enough to cover Hakodate... this is what I got from internet: ![]() JR by ahpaul82, on Flickr I don't think your JR Pass cannot use on the shinkasen to Hakodate.. the 6hours+ train I mentioned is from Tokyo to Hakodate only. ![]() JR02 by ahpaul82, on Flickr of coz you need calculate in the 3hours+ time if you travel from Hakodate to Sapporo without stopping at Hakodate, then the total travel time is 10hours+ you can consider stay a night in Hakodate if you going to Hakodate via train, then only from Hokadate > Sapporo > Otaru and Asahikawa. after finish visiting Hokkaido heading back to Tokyo, you can consider taking one way flight from Sapporo to Tokyo. anyway, since you have purchased the one way ticket from Tokyo to Sapporo, my suggestion no longer important lah. If Hakodate is one of your itinerary, You have no other choice but spend 3hours+ train travel there from Sapporo, and consider staying a night there if you are not rushing back on same day. |

QUOTE(zaff1984 @ Nov 28 2013, 02:30 AM) Thanks buddy for your suggestion. Will keep it in mind. Since you have purchased the air ticket to Sapporo, Thanks for sharing, would love the hear your experience and tips @RegentCid - from Sapporo-Hakodate (LTD. EXP SUPER HOKUTO 2) and Hakodate-Sgin Aomori (LTD. EXP HAKUCHO 28) are using Limited Express Train right ? Do I still need to top-up for express service even I have JR Pass... or it will be free ? This is my actual concern. If yes, how much I should top-up? Might as well you itinerary is, Sapporo > Otaru > Asahikawa > Hokadate. because you definitely need to go Hokadate when you heading back to Tokyo using Train... Any final confirmation still based on what RegentCid suggested as he is Guru here. This post has been edited by ahpaul82: Nov 28 2013, 09:37 AM |

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Nov 28 2013, 09:36 AM) NO NO Mo..... Ohhh.. Should be Sapporo > Asahikawa > Otaru > Hakodate. Because on the way to Hakodate will pass Otaru. This way more appropriate. No need go east then west then east again. Guru has spoken, definitely agreed with you. edited: but wait, As I know, train from Otaru only arrive to Oshamanbe woh, need transfer in order to go Hakodate? Unless he from Otaru back to Sapporo again to take LTD. EXP SUPER HOKUTO 2 to Hakodate. This post has been edited by ahpaul82: Nov 28 2013, 09:47 AM |

QUOTE(zaff1984 @ Nov 28 2013, 09:59 AM) Sapporo to Otaru just less than 1hr train ride right ? so day trip from Sapporo is sufficient right ? Bro, ![]() BUT I'm not sure about this route. 300+km !!? ![]() you can use Google Maps as alternative to roughly know distance, route and fare. rougly need 30-40mins depends on which train you take. day trip are okay. QUOTE(RegentCid @ Nov 28 2013, 10:11 AM) you edited more faster than me reply from Otaru Station to Oshamanbe need 3hours via Local train, then need 1hours+ from there to Hakodate if using LXT. anyway, what we want to said from here is, No matter which route you take, You have to spend at least 3-4hours to arrive Hakodate. Japan big mah.. This post has been edited by ahpaul82: Nov 28 2013, 10:30 AM |
