Booked KUL-KIX and HND-KUL, end of Nov 2014. (1 week)

Will need help from sifus here again. Should be no problem with Tokyo, but first time going to Osaka/Kyoto.

No proper itinerary yet as it is 1 year away  doh.gif but just some rough question.
1. For Osaka-Kyoto-Nara, it is a good or bad idea to set Osaka as the base and travel daily?

2. Where to keep luggage at Nara?

3. From Osaka/Kyoto to Tokyo, it it worthwhile to buy JR pass for the Shinkansen or just fly with Peach?

Thanks

You should do the homework first then only can get my Answer.

1st Question:
I set my base at Kansai Airport.  brows.gif  brows.gif    My hotel room is the Gulf G-6.
If Set HQ.....I perfer Osaka because nightlife

2nd Question:
Train Station.  Which train station much better?  you need do homework.
About 3rd Question:
have you try Shinkansen before?  If no then take Train.  If try alot alot times like me until Fxxx boring. then take Peach Airline.
*
Sure will do home work biggrin.gif

1. Alright, so it's not a stupid idea to travel daily to kyoto afterall.
2. Well ok, so its the station locker. This one no problem. If i confirm set Osaka as base, then this consider solved dy.
3. Taken Shinkansen from Tokyo to Odarawa before lol..consider taken la...i will plan the route to see whether I can use the JR pass to the max or not first. Peach is around 5000 Yen, but time is not flexible and need to waste time at airport. Also, it lands at Narita. Correct me if I am wrong, we can sit at the unreserved seat at the Shinkansen using JR pass right? So the time flexibility is there.

I read from website that the reservation can only be made on the station itself. In this case, how to make reservation when I am still in Malaysia, or I should not be that kiasu? laugh.gif

QUOTE
Japan Rail Pass holders can make seat reservations for free by presenting their actual rail pass (as opposed to a voucher) at any JR ticket office across Japan. Reservations cannot be made on board of trains or at ticket machines. Some trains in Eastern Japan can be reserved over the internet.

During Bon Odori Season & Golden Holiday Season.  Seat Reservation can be done 1 week early before you departure.

Only for these 2 Season. And these 2 season also seat reservation for Japanese only.  Foreigners only can get free seating.
*
Still only able to make reservation at the station right? If during these 2 seasons only for Japanese, foreigners with JR Pass also no choice but to sit on unreserved seat. Understood.

From Kansai Airport (KIX) to Kyoto, I find that the best way is to use the Airport Express HARUKA since can use JR Pass and it only takes about 75 mins with no train change needed. Why I can't find this info at Hyperdia?

The downside is, unable to take shinkashen from Shin-Osaka to Kyoto Station.

We also went to try out their budget conveyor belt sushi. Needless to say, the quality is miles away from the expensive sushi that we had in Tsukiji Fish Market. The fish, the rice, the flavouring, are all of sub-par quality. :/ It's apparent now that I can truly differentiate quality sushi and cheap ones. Bad for my wallet though.
How do you compare the conveyor belt sushi there than the ones here, say Sakae Sushi?

I am trying to find low cost carrier from KIX / ITM to HND but unable to find any. Budget is around 5000 yen. The next best option is KIX to HND and I found 2 options, Peach and Jetstar. Fares are comparable and both offer 10 kg hand carry. Jetstar has 4 flights daily while Peach has only 2. But why Peach name keeps popping up ? hmm.gif

KANSAI AIRPORT to KYOTO using Haruka Express

From Hyperdia, Total:Â¥ 3,080(Fare:Â¥ 1,830 Seat Fee:Â¥ 1,250)

If I purchase the Haruka and Icoca card which inclusive of ¥ 1,000 one way fare, I can just use the Haruka card without having to add any more fee for unreserved seat right?

The Icoca card is the equivalent of Pasmo / Suica right?

Is Kasuga Taisa really within walking distance from Todaiji and Kofukuji? It's 1.8 km from google maps.

I am planning to do Kofukuji > Todaiji > Kasuga Taisa > return to Kintetsu / Nara station (clockwise route). Is counterclockwise route better? Thanks

Here is the draft of the first half of my trip (Osaka-Kyoto-Nara). Would like to get some input before proceeding further.

Itinerary Day 1 - 4:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Since I have not make any room bookings, mostly are just estimate based on Kyoto Station and Namba Station as base. Here is the breakdown of the rail + bus expenses according to day and rail:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Card / Pass usage:
- Icoca (Y1500) to be used for JR Rail, non JR rail on Day 2, and the rest on convenience store.

- Kansai Thru Pass to be used for Non-JR Rail on Day 1, 3, 4, and Kyoto City Bus Day 1, 3, 4. I reckon I will be using more rails on Day 3 and 4 around Osaka, so the Y5000 value will be worth.

- Kyoto City all-Day pass (Y500) to be used for Kyoto City Bus on Day 2.

Sifu Sifu, do comment notworthy.gif

Excellent usage on those pass.    Know how to separate usage for those Kansai pass. and slot in empty slot day with cheaper Kyoto bus pass.  Excellent.  If me I will be same usage as you.

Master level.

make sure you reload money into Icoca card.

Thanks man
Thanks as well. Damn, didn't know that it's gonna cost that much. I was actually merely asking if the time is worth it. But now it costs way more than I thought..

Looks like I'm gonna stay within Osaka kyoto area then.  notworthy.gif

Oh btw, I found an alternative. I saw Jetstar airlines which travels to Tokyo for around 7780 yen bothways at around February 2014.. but I'm going at November 2014, might be cheaper might be more expensive by then ~~
*
7780 yen both ways consider okay. Try to check if they have special promo...or can even check out peach..they have cheap sale like air asia too. If you are really into anime and will not be returning to japan anytime soon, then go for 1 day trip or so. Else you will feel incomplete and regret next time. Do factor the time taken to/fro from airport too

Hey need advice on Tokyo rail pass.
I will be in tokyo for 12 days, and will only be going around tokyo.
I will be arriving at Narita and staying at Asakusa.
From what I understand, I can take Toei Asakusa Line from airport to asakusa.

Which pass should I buy? I checked out JREast webpage they have either one or three day pass. Am I checking the right place?

I also checked out JR Rail Pass 14 days for 45,100 YEN is this the one I should get? cos Im only travelling in tokyo area.

Thanks a lot
*
You can refer here for Narita-Asakusa:
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2027.html?aFROM=2027_3004

You don't need to buy the JR pass, not worth it as you are in Tokyo only.

Theer are several passes in tokyo but there is restriction to each.
http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/arrange/travel/p...nai_ticket.html

You can consider Pasmo/Suica for ease of travel, but they provide no discount. Just like touch and go
