Correct me if I am wrong, we can sit at the unreserved seat at the Shinkansen using JR pass right? So the time flexibility is there.

In this case, how to make reservation when I am still in Malaysia, or I should not be that kiasu? QUOTE Japan Rail Pass holders can make seat reservations for free by presenting their actual rail pass (as opposed to a voucher) at any JR ticket office across Japan. Reservations cannot be made on board of trains or at ticket machines. Some trains in Eastern Japan can be reserved over the internet.

The next best option is KIX to HND and I found 2 options, Peach and Jetstar. Fares are comparable and both offer 10 kg hand carry. Jetstar has 4 flights daily while Peach has only 2. But why Peach name keeps popping up ?

The Icoca card is the equivalent of Pasmo / Suica right?

I am planning to do Kofukuji > Todaiji > Kasuga Taisa > return to Kintetsu / Nara station (clockwise route). Is counterclockwise route better? Thanks

I was actually merely asking if the time is worth it. But now it costs way more than I thought.. Looks like I'm gonna stay within Osaka kyoto area then. Oh btw, I found an alternative. I saw Jetstar airlines which travels to Tokyo for around 7780 yen bothways at around February 2014.. but I'm going at November 2014, might be cheaper might be more expensive by then ~~ 7780 yen both ways consider okay. Try to check if they have special promo...or can even check out peach..they have cheap sale like air asia too. If you are really into anime and will not be returning to japan anytime soon, then go for 1 day trip or so. Else you will feel incomplete and regret next time. Do factor the time taken to/fro from airport too
