I was thinking the same thing

winter jacket + t shirt + some fancy wool/heat tech uniqlo (buying there because cheaper)

and jeans
*
Yeah. Probably the way to go. Any brand from japan that is available here 100% is cheaper there. Bought a bunch of heat tech for myself

Buy the long sleeved ones coupled with a long sleeve tshirt more than enough for any situation

But no matter how warm you wear if you stay out doors for more than a few hours you will be cold eventually

Hi, from google map, Ryokan Shimizu appears to be quite a distance from Kyoto Station. Do you rely on taxi, bus or just walk? Thanks

Hi

I will have around 20 days in Japan from 12 Jan-1 Feb. I will be landing in Narita on 13 Jan and will spent a night in Niigata first

1 nights Nigata,
3-4nights Tokyo (Shinjuku,Shibuya,Roppongi)
1-2nights Hakone(MT Fuji/Onsen)
2-3 nights Kyoto,
3-4nights Osaka (day trip to Nara, day trip to Himeji)
1-2nights Hiroshima (worth going?)
2-3nights Tokyo

Below are my queries to all SIFUs out there smile.gif

a)I haven't booked my accommodation yet,so I would appreciate if anyone could recommend any backpackers hostel below RM 150 per night?

a) Any highly recommended RYOKAN to stay in the above place I mention especially Hakone as I would like to experience Onsen.

b)As Osaka/Kyoto is in the west ,does my JR east pass is much of a use when I am there and if not, which pass is recommended?

c) Plan to go Mt Fuji, but since its winter I will only plan my trip to Mt Fuji when I am there. Any advise on this?

d)As for Telco, i would like to be connected and I got to know that they do have sim card rental services in Japan, where u will order online &they will deliver to your hotel? is it worth it or shud I just stick to free WIFI?

Thank you very much!

Subjective lor I suppose. Survived with a winter jacket,  a tshirt and a uniqlo heat tech underneath. Wore jeans all the way.

I also have my beanie and gloves stowed away in my back pack

Just wondering Uniqlo longjohn (btm and top Rm120+) is cheaper compare to universal traveller (RM188 a set) and winter time (RM188 a set).. Isnt uniqlo longjohn less warmer compare to both?

For me we just walked. It was about a 15 minute walk from the station (not including the walking within the station). We went in Spring so it was cool and nice. I don't think the walk would have been as nice in the summer.

Tokyo Disney Sea Part 3 (Minnie's Summer Splash!)

The highlight of the morning was none other than Minnie's Summer Splash which only happens during the summer in Japan! At least half of the park-goers were anticipating for this event. We were told it would be a very wet event and it was evident that most people were well prepared with their rain coats. I was quite defenseless and hence chosen to stay slightly further away from the front line. =3

In general, the whole event was having fun with the Disney Characters as they dance on their boats muttering in Japanese. Staff's on the ground added on to the fun by guiding to crowd to dance along with the music. It was really a fun filled moment. With the scorching summer sun, we got dried up pretty quickly despite being semi-drenched in water. biggrin.gif

After all the early morning partying we then went to a nearby American styled restaurant nearby the American Waterfront for our breakfast. I ordered a Salmon Bagel which costed ¥620 which tasted really nice for theme park food standards. Though the bagel was a bit tad small.

you can rent a MiFi from http://globaladvancedcomm.com/
I used them in my last trip and the device was excellent. they mail to hotel, and supply you with envelope so that you can mail back to them at the end of your trip. highly recommended as free wifi is not easily available in tokyo.

Those 700 yen are discount price and old stock.
New shirt will be 1200 to 1500yen plus sales tax.

Same price as Malaysia.

So far I travel around world. China Uniqlo are cheapest. New shirt just 59 RMB only.

Nope, definitely cheaper. I bought one 1500 yen heat tech is a higher grade one that isn't sold here. At least I couldn't find it. Those 700 to 900+ are the ones sold here.

But if you're talking about t shirts and such dunno la haha.

Jeans was 6k for 2 pairs of their most expensive ones in the store iirc.

also to add, they have also provided tourists with free wifi for certain areas. for example if you go to akihabara visit the tourist center located at one of the duty free shops (the biggest one there again) and ask for the free wifi.

they will then ask for your passport for verification (but in our case did not cos we dont look like japanese) and pass you a card. behind the card you peel off the sticker for the password. instructions on how to use are there too

most of the major precincts have these free wifi areas, we got the cards for shibuya, akihabara and hakone.

disclaimer: though we did get the cards we did not use it cos we never stayed put in a place long enough to be surfing the net.
