Recommended SC

1)Serdang SC - http://worldcarcare.com.my/WorldCarCare.html
Reasons: Best customer service in all reviews.

2) CoSE (beside Kesas) - Head towards Klang on Kesas and you will pass by the biggest Proton billboard you'll ever see. Thats the place.
Proton Center of Excellence (CoSE),
Jalan TP 5, Taman Perindustrian Sime Uep, 47600 Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia
Tel: 03-80269333
Tel2: 03-80269167
Fax: 03-80269155
HQ, easy to claim warranty and reflash ECU. Have to make appointment b4 going there. Can bring own Lube

3) Juru SC (Penang) - Can bring own lube.

4) Trend point - Along Jalan Tun Razak. (Still under review, first review was bad, but a warranty claim experience after that shows that they're quite efficient and able to detect problems that even CoSE denies.)

Unrecommended SC (TRY TO AVOID AT ALL COST!)

1) Sin Siang Hin sdn. bhd. all Klang Valley branches - bad service and they whack ur car like they pay for petrol
2) Senaxis Sdn Bhd No. 50, Jalan SS26/ 11, Taman Mayang Jaya, Petaling Jaya, 47301 SELANGOR Tel: 012-3283123 Fax: 03-78048753

What's the guideline for tyre pressure on track? Slightly overinflated or follow factory recommended?

No guidelines bro. You have to adjust accordingly to your driving style and adjust every lap.

I test drove Preve CFE yesterday, thinking to upgrade my ride. Unfortunately I don't find the Preve CFE a big improvement over the Persona for that amount of money, except for the safety features.

NVH is about the same, and the test drive car made more noise than my own Persona. The CFE has disappointed me, it gave no performance kick, maybe because of the CVT.

I didn't get to try the Inspira 1.8MT though.

Now I'm thinking, did the salesman troll me and let me test drive NA version? But there is 7 speed when I use paddle shifter, I assume it is definitely CFE.

My Persona has more kick when I throttle down. The Preve is just like, as if I didn't WOT.

Deng, you all think Preve mia CFE is for sporty driving meh?

It is just a small turbo to churn out enough power to hurl the 1.3 tonne car along. It is not slow, but not terribly fast either.

If you are expecting VW Golf TSI or Pug308T performance, you'll have to look elsewhere. If you are looking for the kick when boost kicks in, buy a Focus ST, Golf GTI or Scirocco R.

I drove through a wide RPM range with various gear settings. Can't feel the major improvement, your car is more ganas than it. The turbo is very much just for fuel efficiency.

Unless you use Campro CPS as base (125hp) and boost at high RPM when the CPS kicks in.

i change at outside la.. not inside proton. i bought the timing belt and i did change the belt tensioner...
because it was include inside the timing belt... maybe because the belt tensioner screw is small. thus proton ppl lazy to change it.... oil seal no change because change 2 time timing belt only chance oil seal

so will it (not replacing the tensioner) harm the engine in the long run if i wait until next timing belt change?

I'm going to change my spark plug tomorrow to denso power it20 on 40K service.

Got mine from Zen ages over 1 year and half ago. However just suddenly cross my mind if the denso I have is ori or not coz just found out spark plug also got imitation (never realise that earlier).

Since Zen mentioned in his usage, the plug gap if quite huge at 30K mileage while this plug has a life span of 30K miles = 48K kilo mileage. Give and take at 30K kilo mileage, it should not have such massive gap (I supposed since got no exp in plug).

Xan plug bought that farm at near 50K, it might degrade but kaput at 50K!!!! (I assume they might have the same source, tell me if I'm wrong).

I forgot how my box looks like, have to go back and check. What worries me is I can't remember if the IT20 model is printed or stick on. My memory vaguely remember stick on...and not sure it the plugs is not even in individual box. Really have to check tonite since left it there for over a year. If sticker stick on and plug is not in individual mini boxes inside the main box, is it fake?

Zen, can you remember (if you manage to read this in time)? Can confirm your source is really ori?

ps. found the denso website indicating some difference on the actual plug. Haiz have to check mine tonite.

I bought mine from Speedworks, come with individual box.

You'll be surprised with the price I paid for IT20, it's RM220 with installation after haggling for discount. sad.gif

Oh..Xan mentioned on of his power plug kaput at abt 50K, totally spoilt causing power loss in the car. Since the lifespan of denso power is 30K miles = abt 48K kilo, it should degrade to the stage of kaput (I assume coz no exp in plugs).

I am also assuming he might also get his plug at the same source as zen since it was around that time zen also bulking the plugs. Zen's working fine until he check at 30K discovering gap getting quite big at 30K mileage (it should be able to last without massive degraded performance before 40K).

Since we know fake won't last long due to usage of inferior material and can seriously damage the engine, I wonder whether to use or not. Really looking forward to using them since my foc stock plugs replacement at 20k.

Xandras is high mileage and high speed stressed the car one. That's why faster kaput.

That means if mine is not in individual box, then I should consider forgoing the plugs. If they are in individual boxes, still have to check sticker of model or is it printed. Then also have to check the plugs printed quality and metal quality based on the pics in denso website. If one of them is not in order, grrr....have to use back stock plug tomorrow.

Hopefully it checked out when I go back check tonite.

Oh.....ok. Maybe I worry for nothing. Got to get out of that stupid habit. Still have to check plugs if in mini boxes and also the marking quality on the plugs itself.

Haha.....that give me some relieve liao since I cannot remember but somehow have vaguely looking at the plugs without remember taking out from mini boxes.

You also using Zen's bulk?

Comes to think abt it, I supposed everyone here using Zen's bulk are still in good order, so I suppose I'm really worrying for nothing.

IT IS BECOZ of ngeo88 thread I start worrying, if not I did not even know plugs got fake until now. Yeah...I'm ignorant on that point.

Yup, me using SP from Zeng's bulk also. Already 30K++ mileage on the usage.
Probably change back to stock or other long lasting SP at next major service.

I will check the plug at 30K, if still good, will drag till 40K at most. At least that's what the response of Denso Japan to one of the guys who actually asked them.

I don't like to use things to maximum limit coz by then the performance would have degraded until no fun liao not to mentioned possible damaging thus my philosophy on early change for lube even tho its a bit wasteful. However if financial not good, that's another story lor...squeeze till every last drop..

I minimized the usage of air conditioning, only manually activate it when cabin temperature is hot, mainly activated when car is just rolling down a slope.

Savings is significant! I reckon 20-25% fuel saving.

all the savings to repair or change the aircond compressor.
compressor works similar to engine. not moving for a period of time, oil total drain onto bottom. sudden rotate at high rpm, piston will have much more damaging.

The compressor is also turned on and off repeatedly at possibly high RPM when we drive, regulating the temperature we choose on knob.

The compressor oil is like a closed and sealed system, there's no sump for it to drain down. Neither that I know that aircon compressors have piston. Please enlighten.

Wow, that's cute.

Although I don't think turning off the air conditioning most of the time will cause additional harm to it. Retrieving the couple of HP from air conditioning makes the car so much lively and smooth to drive.

For those that changed their battery to DIN 55. Can they fit into our existing battery seating? Any issue?

Yes, I changed to DIN55 recently. It's the best fitting upsized battery, fits on the original bracket. However the battery shop I went quickly changed the nut that locks down the bracket to a thinner thread to fit, I think the original might fit if he spends a bit more time aligning it right.

Thanks everyone for replying.

Ordered a Panalite DIN55 battery yesterday coz my mech's does not have DIN45 batteries of the few brands he carried. Loved Panalite batteries that seems to be quite lasting on my Cities. At the minimum of 2 years to 3 years usually.

Just serviced 41K major service yesterday. Got my iridium plugs in. The SC USED SP3 for ATF (they used to be using the newer XP3), their supplier supplied the SC with SP3 this time when they ordered atf. If only I've known, I would have bought it elsewhere but the BIG PETRONAS station next door pun takda ATF for proton.

I also asked to eliminate the quek quek steering cover sound beside the robotic swirling sound that THE clock spring warranty item are supposed to solved at my final warranty change.

Turned out changing clock spring DOES not solved the problem. The Proton tech misdiagnosed it earlier coz even with clock spring taken out, the robotic whirling sound still there when steering is turn. Tech mentioned have to pumped grease into the steering shaft. A quick check with my usual mechanic suggest that it might be steering pump or something, usually nothing to worry abt but laughed at suggestion of grease pumped in coz only lorries need that, never heard of car doing that.

The quek quek sound finally solved as the proton mech remove the cover and reinstall quite a number of time until the quek disappear, quiet and very happy with it.

.......then later in the evening, rattling appear in the steering cover. sweat.gif This is worse coz rattling appear with any heavier engine idle or harsher road vibration while the earlier solved quek noise at least only appear when steering is turn....

So temporary forced tucked a piece of visible paper in between the steering cover to minimize rattling occurring. Feel like banging my head on the steering......malas want to go back again to refix the cover. Maybe when I go back at 60K mileage for semi major service.

On other note, I going to service my air-cond for first time (at 41K mileage) and called my usual car air-cond guy.

He mentioned servicing air cond needs to removed parts of dashboard....I tot removing the glove compartment inside the car is sufficient, have to tear out other dashboard parts meh?

Where do you service your car? It sounds like they have time to slowly fiddle with the car.

The small SC at Bukit Tinggi, Klang. Used to be at CoSE but gave them up for normal servicing last time. Too slow.

This SC can negotiate a bit wan on the work load but it really depends also. Coz last time I service there and want to claim warranty, they asked me to come back another day for warranty claim, no time (even tho I already book that time and mentioned warranty claim earlier). Best to do that in morning so no excuse for no time (they want to go back on time)...

hi guys.. i've been eyeing for proton persona age between year 10~12 full spec which the rear comes with the disc brake instead of drum. most probably persona SE or persona elegance full spec.

so wanna ask u guys, how is this persona? any pros and cons? quality wise? FC?

regarding the lotus ride and handling, if i change the the suspension to 3rd party manufacturer, does the ride and handling still applicable?

Large part of Lotus R&H has to do with suspension, if you modify it then of course it is not a Lotus R&H design anymore la.

Stay with stock suspension. Still got body roll but minimal. One of the best of its class for stock setup. Don't compare it with iswara, the suspension is totally different class. (I used to own iswara too).

Rattling, all cars also got, even Toyota Alphard cannot escape it. My H-line rattles on the driver side coin rack. Now steering (inside) pulak rattles due to tech open up b4.

The material difference between H-Line and other lines are not mentioned officially anywhere. You masuk sit in both cars, then you notice the drastic difference. Dashboard not sure (softer, etc....). Leather steering makes a very different feel for handling, increased sound insulation on side doors and roof (not mentioned in proton sites, NVH is definitely a notch better than other line). Leather material on side door instead of those mushy cloth in other lines. All these materials adds up to make a much higher grade feel vs other lines.

Also a MAJOR unmentioned (officially) difference between H-Line and others....the braking system that uses 1.6 gen2 brake pump that are MEANT for PE. Other line uses the cheaper 1.3 saga type pump that does not provide sufficient braking power thus if a PE guy complain abt its brake totally sucked, chances are they're not using H-line.

yeah, talking about the steering, i wonder if the buttons on the steering still usable if i change the HU to pioneer HU..

this is why i opt for hi-line.. the main reason is just because the rear disc.. i dont feel safe with drum.. but does hi-line really worth to get? cz most persona i've seen on the road r either b line or m line.. hardly see any h line persona tho.

well, how about the drive by wire delay? is like when u step on the pedal, slightly harder then only the car will move.. not sure u guys understand what im trying to say, but if u guys driven iswara b4, is like even u step on the pedal lightly, the car already start moving already.

Test drive at Proton yourself. I'm not disturbed by the throttle lag, it's just the 7000-1100 RPM being insensitive, it's a jump instead of gradual rev.

drive by wire delay will be there regardless of how hard you press the pedal luh

but can fix Electronic throttle controller, will improve the problem, but will not totally eliminate it

oh.. other than adding the firestorm, is there anyway to overcome the problem?

firestorm, emanage kind of electronics and LCP, 421 extractor, stainless steel/fiber air filter kind of mechanical can mod to minimise the lag.

I just came back from test driving a manual persona and want to ask all sifu here a question.

Anyone have problems changing gears?

The storage box/component behind the gear (between the seats) blocks my hand whenever changing to 2nd/4th gear.

Really a turn off, I really wanted to get a persona. sad.gif

Is there a fix/solution to this?

3 solution :
1. change the longer gear shifter'
2. get a auto h-line PE
3.

Thanks to kenjiliew, went to fix my car for that noisy sound. Luckily it was no suspension/drivetrain damage, just brake pad coincidentally went out, the warning tab caused the noise.

I also replaced the scratched rim cap @ RM37 at a tyre shop. Used but still pristine condition.

Yes, RM85 for normal pads. I don't think there's any renown brand on it.

I do it every 10-15k. Tyre swap, balancing and alignment back and front one shot.

The last one I did at Proton CoSE, it's surprisingly not very expensive, still cheaper than some tyre shops. Quality is satisfying.

Done 41K major service, new air filter, Caltex semi, stupid SP3 atf for gear and steering, dot 4 brake oil and Denso Power plugs that totalled RM592. Added a new RM280 DIN 55 Panalite battery and serviced air-cond (changed something that looks like a metal bottle...and replaced a new original timing belt that totalled RM330. Cost me over RM1200 over the weekend and now drinking plain water for lunch today.

Belt has some miniscule cracks liao. Tot it might be the after affect of LCP but the air-cond tech sifu (my long term air-cond man) mentioned his own 4 year old SE Persona also cracked at over 30K mileage (mine is 41K), so its normal and should have nothing to do with LCP.

I still have wonder whether our LCP does contribute to earlier "retirement" of the belt.

Either way, if LCP does contribute to this, I still think its worth it even if paying near a hundred buck for the belt (maybe higher price coz he stock very few of it and its original). If I'm to take out LCP, I don't think I can live anymore with the tak boleh jalan punya auto....that means either I drive with LCP or I sell the car... tongue.gif

So from now own, I will check very 30-40K mileage or so...and change if necessary.

QUOTE(Cavino @ Jun 24 2013, 12:10 PM)
Belt has some miniscule cracks liao. Tot it might be the after affect of LCP but the air-cond tech sifu (my long term air-cond man) mentioned his own 4 year old SE Persona also cracked at over 30K mileage (mine is 41K), so its normal and should have nothing to do with LCP.
*
i think that 1 not timing belt...
timing belt is inside the engine plastic...
that 1 is. i also dono call what belt.. that for alternator, power steering, aircond compressor

Belt only RM 50 for Bando Brand, exclude workmanship. Quality better than original Belt

Is it? I thought it's just a few stepping on brake pedal also. No adjustments as I remember.

The ceramic brake pad is loud. Should have just taken Bendix if it's this loud.

Ended up walking away with a bottle of Magnatec.

Any FS is overkill but if you want to change at 10K mileage, FS is the only EO to go for. FS does not really increase power but smoothen acceleration and decrease engine vibration / noise, not to mentioned cleaner engine especially for long term usage. However that is assuming you're not using full 10K mileage, coz 5K semi EO change is cleaner than 10K FS EO change.

It's not too light if you retain 5W40 weight. It has better lubrication than other EO. My City have a 5K mileage for 6 months and I used FS for that due to the above mentioned benefit. Overkill for power but not for the increase comfort. Cannot afford it for PE coz I reach 5K in abt 2-2.5 months time, so forced to use semi for that.

inb4 someone from neighbour thread afraid of using mineral, later in the future engine rosak.
their perspective about mineral EO is misleading.

Actually I don't find mineral very much difference from semi. Semi only added probably 10%-20% synthetic based lube and the grade of the based mineral oil used should still be the same grade. Thus if your car is doing fine using mineral, go with it, its abt 1/3 cheaper than semi. If you've been using semi for sometimes, maybe downgrading to mineral will have more noticeable effect like more vibration etc but otherwise, only miniscule improvement. Its more important to choose a good mineral lube than use a lousy semi.

Using FS is a totally different story as its based mineral stock is highly refined lube that is different grade from mineral and semi. Thus much less contaminant in original lube.

I doubt Proton will make XTR1 and magcrap compulsory. SC is bluffing as XTR and magcrap WILL ALWAYS be optional item as it is NOT a basic need of the car like lube, etc. Do not, officially, almost all established lube company DISCOURAGE usage of addictive such as XTR as it might interfere with lube existing addictive thus compulsory is really a mute point to argue.

Call We-Care straightaway if they INSIST next time and let SC speak with them directly.

Since 7.30am, my radio CD tray exit motor jam and won't stop running even after switch off engine. Super hot now, don't know can tahan until 12pm (half day leave) before my new DIN 55 battery kong out.

Got to spend a few more hundred for a new HU unit. The remote control to steering cannot be reuse until I install another remote box that might cost be RM300~400 hundred (my accs shop no other option). I love using the steering remote button to control the HU but a remote that cost almost as much as HU....haiz....

Have try restart car and waited at 2 hours interval earlier, motor still runs.

So hit 12pm, packed up, log out from office, went to basement, enter car, its hot due to non-stop radio tray's motor running for 4.5 hours, luckily can still start car..... ..... ..........the motor stop, the moment I start car. CD started playing....problem solved.....at least until it re-occur again.

Postpone RM400 ~ RM 800 HU/Remote change, told my wife...again same response, "you see, buy proton some more lar"....well......

how significant is the difference between c-drive 2 and XM2?
thinking to choose one of it.
they say XM2 is more quiet. but how noticable is the sound difference?

Go COSE if want to claim for warranty.
hmm.gif I doubt that they can force us must use X1R and magnacrap.

QUOTE(Cavino @ Jun 27 2013, 09:16 AM)
I doubt Proton will make XTR1 and magcrap compulsory. SC is bluffing as XTR and magcrap WILL ALWAYS be optional item as it is NOT a basic need of the car like lube, etc. Do not, officially, almost all established lube company DISCOURAGE usage of addictive such as XTR as it might interfere with lube existing addictive thus compulsory is really a mute point to argue.

Call We-Care straightaway if they INSIST next time and let SC speak with them directly.

My rotor is probably warped, you guys may have noticed the loud braking noise from my new ceramic brake pad which should have been quiet.

Skimming costs RM80. I'm thinking to change the front pair of rotors. Any recommendation?

After u change brake pad,the sound appears after few days drive rite?
Wad is the optimum braking temp for d new brake pads? If u think changing rotors help and more worth than skimming then go ahead...but if after change rotors and after few days drive sound appears again..means brake pad material quality not tat good...not sure whether high braking temp brake pads is one of d causes of the noise or not... Need to ask davidke20 for further details..

If rotor uneven/warped, that's what skimming is for right?

I drive on MEX/SMART/Kesas everyday to work, once I get to cruising, it's easily 130km/h and above, then I'll have to brake to exit. Perhaps these high speed braking use up a lot of brake pad.

ckdenion, I heard you skimmed your rotor for RM60? Where is that?

If your disc rotor warped, the most significant thing will be brake pedal rejection. As you hit the brakes, your feet will feel numb/shakey from the force feedback from uneven rotor surface.

Distinctive screeching sound could be as follow:
  1. Uneven disc rotor - but you'll get to feel it with your feet. If your feet doesn't get any feedback from the pedal, which means it's not. Even if there's uneven, it should be totally negligible.
  2. Disc cover bent and hit your rotor. Refer picture below:
    user posted image
  3. If you have just recently changed to new pad, suddenly these type of distinctive screeching sound appear, it could be your rotor being grind off too much, left a sharp edge that causes brake pad grinding noise. Usually it takes a Genting hard driving to grind in your new pad, so it fit your rotor.
    user posted image
  4. The new brake pad working temperature sohigh

I usually stick to BOSCH pads, street use spec, many dust but does very little harm to rotor. Performance, just barely suffice my usual short spiritual driving. My brake pads usually lasted me atleast 30k km, unless I go Genting often. If I go track"ing", will hook up a pair of local made MINTYE pads, it's cheap, noisy but reasonable braking performance street use pad.

On wheel brake rotor skim usually RM35/side. Off wheel skim usually RM50/side. On wheel skimming will have better accuracy since bearing movement is included. Off wheel skimming will have maximum flat surface, absolutely glass effect after skim. CK case could be discounted price. If figured the brake rotor bent too much, might as well change to a new unit. Funker Choy is selling his racing rotor away I heard whistling.gif Can fit Persona/Gen2.

I can feel the vibration on my brake pedal. I believe it's not scratched surface but warped rotors. Thanks David for the info.

Minthye too much asbestors, compound too hard alas the screeching sound despite not hitting the brake pedal. It is very normal geh. Again like I said, it's cheap and powderful pads they produce, and using it consecutively, your rotor will be gone sooner.

Not sure about Persona ones, but my Waja i changed to stock TRW discs from spare part shop RM150-160 if i remember correctly. Honestly saying, if new discs costs only RM80 more than skimming, I'd rather get new discs instead. And surprisingly as well, once the new discs beds in, the braking power is also higher when compared to the old disc.

Normally there are 2 source of leaking from them. The rubber surrounding the door loose or damage liao OR most likely the water proof plastic sheet inside the door got holes or not seal properly.

I would suggest to dismantle the door panel and change or reseal the plastic sheet that prevent water from seeping in thru the door ala windows gaps as a first measure to check if water comes from there.

i no follow booklet one wor, she just let me tick the stuff that needs to change only. (with campro 100k service reference)

Requested a new fuel cap because every time drive sure can smell fuel, now problem solved. RM47 for the cap.

Timing belt 80k changed already, cost me RM600 at outside with ATF oil.

Thanks bro, i done checking same as ur instruction last few days. icon_rolleyes.gif
water get in through at the front door rubber.

just serviced car yesterday using caltex fully.
previously using rock oil fully.
So, I swear that the engine sound is much less using caltex.
less vibration, and smoother engine. thats what I get. This is the second or third time I using caltex fully edi. result is more significant if you are switching from other engine oil.
Although it is API SM lube lah.
Coz only caltex only semi got the latest API SN.

i can say that the engine while idling is like new car.
the car mileage is edi more than 100k km.
