Seem like my question is not interesting....

It's not that. Apparently the one that can give you a good answer (g750 owners/sellers) didn't turn up.

Hi guys.

I am mostly on travelling this day so need a laptop for HD (or 4k in the future) photo&video-editing and heavy gaming purpose
(Doom, I am waiting for you)

Right now, on my right hand side I have ASUS ROG G750JZ and ASUS ROG G750JM

while on my left hand side we have GT70 DOMINATOR DRAGON EDITION, GT70 DOMINATOR PRO DRAGON EDITION, GT60 2PE DOMINATOR 3K EDITION and GT70 2PE DOMINATOR PRO

Throw in some questions:
1) To SSD or not?
2) Is Bluray-drive an overkill?
3) Should I bump the RAM to 32GB?
*
for performance/price ratio, i suggest you go for asus g750jz.

as for the questions:
1. ssd is a must. with the laptop you should be able to set up os drive with ssd, and data storage with hdd.
2. just ask yourself: do you own a lot of bluray discs and use them regularly? to me odd has to go.
3. you should. at least it's there for your work purposes. ram is always not an overkill if you use it for system optimizations.

How about ASUS ROG G750JH?
Is it still available on the market now?
If so, what is the current selling price?

The reason is I did some search on Comparison between Nvidia Geforce 780M and Geforce GTX880M and 780M is still currently the most powerful mobile GPU.
*
unfortunately jh is not available locally. actually the main score is the same, and the sub score difference is really negligible.

Dang... sad.gif
Budget wise, I might go for Asus G750JZ for its prive and value ratio.
Snapped this while browsing the latest Asus catalog today
user posted image

Few things to consider:
1) 32 RAM is a must for me cause I do panorama photos and stiching those high pixels photos could stress up the machine. Plus, more RAM equals speedy  gaming loading time (most cases)
2) Might get a 128GB SSD for, again, photo-editing purposes. Plus it does speed up the whole process given its value.

I still think internal Blu-Ray RW drive is a bit overkill. External hard disk is dirt cheap this day... brows.gif

A good read about ASUS deathmatching MSI  smile.gif

Though, MSI has Steelseries keyboard which makes typing fun.  hmm.gif

imo specifications alone do not count. no matter how powerful the components in your laptop are, a laptop is still a laptop. there are physical limitations here and there to cater for portability. for cpu, i think i7 4700hq is good because higher end cpu's tend to generate more heat. one of the side effects is cpu throttling. it's a terrible experience.

1. yeah i think you need more ram. for gaming, the key is still the gpu.
2. if possible, get 240gb range or more. 120gb range might be too small for you. today's games are no joke.

i think asus's chiclet keyboard is not so bad.

Guys, i have G750JX here, can i use this ram?
Corsair Ram Notebook DDR3L VENGEANCE 2X 8GB
Speed 1866
voltage 1.35v
CL  9

I wanna boost it to the end. I've installed 2X samsung 840 evo 512GB SSD, now with 1866 ram. what else can i do?
*
that cv ram should work if you're doing full swap. (meaning take out stock ram and put in just the new pair) if you are doing 2x4gb stock + 2x8gb cv (mixed ram), there might be a problem. (either downclocking to lower clock or no POST at all. this observation was based on previous g55/g75. the max was 2x8gb for 1866) tbh, i suggest you stick to 1600 because higher clock ram doesn't really help boost the system significantly.

the only good upgrade is ssd. ideally you should put in enthusiast ssd's like sammy's 840pro/850pro instead of 840evo. i don't know but after working with my 2x evo 500gb for some times, i find them not really smooth. there some minor hiccups when accessing apps/files. (it's minor, but you don't feel that when performance drives are used)

if you can have more ram, setting up ramdisk and primocache help to provide much better responsiveness also.

How about Kingston Hyper X? any suggestion?
*
in general any decent 2.5" sata ssd released since 1 year ago should work fine. i never used kingston drives before. my favorites are ssd's from samsung, plextor, crucial and intel.

RAM or SSD?
*
the performance of ram at the same range is kind of the same in real world usage.

QUOTE(jasonsuna1 @ Aug 6 2014, 10:05 AM)
Both, i've one SSD Kingston hyper x. I've diagnosed it and it never reach 555mbs R/W.  only around 450Mbs~
*
different apps show different outcomes. atto might be able to show you that it's 555MB/s.

And those higher end 1866 ram stick are recommend to be pair with those higher end processor like i7-4900. It will not impact much on i7-4700.
*
the reason why i said the above is because my current desktop is using 4x8gb 2400 ram (4790k). my aurora has the same amount of 1600 ram (4820k). from my experience, i feel no significant difference (but most likely it could be due to my usage also lol!)

Around RM3999 to RM4199, Please make sure you receive bundle ASUS ROG Headset and Mouse when you purchase! I noticed many fxxker seller steal the accessories when selling the notebook.

FACTS:
MANY MANUFACTURES LIKE HP, ASUS DID PROVIDE AN VERY GOOD CUSTOMER CARE WITH QUALITY GIFT FOR CUSTOMERS SUCH AS STEEL SERIES HEADSET , ROG MOUSE, AND SMALL GIFT BY HP WHEN YOU PURCHASE PRINTER. AND MANY MORE! BUT, CUSTOMERS KNOW NOTHING! ITS KNOWN AS LEGAL SCAM.

BUT! MANY AXXHOLE DID NOT GIVE YOU OR PROVIDE WHEN YOU PURCHASE THEIR PRODUCT! WHY? THEY SELL IT SEPARATELY LAH! CAN EARN EXTRA RM300 ABOVE FOR ROG ACCESSORIES! or they keep it for them self

AND WHY SOME xhole SELLER SELL THEIR OEM PRODUCT CHEAP CHEAP?
1. IMPORT SET, KNOWN AS AP, WITH NO WARRANTY BUT THEY LIED TO YOU! ( you can check how cheap it can be when u buy at taobao)
2. DISPLAY OR DEMO SET, PROBABLY THEY HAD PLAYED BATTLEFIELD 4.
3. REFURBISHED PRODUCT. (look new, but shxts happens)
4. DEALER PRICE? HELL NO, THEY NEED TO FEED THEIR STOMACH TOO. (dealer price only apply to those with constant contract, or bulk order)

SUPPORT OEM, MALAYSIA. AND BE SMART

*
yeah i think only a few of them sellers really give the full sets. on the other hand, this kind of weird culture is not without reasons. another fact is that many consumers are actually asking for damn cheap price and to them it's like no cheap no buy. perhaps that's the main reason why these sellers are selling laptop-only option, which are normally cheaper than normal price tags, to meet demands of buyers, while they get to keep and resell goodies. (you're so right about these sellers have to feed their stomach too. no sales means no food. hence they came out with this 'bright' idea :/)

to buyers, it's actually relatively cheaper to get the full set. (unless you have all those accessories already) after-market stuff usually cost you more.

QUOTE(jasonsuna1 @ Aug 16 2014, 11:38 AM)
I fked one pc computer shop (name hidden to protect particular business reputation) , when my friend purchased an G750JH, they refused and denied the bundle gift until I fked them up only they go and check this and check that and finally hand the bundle gift awkwardly to us.

Funny right? If you want it, buy one. not steal.
*
right. if you paid the price that matches those listed in official catalogues, the sellers shouldn't keep the goodies :/

yeah the ULV CPU... doesn't bring much battery saving... maybe its due to the GTX GPU taking much more power.

let's hope things will change at later time. if it doesn't i might not get any g-series anytime soon.

My Bad. G56JR runs on i5-4200H not i5-4200U. Darn Intel naming senses. It can get confusing.
They did single hatch maintenance in G550 which is good news. And there's G551(G550 refresh) which will feature GTX 860M.

Upcoming G-series lineup would be G551 and GX500.
*
i5.. i hope it's not like ultrabooks.

although i use it for common usage and office work only, i can feel the sluggishness of my xps with i7 4702hq already :/ (i have tried optimize the system for a bit but it is still not as good as i want it to. it's running with 16gb of ram, 2x ssd, with ram-based caching via primocache)

oh ok smile.gif imo we still need a few years to see powerhouse laptops with such slim form factors, with good cooling.
