Hopefully everything went well, my laptop wont torture by them  sweat.gif

well, good luck!

as a prevention, you might wanna take the photos of the laptop (whatever you can think of; side view, front view, top view, rear view, etc.) it's especially important to take notes on where the grills are exposed (rear view, vents, etc.)

this way you can check it out for external anomalies later.

beware for new haswell machines: the voltage of the ram is now 1.35v. ram that need 1.5v (common ones that can be found in the local market) are very likely to cause troubles later (over heating, damage to the cpu integrated memory controller (due to the increased potential difference), and increased battery use).

damn.. it's in the specs of the cpu :/

ic ... so thats what they are expecting.. no wonder our ram price naik smile.gif .. well its always a newer one that will cause the older ones at ridiculous price
*
the ram with 1.35v is kind of rare here :/

i can only see crucial and mushkin. the rest are of 1.5v. damn haswell.

sandy bridge users can now upgrade their rams to 32gb since the 1.5v is expected to drop  rclxms.gif
*
haha hope so smile.gif but with the recent lack of supply of ram chips, it might not be happening.

QUOTE(holloway @ Jun 23 2013, 05:13 AM)
yeah of course smile.gif it's still rare now.. it will soon be everywhere~.. probably DDR3 revision? lol
expected to drop? when? i thought sandy bridge is very similar to ivy bridge? hmm
*
yeah sandy b**** and ivy b**** can still profit from the high-power ram.

happy.gif yep yep.. of course they will still profit smile.gif although i think that they can use lower power ram also.. izzit?
*
yes sure. however, i still prefer high power ram, because they should be more efficient in terms of performance.

*
yeah learn from @holloway. disassembling a g55 is simple.

i'm still waiting for my 7260 .ac wifi card (should reach here this Friday). whether it's working or not i will share the information here.

quick question here.. I want to upgrade my g55's ram from 4gb to 8gb.. anyway I can do it without voiding the warranty? taking out the double 2gb rams installed voids it right?
*
you have 4 ram slots in a g55 with i7 cpu. you can do it without voiding warranty smile.gif

.. and it's not 2x2gb; it's a single 4gb ram under your keyboard. so you still have 3 empty slots.

really? cool... I thought they did it with double 2 gb's.. then another question.. what ram do you recommend?
*
locally, the matching one that i know of is kingston (timing is 11-11-11-28; 1.5v). you can do 3x4gb kingston to get 16gb.

I got a Asus G55, I thinking of changing the harddisk to SSD. The brand I'm looking at is Crucial M500 480GB. Is it good enough? The reason i choose it is because I can buy it from the crucial online store.
*
in general a decent consumer grade ssd will do much better than a hdd.

since you're looking at this particular ssd only, it's better you ask in the ssd thread instead. there should be someone who have first hand experience on this one; or you can also google for reviews about m500 by other people.

as for online purchase, why is that you can only get it from crucial online store? have you checked out the garage sales section? getting a local set is better than getting it elsewhere (unless locally they charge you for a few hundred bucks more); local warranty normally is cheaper.

my preferences are still samsung and plextor.

haha, jz my thought. Since we r in mobile computing thread, it makes me think that way tongue.gif

BTW, if you play waterblock in your rig  brows.gif , separate GPU to another chassis definitely is a bad idea.
*
oh.. imo for the sake of discussions let's us do not limit ourselves to the keywords, 'mobile computing' only. if i really needed to stick to those topics to the letters, i really have nothing to discuss already (as of now, high mobility means low performance, relatively; there is not much to discuss lol!). i might as well go else where biggrin.gif

i just think that it's a nice idea that an external gpu can be used to replace our aging gpu. with this accessory, we don't need to worry about whether the gpu on our laptop is of custom form factor or soldered, and we can just get one and use it for all sorts of low-powered laptops.

if i have a desktop rig, eGPU is pointless biggrin.gif pci-e is much better lol!
